TechPowerUp Staff Opening: News Editor

Is the job mainly focused on covering new hardware releases or more general? Currently my main interest is tech sovereignty. In my view you should be able to do what you want with the software and hardware you own.

While Linux already has good, dedicated news channels, the same can't be said for mobile operating systems. Even the major alternatives LineageOS, GrapheneOS and CalyxOS are virtually unknown.
On the hardware side I would cover RISC-V and Right to Repair.
Honestly, even if you and TPU worked out only a limited, tertiary position, I’d love to see/read them to whatever volume you can sustain && the site feels appropriate.

They are unknown for a reason. Or for many reasons, to be precise.

No matter who will be accepted for position of publisher must start with a news for RTX 4090 Ti Mastodon whit this full 4(or 4+?) slots cooler:

The focus of TPU is elsewhere but some people here maintain long, informative forum threads about related topics such as GPU BIOS flashing or PC audio or reuse of old hardware. So I suggest you to start writing in forums first and see what sort of feedback you get, it might turn out to be very positive.

It "just works" from everywhere in China, I've tested it personally while travelling. Unless there's some corp firewall of course that blocks it because it falls in the category "media, entertainment", just like in the West
Hi,
Must be all those China godeal24 adverts ;)

We allowed to supplement our sample articles and application for the position leveraging ChatGPT enhancements and embellishments?

This is my plan... I am interested in this beast anyway I'd be happy to scour the Internet for info on it.

Turns out TPU is inaccessible for certain ISP for whatever reason. Specifically home broadband with China Mobile

Btw, I'm happy to volunteer to translate Chinese sources if you guys need it.

@Sunlight91 if you’re serious about this, strongly consider the above. Good forum contributions could lead to front page contributions.

Really enjoyed the brief stint I did, but alas life got in the way with a kid and already full time job, good luck finding quality staff!
Same. Good luck w1zzard, too busy to offer my help again, but had a blast while it lasted.

Only if you want to be laughed at.

I'd apply but unfortunately I'm biased against everyone. There is no innovation in the market and everything [and everyone] sucks.
no u.

Can you run a traceroute? Any error message?

Does editor pick news on his own or is he pointed what to tackle?
Almost always you'll find and report your own news from any source you like and that's reasonably reliable

But yes, this is more about passion for tech and writing than making an easy buck
Yup, I remember that from my time doing this - more than a decade ago now, how time flies! I have to admit that I did like writing for a big tech website and then seeing the comments below the article along with all the likes. I write the occasional article on my own website nowadays, about anything and everything, and I still enjoy it. Obviously, I don't get paid for it lol. Hope you get someone decent. :)

In the past we had a fixed per month pay, which led to increasingly lower output from people over time, so this time I feel like I want to go more performance focused. Bonuses related to views is a good idea indeed
I'd add to that a fixed fee for each article too, not too much. That will definitely help to motivate a writer to add content.

I was thinking something like $300 for the post with the most views in a month, maybe another $300 for most social shares or replies .. but your suggestion got me thinking .. each news post that's getting marked as "updated" will count as one more post, which will help people update their posts, and push them back up

$300 bonus isn't bad.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by updated news posts.

Rumours/leaks which later are confirmed or denied by an official statement of the company concerned or changed because of newest rumours/leaks? Wccfkek style:)

Would that favour posts about AMD and Nvidia? You might inadvertently steer TPU towards populist, rather than informative news. In fact as I typed that, I realised how bad that could be.

I am well aware, always happy to try new things

Just don't let journalism's standard rules suffer in the process and I see no issue with experimentation. It's so easy to get lax there in the name of clicks (not picking on you, it's happening everywhere).

Not bad at all…is that dollars or euro’s?

If English was my native language I would definitely be interested.
