the survey is flawed imo, they should just send it to all steam users. it literally takes 5 seconds. its w.e i dont care anymore
Yup, in 10 years, incidentally only AMD Gpus the last 10 years, have not had one single survey o_O
Would not go full conspiracy theory, but as you say, if they would push this on all clients .... probably would be the easiest way to estimate how many where produced by both Nvidia and AMD and how many got in the hands of gamers.
I love my 6800XT, wish all could have one

there is no reason NOT to give the survey to all steam users... its the 21st century people not snail mail... haha

The problem with Steam is you can have your account tied to all of your PCs. I wonder which one it picks to determine your position?

I was wondering if anybody else got their hand on a 6000 series Gpu, looking at the Steam hardware survey one would think nobody has any 6000 Gpu's, which is weird since I know at least 6 people who got their hand on one of the 6000 models, not including the venerable members of this thread :)
I have not played any steam game in last months since I have got 6800XT.
So mine will not be listed there anyways.

I got a particular issue with my 6800xt.

I found that when playing games, core speed drops a lot and causes stuttering. I'll play let's say Witcher 3 and the GPU usage will randomly drop to 60% and the core speed drops to 500mhz, then shoots back up. It does this very regularly.

never happened to me and I have played witcher 3 with my 6800 non-xt many times.

try exclusive fullscreen mode or borderless window back and forth. i have heard that game has weird issues sometimes with settings

setting a minimal frequency in Wattman (2000mhz for starters) might help, this happens with old titles, even though W3 is by no means that old :)

I'll give that a try. I looked on Reddit and had plenty of people with same issues. It isn't really just Witcher 3 either. It's RE2 or 3 remake, Rage 2, etc. Only game it ran at full use was Tropical 6.

I was also told to use profile manager for all my games. Wow.

I cant tell how you installed the drivers, so will not make assumptions, but generally its always best before installing a driver to make sure any old one is completely removed (DDU in safe mode is good at that).
The only game that had the issue you described was Gothic 3, but that's really old, and I "fixed it" with having my main profile at 2.5ghz minimum (OC-ed to 2.7Ghz), so basically have the minimum frequency 100-200Mhz below the max, and I am speaking of a general profile, you also can make game specific profiles, but that's a waste of time in my opinion :)

something like the below

Way ahead of you regarding drivers. Been doing this for over 20 years. Still gets me that there isn't anything built in and have to rely on DDU.

But I'll give a try to min clock speeds. Hopefully that helps.

Thanks brother.

Just thought of another possible issue that would create these type of problems, but not sure if it can be applied to you, there where cases of Windows power management being overzealous in clocking down the PCI-E lanes which caused GPU slowdowns, switching to a highest Performance power plan or equivalent (and making sure the sub settings in that profile do not allow power saving for PCI-E - Link state power management) could also be worth trying, assuming you don't run it at highest already, in that case min frequency should "fix" it :)

I'll also check. I can't remember if I enabled It or not.

It's just sad I see so many others online at amd site and Reddit with same issue as me. Figured AMD would have fixed their driver issues by now. No issue if this issue on my 3070.

Its always bad when you get a new piece of hardware and it does not perform how it should. What I can say for me personally, the drivers with the 6800XT have been the most trouble-free drivers ever, rock solid with very minor exceptions. But there are so many possible combinations of hardware and software settings, sometimes you end up on the trouble side of things. Another thing you could do is report the issue to AMD via the AMD bug report tool I think its called, should be inside wattman. I reported one minor bug, the OSD metrics sometime not remembering their custom settings and resetting to default settings, and next driver that was in the fixed list, I was like damn, I could not find anybody else having that issue on the internet

Same issue
Read most of it, there can be a lot of potential issues, CPU overheating and clocking down massively which would starve the GPU (I would check CPU temps while gaming, if it gets way hot, that would be your issue and solution aswell), RAM errors, power supply issues, even a faulty GPU, or even driver related, but since these issues only appear for a small amount of people my guess would be a bottleneck somewhere in the system, and that can come in many forms and flavors. Worked for 10 years in hardware troubleshooting, have seen a loooot of issues over time that are cause by hardware problems and could be solved relatively easy. (funny enough, CPU overheating was a recurring thing  )

Anyways, I hope you find a solution, these GPUs are soo good when working properly :)

In shadow of the tomb Raider and some other titles it's running at full speed and no issue at all. It is a solid performer. It's just picky.

