console run on AMD hardware, so i guess it will not be NV exclusive (like Nvidia Uselesswork, errr Hairwork i mean )

nonetheless .... i still fail to see what real improvement RT bring
and no ... it's not because i have a RX 6700 XT, i tried it in CP2077 and other it run somehow fine enough but the improvement in reflection and lightning is ... not that huge
(hilarious? i played Morrowind recently ... and the reflection and lightning is/was way more impressive than what RT bought  even by todays standard )

also RT is not proprietary, technically.

Hairwork is a CPU workload. I don't think it ever was a CUDA thing like Phyx.

I know what you are saying. I have seen better lighting in older games too. Glad to know I am not alone, heh

yeah but it was Nvidia tech (hilarious that they gave the job to the CPU ... specially for a GPU company  )
PhysX being CUDA? hhhmmm yeah ... after buying Ageia ... maybe ... but software mode also still exist. (although unlike Hairwork it doesn't run like sh!t in software/CPU mode in absence of greenery in the rig  )

also RT is not proprietary, technically.

Imo its really game and implementation dependant, ever since I have a RTX card '2 months' I've been testing RT in various games that support it and while some are underwhelming some does look good enough for me to warrant the performance loss. 'luckily at my resolution RT is actually doable with DLSS Quality on top'

In Cyberpunk I like the RT lights and reflections but shadows are disabled cause those I can barely notice.
Especially at nights the RT neon and whatever light sources just make the game 'pop' more/feel more immersive to me so I keep it enabled at Ultra.

I do agree tho that some older and even newer games look just fine with no RT, Plague Tale Requiem will get an RT update too but I'm honestly not sure if thats needed considering how good the default lights and everything are in the game. 'That and its an already really demanding game so I can only imagine the performance hit'

I will check out this Witcher update since I have the game on GoG, finished the Goty edition game on a RX 570 with tweaked settings+HD texture mod from Nexus some years ago so I'm curious how big the difference will be. 'I do plan a second playthrough just not anytime soon, way too time consuming'

I had forgoten about his. Finished the main story twice but only once played Blood And Wine. This winter is going to be a busy gaming time. All the better with GPU prices going down all over.

I played with RTGI enough that I found Plague Tale Requiem lightning to be very underwhelming, despite very good looking models and level of details, so I'm waiting for the RT patch to play the game.

Currently playing Days Gone and lightning looks bad too, so the more time you spend with RTGI and RT shadows/AO, the more you will notice the shortcoming of rasterized lightnings

Hairworks had an impact on the GPU too. HardOCP's articles are gone, but IIRC, the impact was least on a Vega 64 at around 10%; probably because it wasn't being utilized properly otherwise.

So true. I played them in the reverse order: 3 before 2. Witcher 2 is a shorter game so you should play that before 3.

they are also working on the new witcher trilogy, first game has the code named polaris

Yeah, although i love the original game engine ( Aurora ) which was all so used for the original NWN, and very modifiable.

If they use the UE i might not like it and only liked 3 games over the years that used it and only kept playing 2 them due to story and the other was UT the original one. I like my complex movement skills ( like original Flashpoint and Arma ) without doing silly little or complex combo's.

Yeah, although i love the original game engine ( Aurora ) which was all so used for the original NWN, and very modifiable.

If they use the UE i might not like it and only liked 3 games over the years that used it and only kept playing 2 them due to story and the other was UT the original one. I like my complex movement skills ( like original Flashpoint and Arma ) without doing silly little combo's.
UE5 is generally regarded highly although I have no experience of it yet, I am pretty sure the upcoming BioWare offerings like the 4th instalment of Dragon Age (Dreadwolf) and Mass Effect 4 will be using it, although how good it makes them remain to be seen.

I've tried some UE 5 tech demos and The First Descendant upcoming MMO's beta using a more basic UE 5 and so far it looked alright to me.
Its definitely not an easy to run engine when both Lumen and Nanite is used but it does look good imo and even that beta game utilized my hardware properly. 'as in all CPU threads and GPU maxed out'

Tho I will also wait till the first AAA UE 5 game is relased + we get game ready drivers and whatnot.

Personally most of the games I played in the past years were UE 3 or UE 4 since that was relased and I also have mixed experience with it but 5 looks promising so far. 'This even affected my GPU picks in the past years, how they handle UE cause my main games ran on it..'

Just when I made up my mind to clear the huge backlog of games that I've still yet to play... I guess it's a Witcher marathon again, then.

Edit: Or should I wait for the UE5 remake of The Witcher 1? Hard choice. :D

If you play the original W1 make sure it has the "COUGH" blood fix, i guess unfixed as they patched it out sadly as people complain about blood splatter.

Meh, cannot trust either company, they have some thing good and start thinking this other way is better even though they were hit games or not.

Will have to see.
