Thermaltake seems to have finished development of its new high-end CPU cooler, the Thermaltake Frio. Designs of this cooler surfaced as early as in June this year, originally slating it for Computex 2009. After some development delay, it has finally taken shape with the disctinct black+red color scheme the company's Level 10 case comes with. The design consists of a CPU contact block from which five seemingly 8 mm heatpipes arise, conveying heat to a dense aluminum fin array which has largely rectangular fins. The array is cooled a 120 mm fan. There is provision to install one on either sides, that rotates at speeds between 1200 - 2500 rpm. The cooler supports all current CPU sockets, including LGA-1366, LGA-1156, LGA-775, AM3/AM2+. The cooler is now slated for CES 2010.

Bravo Thermaltake. join the bandwagon!

Thermaltake sure like making things that look cheap !

If it's better then DB9, its a winner!

Heh, sorry but seems silly to say such a thing just from the picture.

Found a picture of it with no shrouds etc

Looks like they've made no effort to do anything fancy with the fins.

Looks like a Thermalfake CM V8. It's sad.

Thermaltake do seem to have been left in the dust of many companies over the years. I remember 7 / 8 years ago they were ahead of the curve but they seem to have not progressed much since those days.

Time to get a new design team Thermaltake and get some hot hot hot products together. :rockout:

What exactly was the "delay" in production? It's not like there is anything new or innovative here that would have caused any sort of design hurdles. Maybe there was a shortage of plastic.

Seems they dont have new ideas on the design side of things! just copying other companies stuff.

for those who dont know, Frio in spanish is Cold.

as for the cooler, if they took this long to make a so simple cooler... then its designers and engineers are monkeys

Well, to be honest, the design of the cooler is unimportant as long as it does it's job right. If it cools down the CPU better than any other solutions...

yea but its design is dam near identical to jsut bout every top of the line solution, only manufacturer that i see using diff ideas is Megahalems. or whoever makes em lol. N yea wth is with all the dam plastic on this bad boy? those fans go 10,000RPM or something n need more stability?

You guys trash Thermaltake for being unoriginal with this cooler. Before yall trashed them for being to "out there" with other designs like the SpinQ. I have an idea. Why don't we wait for a review before we trash them and not just hate them because they are Thermaltake?! Gasp!

I mean a few people have already said it. "This thing looks like all the other CPU coolers out there". Well maybe TT figured out how to build a better mouse trap.

True Dat... I mean dang... I wanted to stand out in the crowd so I bought a Thermaltake cooler...

You gotta admit, that does look real good... Same model I bought, just mine has the clips for i5/i7 setups, Uses screws, not clips/pushpins.
(not my system pic, cam broke so I am SOL on that mark)

The cooler looks great. Does it cool on pair with an TT 120-Ultra? btw, i love that radiator from the N. bridge (S. bridge?)

What mobo is that?

One of Gigabyte's P35 boards I believe.

Looks a lot like mine (but without the 2nd pci-e)

I imagine its only copper coated aluminium but I would love heatsinks that big on my board XD

I honestly dont see how that cooler resembles anything thats out right now. A V8 has like 3 different fin arrays with the fan IN THE MIDDLE. If anything the mega is a copy of the true as well as the heatsinks that sythe makes are almost all copies or some slightly redesigned Thermalright product. I mean seriously i made mention of this and got flamed and its pretty ridiculous. So it has plastic, so what? Its obviously making TT money for being flashy or else they still wouldnt be around wasting R&D money on hooey like this.

And im sorry but the first tower like heatsink was made by TT and its called the Silent Tower. So everybody is copying TT.

I think it looks great and looks like it will be a beast of a cooler. If something works and is a proven winner, why change it?

Besides that, you cant really change heatpipe tower coolers alot besides getting stupid looking like a V8 with....GASP....plastic on it. They have all pretty much looked the same since the Silent Tower in 04 just with more pipes and more fins.
