I just recently upgraded my iPhone 11 Pro Max to a 16 Pro Max and after weeks of bone chilling cold, it finally warmed up a bit and the birdies came back for a little bit. I was hoping to get a picture of the same bird on the same branch to do a comparison between the phone and the camera, but this is the best I could do. Pretty big improvement for a phone, but the RP looks better, hands down.

I was actually pleasantly surprised at how well the iPhone 16 Pro Max captures a sunset. This isn’t even in 48MP mode. Granted, Apple does a lot of post processing.

Smartphone's are great these days for pics, but they inject too much inference. I'll use AI to de-noise high ISO pics, but I don't necessarily like the hidden magic Android and Apple phones use to make things 'zingy.'

Here's my EOS R8, 35mm lens. Just a shot of my keyboard (getting old now). It was far lighter in the room, but I like the darkness the shutter speed and low ISO give.

I like this image, would make a cool wallpaper. I've found I don't worry too much in pushing ISO to the limits - even 25600 in some cases (usually push no further than 16000 if I don't have the light), because Adobe's LR noise reduction does an amazing job at producing a clean sharp de-noise'ed output.

Ah, that's full-frame 18mm. Not easy to go wider than that. I think my widest is Tokina 17-35. Wider than that, they're either bulbs (no filters) or fisheye :(

Must be a special feeling, living in Chicago, looking at the Sears Tower. Not entirely pleasant, perhaps, but special.

I was in Boston the other day and saw 1 Financial Center all lit up. Had to use my phone as I was in the car stopped at a red light coming out of the I-93 tunnel.

The most difficult lighting you could get...
I need a shed in the garden, something like that would do, I figure.

I’m going to the DR next week. Hopefully I’ll be able to capture some tropical birds while I’m there.
Now that I think about this, I'm curious what everyone brings with them when they travel. I have a backpack for my laptop and camera that I'll use that holds a small kit pretty well.

I have a small kit anyways, so I'll bring everything with me:
Canon EOS RP
Canon RF 24-105mm ƒ4 L IS USM
Canon RF 100-400mm ƒ5.6-8 IS USM
Canon RF 50mm ƒ1.8 STM

For those of you with larger kits, what do you choose to bring with you and why? The only part of my kit that I probably could do without is the 50mm prime because the other two lenses cover 24-400mm and the quality of the 24-105 is pretty darn good despite being an ƒ4. The only reason I bring the 50mm with me is because it's super tiny and is a bright ƒ1.8 lens, which is nice if I'm capturing stars or something like that, which isn't all that often when I'm traveling. Maybe the Caribbean night sky will be worth whipping it out?

It's like you're my evil twin:
Nikon D750
Nikon 24-120 f/4
Nikon 70-300 f/4.5-5.6
Nikon 35 f/1.8
Tokina 17-35 f/4

Like you, the 50mm can get left behind (when travelling, you generally want the background, too). The tripod may or may not join me. The polarizing filters and flash join me all the time. And I have one fo those WB filters, but the camera is so good at auto WB, I can't remember when I used it last time.

First shots from the DR. First was with the 24-105 @ f10, the second is the first bird with the 100-400 since I arrived. Now time to get a mojito.

@Aquinus Is that one of those birds that race with the waves to find food in the sand (never knew what they're called)?

Not entirely sure. They remind me of Terns or Plovers. Got a sunset though. This was my favorite of the bunch. No edits, straight from the camera.

Sunsets are tricky. They're actually bland when there are no clouds (plus, you get a few minutes to take the shot, so your tripod better be in place ahead of time). You need a lot of clouds to get one of those shots that awe everyone. Look for a cloudier day, come back to this spot and take the shot again. It will look way better.