Will play around with it this weekend.

Update: So Felix, I took your suggestion and moved the performance sliders around:
amd_modified.png

Anyway, low and behold, it more or less fixed my issue. I know that playing games at 1080p on a card that is meant for high 1440p to mid 4K isnt stressing the card at all and preventing it from being used at full potential, but this power save is nonsense and caused pretty much all my stuttering. Seems good now. Will make adjustments to performance later as I heard that these 6800xt's are solid overclockers giving it pretty much on par performance with 6900xt's.

Nice, glad you managed to fix it, always a shame to get new hardware that does not work as expected, especially such illusive items in this day and age like a GPU..
And yeah, the 6800XT's are mostly great OC-ers, that is if you manage to keep them cool while overclocking (power mods help a lot, but more power, more heat), I myself managed to get it to something like 2.5 on the stock reference cooler, and now at 2.7 with a waterblock on it, and yup yup, its basically a bit better than a stock 6900XT-ish. One thing I can say about performance, first I had it with my old 3800X, then moved to a 5800X, the jump in overall GPU perf was greater than expected, it was sweet with the 3800X, became something else with the 5800X :)
Also, AMD should know better, the boost should be on for every resolution no matter how much the GPU is actually used, its better with this series, the Vega64 I had before had even more issues boosting high in very low demand games... at least with the 6000 series, if you put in a minima frequency, its actually applied :D

This Gigabyte OC card doesn't run very hot at all. Actually, I believe it uses its windforce based fans and those are apparently pretty premium. And a good aluminum backplate.

So I hope to get a decent OC out of it. The case I use is actually the MSI MPG 110M and I got 3 InWin Saturn fans in the front, those things push like 70CFM so temps are good. So if I can get a decent OC, I will be sitting gold with this card for a long time. Maybe find an AIO that will work for it (I Dont care to go full water cooling setup).

Not bad :D

RX 6800 XT Midnight Black
For us it does not make difference if it is black cooler or silver, we would have turned ours anyway to water cooling.
We will have black cooler sitting in the closet rather than a silver one. :D

I thought I may get it this new card that you mention from AMD. I was at AMD website at launch time and even before I can put it into basket it was gone.

My current 6800XT is dying :twitch: with the ESD shock that it received last week.
It has bad stutter now. I think eventually it will completely die.
I was thinking to put original cooler on it and send it for repair. No chance for that as warranty void sticker is obviously missing as I had it under water cooler. :(
That is the risk one takes when one converts his GPU to water cooling that warranty would be void and if for some reason the card need to be returned then you are screwed.

Good that in USA now these sticker are not valid anymore.
In Germany they are still valid and seller told me I can keep the card no luck with warranty when sticker is not there and cooler was removed by me.

As no luck with repair and I need a new GPU. I ordered a new 6800XT Red Devil from Mindfactory.
Hopefully I will get it until next week.
It was supposed to arrive this week but the DHL idiots screwed up claiming my address does not exist and returned the card back to Mindfactory without trying second time to deliver it. :banghead:
Mindfactory will send it again to me ones it is back at their place.
Sometime one has a very shitty week I have to say. :fear:

@turbogear , Oh man, that's so messed up! Hope you get the replacement card asap. The warranty sticker thing does apply to me in my neck of the woods, temper with the stickers and you void the warranty. That's one of the reasons why I'd gotten a Nitro+ RX 6800, which was replaced by the Nitro+ RX 6900 XT.

Would have loved to try out an LC'ed RX 6800XT/6900XT but the warranty issue was the deciding factor....that, and my lack of confidence with regards to application of the thermal pads (not sure of thickness and size) and the overall uncertainty I feel with LC. Guess I'm too old skool, besides, I'm something of an old fart, and I sorta personify the old saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" .:shadedshu:
