Is it common for UK people to not really understand what a taco should taste like? My friend made tacos tonight and it tasted like sloppy joe, which as an American, we eat that on a bun not in a taco. lol

Inside joke:

Next time your friend cooks it again. Ask if there's any horsemeat in it.

(Otherwise, I think thats just your friends sloppy joe recipe)

To be fair, most Americans have no idea either.

If you need an example look at Taco Bell.

What, did someone say snow? Yep had some fall yesterday, but melted on contact with ground then changed to rain, then probably felt like UK as it rained for 24 hrs + non-stop :(

Everything is soggy and water logged.........

Haha, it rains always in UK? :D
Not just that, but the weather is massively unpredictable here. It might look nice and sunny at the moment, but that doesn't mean it won't rain 5 minutes later, or vice versa. If this doesn't kill your mood, then the constant cloud coverage and general greyness nearly all year round will.

I did roughly 10 years ago. Half year darkness, half year sunshine, combined with cinnamon rolls and an endless supply of coffee. Glorious! :D

The missus would kill me if we didn't have Chinese together in bed every Friday night. It's become sort of a weekend ceremony for us through the years.

Edit: I still enjoy cooking, though. :)

Don't get me wrong we still cook but not going to be bothered all the time and fancy somebody else cook something different for us lol.
I went without a takeaway for 1.5 years when I first moved out with my partner, then we just fell down the rabbit hole of wanting to indulge.

Some of my personal favourite from my own experience of working in one for my parents and then having the one local to me:
Fried rice - Either special if you want mixed meat or pick a specific one you fancy + sweetcorn, my parents had sweetcorns by default but my local doesn't so I ask them to include it for me
Chilli salt - Chicken or Beef(these are lightly battered) or Chips
Foo yong - Chinese omelette, probably one of the healthier options on the menu. It essentially retains the thickness + texture of a omelette but it gets scrambled into pieces
Singapore vermicelli noodles/fried rice - Chow mein is good but I much prefer it with fried rice or Vermicelli noodle
Sweet and sour chicken in battered balls or the small battered pieces with the sauce dipped on - This for me is hit and miss as the sweet and sour sauce can taste different, depending on the takeaway way of making it. My parents brew it from scratch made it superior to the one local to me by miles

Hot sour soup, pancake rolls (kind of like small vegetable spring rolls), and either char siu (Chinese roast pork) or king prawns in black bean sauce + egg fried rice. I also like a chow mein every now and then. The missus is crazy for Chinese BBQ ribs.

I'll tell you one thing, I'm never going back to Exeter. One of the worst days in the UK I have ever had. Crowded, buses packed so you have to stand up. One bus broke down and the sun was hitting me, so I was sweltering hot.

I'm not even sure I am going to ask immigration to extend my visa like I was planning to do, this place is just going downhill fast, no offense UK folks. There was a surprising amount of security patrol type people in Exeter today too, ffs this place just isn't peaceful and relaxing to me like it used to be. Costs are not as bad as people say they are though imo, food seems fairly the same price to me as it was in 2022 and in 2019 when I visited (thanks to Sainsbury's Nectar prices mainly). Housing prices are a bit insane though and all my friends here live paycheck to paycheck because of rental prices. I mean x amount of population, y amount of housing... the world is just so stupid with basic math I guess.

Anyways, yeah I am done with UK most likely, will be taking train to France, then the high speed train from Paris to Milan at some point. I just want to see a bit more of what this region of the world has to offer.

I have to say; your statements about the UK based on individual towns (or worse, individual visits) is pretty shallow. And when you say security patrol types, what do you mean? We have police, although not many on street patrol these days. There aren't any other 'private' security groups, other than those tasked with private shop security or specific security jobs for private companies (and they have no power).

As for your friends living pay check to pay check, that's what most folk do. People tend to live up to their income. It's the same across the world, at least in metropolitan (major city) areas.

Enjopy the rest of Europe, though.

To be completely fair, I mean Exeter specifically. Exeter was pleasant on my previous visits. It's just too overcrowded now. I will 100% feel the same way about Paris, London, probably Milan too. I just was not expecting Exeter to be a "mega" city now. It was a very unpleasant day. Moving forward I think I will stay in small towns on the outskirts of the Southhampton (I don't know proper way to spell this city) where some of my relatives live. Cities I am going to try to avoid moving forward, logistics of public transportation seem to have been miscalculated by this region because every single bus I saw going to my area was packed shoulder to shoulder, it was just very unpleasant. I never had this issue previously or in the Scandanavian countries I have visited, to be fair though, it's been a long time since I have been there, so maybe it's just as overcrowded now, I don't know.

It doesn't matter where in the world you go, all cities are an overcrowded, dirty mess full of thugs and homeless people. If you want some peace and quiet, go to the rural areas like I do when I'm on a holiday.

Housing prices are a bit insane
That I agree with. You could buy a villa in most countries for the same price that gets you a run-down one bedroom flat here. I've given up on ever owning a home here in the UK, to be honest.

I usually do go to nature oriented areas, I just wanted to try something different. To be honest, it's less about Exeter and more about I just am not happy traveling anymore. I did miss my friends and relatives here, but I just think I am not happy traveling anymore, it's too stressful. Another example, last week, the train from London to Exeter was another horrible experience. I literally had only spot left on the train, so I had to have my carry on between my legs (storage areas were full), and my backpack on top of my carry on pressed against my head for the first half of the train ride. It was literally the most miserable couple hours of my life, I was so squeezed. Enough people finally got off at various stops I was able to relax though eventually. They really should do assigned seating for all train spots, and not just leave it to a free for all.

My entire experience has just been unpleasant this time and I think it is wearing on me, I just want to go explore a few more places in the EU and then go home. Main reason I want to do EU a bit first, is because I am 99% certain I am never traveling again after this. Plane I was on had severe turbulence, and so on so forth. I'm just exhausted.

I also think for you native UK folk, this isn't an issue for you because you have cars. My friends don't have a car, they have never been able to afford one, mainly because most people are just bad with money and don't discipline themselves, no offense to my friends, I am well aware most people are this way. I can't live that way though.

It's not the UK / Exeter area then, but the fact that you're tired of travelling, it seems.

Cars are dirt cheap here. You can get a basic shitbox for £500-1000, and pay your insurance and road tax monthly until you save up for something better. You can also get a decent car loan provided your credit score is good enough, or lease a car for pocket money. Anybody with a full time job should be able to afford it, those who can't are really doing something wrong.

I guess, this is the main reason why public transport is so bad here.

I think public transport is bad in many big cities, people who live in the suburbs don't wanna drive into City Centres because it's manic and parking can be expensive (if you can find some) so everyone piles onto public transport, I mean Exeter is not even a big city really with a population of around 135k, whereas where I live buses are not crowded generally and they come pretty frequently.

Edit: I will be driving past Exeter on my way to Cornwall for a fishing trip tomorrow around 1.30pm, I will wave to Lynx as we go past :peace:
