Thermaltake Technology today announced the world's first AMD Quad FX platform ready chassis series, Armor Extreme Edition and Kandalf Extreme Edition series. These two chassis series are co-developed by AMD and Thermaltake to support AMD's latest and technologically advanced AMD Quad FX platform. Thermaltake has worked with AMD during the development phase of this high-performance gaming chassis, which is reengineered specifically to support AMD Quad FX platform. All cases come with two 120mm and two 90mm ultra-quiet fans for maximum cooling. Complete details of Thermaltake's Kandalf series cases can be found here.

Way to go AMD... creat a processor(s) that put out so much frickin heat you need a special case just so they don't melt down. And we all know how "quiet" thermaltake stuff is. All this and you still get beat down by intel in the benchmarks.

Actually, I believe this is more of a mobo formfactor limitation.

With the memory controller on the CPU, DDR trace lengths are VERY picky. Get it wrong, GG you lose.

With a dual CPU mobo, its already a pain in the rear to get things right, and it only keeps growing.

Which is why AMD could/never would have adopted the now dead BTX.

Note: The case is E-ATX+atx

btw, way to assume heat is the reason there... way to be a knowitall without having any facts to back it up..

I have an Thermaltake amor case.... runs quite too me

Its ok, conroe fanbois love to assume things they don't have a clue about whenever they can.... They're secretly scared to death of the K9. (*cough* K8L *cough*)

bah

i like that they call it Kandalf. cause if they called it Gandalf im sure they would have to pay for the name. anyway...

Well its a good idea the came up with ..i recon its gonna get a little warm in there with 2 processors ,on my case i have one 25cm fan on the side. And it does help keep the temps down

As long as you have good airflow you shoulden't have to worry about Amd quad core heating up really, I think (just the noise it will make).

This is just the ultimate case for fanbois/it.. it will look pimp when those 2cpus are in there with some lights.. very sexy.

well looks like my 4x4 build is gonna be in the $5000+ range with these prices.

and for the record thermaltake makes some of the best stuff on the market price vs performance wize so stop hatein

wait, so is the 4x4 platform really just 2 separate dual core cpus? i thought it was a single cpu with 4 cores...

Kandalf isnt a new name to the TT family. Though I dont like the fact that Ive got to have a full tower case just to run K8L, this might finally be the move that moves me back to Intel for now. Though really, I dont forsee upgrading for at least another 18 months, so perhaps AMD will get their heads together by then.

By the way, from looking at this case, it doesnt look any different than a stock Armor/Kandalf other than the side panel. Those of you who already have one of these cases with the 25cm upgrade can stick with it from the looks of things.

This is not for the "K8L"

K8L is the next generation of K8 core..... This case is simply an E-ATX (Extended ATX) to accompany the fact that a slightly wider mobo is necessary for optimal placement in a dual, or quad CPU enviroment. (Dual/quad CPU, not CORE.)

True enough, I misread QuadFx to be as such. Even still, if Im gonna have to run two CPUs for quad core, right now, it'd be dual woodcrests instead of what AMD's got going. Maybe if they can get 65nm and this together, we'd have something to cheer for. But right now, Intel is top dog, though from what Ive seen of the Quad Conroe, not that impressive. We're back to waiting for software to catch up.

Intel actually made some great strides with their multi-CPU offerings, but its scaling is still restricted to the memory controller :(

Tho AMD's 4x4 stuff should be able to run in a single CPU config.. just isnt "4x4" its just "4" LOL

that would certainly be nice, instead having to have a server setup for quad core
