yeah, i get you on the price of the unit reviewed, although all review mention high quality build... nonetheless it could be well at half the price ...

dumb looking? it's a freaking VT-fuze for the black gold and as @TechLurker mentioned a good stand in for a Nuke MIRV for the green gold  (yeah odd but i do like the design  )

as for the KEF i wasn't complaining about the price, on the contrary i would love to see a review here... i tend to value @VSG reviews because the conclusion are almost always spot on with hardware i own compared to similar hardware reviewed ... i often rely on external review for things not covered, but i rarely find my own experience in these ...

as for the snickering on Meta ... well it's ... hum, an OCD i guess ;)
I know I'm being really harsh on this thing, the review and piling on at this point but its because as a technology site I'd like to see TPU review speakers. Speakers are technology and there is clearly crossover interest in PC hardware and audio hardware.

For me it comes down to the fact that this thing is $600-$700, comes from a no-name company, and offers no performance or features to justify its price. I visit this site, to see the coverage of the performance aspect of technology be it CPUs, GPUs, audio, peripherals ect, not overpriced fashion statements with no technological merit. This isn't even a good speaker its a category, its one step up from a generic quality drivers and electronics with allegedly luxury build quality with a design that serves no function other than to look weird (it would look good as set piece on The Real Houswives of New Jersey I guess). For $500 you can get something like a Denon Home 350 which would crush this thing in performance, has way more usable features and comes from a company that will still exist in 5-10 years. I'd like to see something like that get reviewed here even though I really don't care about BT speakers.

I only brought up the KEF because of how crazy their shit looks and to illustrate the point that hardware design can look good (or interesting at least) while staying true to its purpose in function. When I first saw KEF as a audio nerd kid in the late 90s and 00s I thought they were a gimmick but it turns out that concentric tweeter, tweeter lens, surround profile, and curved baffle on the vertical and horizontal axis on the LS50 are all there for a reason aside from just looking sleek and intricate.

I understand your point of view, ofc it's as valid as any other.

There is no way the design wasn't conscious of this.

Yeah this is just odd and looks like a warhead that would go off in your living room. While it's cool in a way I don't like single speakers much as I'm not a fan of soundbars either. And yeah 1500 is nothing for bookshelf speakers you can get singles that cost several times that and that's without touching high end brands.

While speaker reviews would be cool the cost gets up there. Powered monitors can as well but dodges the issues of DAC/AMP variables.

Has anyone noted it's all fun and games until someone pokes an eye out? And how long until we see a tort claim because someone was ripped a new one -- not because of price but because they sat on one?

No different than headphones, and some very pricey headphones get reviewed here that most people would dismiss intimidatingly based on the price.

Personally I think entry level to mid-range bookshelf (active and passive) speakers ($300-1,000) and maybe entry to mid pro powered monitors would be nice to see. Tested primary in nearfiled (desktop) use cause that makes the most sense in a PC hardware centric website but it would be nice to also see a traditional setup on stands in a living space for music, TV, movies, ect. One of those two routes are the only real option if you are want to upgrade past cheap PC speakers and everyone has their opinions in forums but its not something that often gets tested.

For example for powered bookshelf Q-Acoustics-M20 are $500. Amp, and DAC are built in, come with a remote, they play down to 55Hz but also have a subwoofer out.

For active pro monitors JBL 305P MkII are about the same size and come in at $350. Similar F3, amps are obviously built in but no DAC.
