The funniest thing currently is suddenly seeing the Left wing media buddy up with the Kochs… just because they want Trump to fail. I could remember a mere two or three years ago that the Kochs were their favorite whipping boys. And now they apparently think the Kochs actually care about overseas workers (or employing immigrants out of the goodness of their hearts). This is like "befriending" a dragon (two dragons, rather) to deal with that wily snake in your garden. edit: Probably calling them left wing is a misnomer. They're just superficially so.. and this proves it.

edit:

I'm not well versed enough to make a proper critique of Free Market capitalism, but I understand the revolt against it.. It's not like it doesn't have some serious downsides. And so far, it doesn't seem like Trump's protectionism isn't quite as disastrous as has been warned. Perhaps it will fail, but it's suspect that it isn't given much of a chance... going on 200 years now (perhaps longer?). It's not like this hurts in some blanket sort of way anyhow. Trump just puts emphasis more on unilateral dealing.

You're talking about capitalism or protectionism? Either way it's longer than 200 years, way longer than that.

No, Free Market capitalism (as opposed to Protectionism..which seems more from the Feudal world. While Free Markets is post- Adam Smith Europe/America). So that's probably 200 years.. more if we're counting directly from Adam Smith (but I figured he didn't get to be as popular until later. Heh).

Nope, just profits and tariffs don't beget profits.

The former is a type of market where the latter is a government behavior influencing the former. There's always varying degrees of protectionism happening (e.g. Chicken Tax that's been around forever), Trump just turned the dial up to 11 after decades of it being at 2.

The tariffs mostly focus on steel and aluminum. Obviously that impacts computer cases.

It would seem necessary to turn it up at least, just to offset China's behavior. Then you go back later (possibly).

I have to say though his latest tweets are winning me over. He's turning off both his own party along with everyone else. But this is for the right reason imo.

I think it's obvious that Trump was impacted by his visits to the Rust Belt. He really went to bat for the people that used to have good jobs there. These are blue collar Democrats that got him elected.

Trump was always opposed to Koch. Koch brothers pumped money into Republican moderates like Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, and Jeb Bush (candidates that would largely maintain the status quo). Trump easily defeated them all proving money can't buy elections (Koch Brothers spent almost $900 million in the 2016 election cycle).

Steel and aluminum tariffs kicked off what we're seeing today. For good or ill, he took up and championed that Rust Belt cause. Of course it is to the detriment of blue collar workers that it displaced (especially China, Japan, and Germany).

.

I knew that somewhat indirectly. It's just interesting to see a direct rift now. This is really a big shakeup in Republican politics. And before sounding one-sided, the Left wing needs that too. They've succumbed to globalism all the same... it was Clinton who first set that in motion. Now the Democrats can't get out of that thinking. I would have thought they'd been the first ones to dig themselves out post-2008, but strangely, it's not.

After you've been eating froot loops for god knows how long, a little variety helps.

Another reason most people shouldn't be unhappy with this news about Taiwan getting more jobs/economy.

I'm scared to click mysterious jpegs that say "oatmeal".

It's a wild coincidence in this case, I didn't thought about that at all or even hint at it, I simply didn't want to post the whole picture inline, just the link, but in order to get rid of the gibberish url (I don't have paid imgur account to make custom URLs, if that feature even exists) so I just named it like that my self, but it really is about oatmeal.
