I've been out of VR for a whole 27 months now. The CV-1 was my start point and I definitely enjoy it but I'm not sure about setting it up when nothing is interesting.
Would be tempted to pick up the Quest 3 or PiMax if all the creepy screechy kids and vtuber collab spam got gone. There was NO end to it between 2020-2022.
I already have a working VR kit so it's not like anything is going to help me with VR development/testing. Just weigh the Quest 3's common problems and choose.
If you want why not.... just consider headaches and other VR illnesses....coz it sounds like fishy advertising ☺
This one here looks like the usual dumbass outsider take but I noticed a few things in specs:

You've got the same resolution I scale up to in SteamVR on the CV-1 with significantly better PPD and no screen door effect or any issues with the display whatsoever. There are multiple refresh rate settings too. I tend to stick to the multiples of 30 formula for best experience and that 90/120 sounds like a reason to push me towards this. The past experiments with 80Hz lock and getting weird frame times and frame drops whenever looking at something that doesn't shade/occlude correctly is a bad situation for test and play so I avoided it entirely. My RX 580 can only handle so much.
I will wait for reviews, but I think I might finally do VR, $299 and good specs is much more manageable. Can I plug it into my 7900 XT and play Steam VR games on it? No need to answer, I need to do a lot of research anyway
I would pick up a 7900XT to test that idea but today we all know even at sub-$600 I'm not getting delivery of a functioning card. Also the Rift software doesn't like AMD cards after 6000 series for some reason. Of course everything will still run, software needs to be updated real bad and we're not gonna see that kind of support for a good year or two. Balls to that.

I would wait for at least some kind of fair price drops but if things are suddenly too exciting for whatever reason it would be best to grab whichever has the best features or least problems. Even if I didn't have the CV-1 on my shelf, there's enough reasons for me not to touch the Quest 3 and most of them have to do with the target demographic that spikes right after Christmas.

If you have a best buy near you then they have a 15 day return policy. I think if the Quest 2 optics where good for you. Then only thing about the optics for me was the single screen and that I have a wide IPD at 67. I had to use mine on the 3rd setting and it took away from the FOV. If you use setting 1 or 2 then you get the full FOV. I would say the 3s is a solid option if you fall in that category. The 3s is actually lighter than the 2 and 3. Plus the IR for tracking means you can using it in low light as well.
I came across a picture that was taken with the IPD app I was using. My IPD is as follows according to the app:

68.6mm
Far PD: 68,6mm
Near PD: 66.8mm
Face width: 154mm

I'll probably just wait it out until I see a significant price reduction on the Quest 3. I was thinking a possible work around would be to get a Quest 3S for my Son's birthday but he has a list of things he wants and the Quest 3S isn't actually on it. He wants another electric guitar, a violin, a replacement set of PS5 edge Wireless Controller Joystick Thumbstick Modules, and a larger capacity M.2 2230 NVMe SSD for his Steam Deck,.....

I can't argue with his priorities though.

I own a Q3 since launch as does my brother.
We are twins and are both 36.
our sister is 31 and owns a Q2.

We all use it often in Meta worlds and some random games that we play together. I will admit that playing with friends and family is where this VR stuff thrives right now. Being alone is fine, but it isn't amazing.,

get the Q3 128gb minimum due to it's amazing optics. It's a fair price if you want some of the best VR experience that is on offer right now and it's at a solid price too!

I love my Q3! There's something about just sitting back and diving into the VR world! It's so good and relaxing!
