sadly, its coming sooner than later, ...
with all the smart phones and hand held tablets getting smarter and smarter with more and more uses from social media to simple/mid level gaming, all the way over to home security and other real world applications.
Not to mention the fact that really good computer games are becoming more and more rare (it seems to me anyways).
I am not sure I will build another pc after this one dies in a few years give or take.
I have not needed to use my cd/dvd/blue ray driver in nearly a year now, in fact, its not even installed in my rig. There is no reason for me to put it back in, if i need to buy any programs or watch any movies, i simply download it.
I guess I would welcome this death if......the raw power is on the other side of the fence. So until somebody tosses me a 24" 4k+ tablet for less than two grand that has the power to not only blow the doors off the latest console ports in performance and specs, but also gives me that flexibility I need that a PC offers, such as video and photo editing software, net surfing with whatever browser i choose and the ability to change OS at any time without penalty.....I will be saving up for that headstone for when the time comes to bury my pc six feet deep.
