Ubisoft deletes "inactive" accounts!

1. Incorrect. If you actually read GOG's User Agreement you'll see stuff like "17.3 It seems very unlikely, but if we have to stop providing access to GOG services and GOG content permanently (not because of any breach by you), we will try to give you at least sixty (60) days advance notice by posting a note on www.GOG.COM and sending an email to every registered users – during that time you should be able to download any GOG content you purchased." ie, it's extremely obvious they regard "your content" (offline installers) are being very separate from "a license to play the game is dependent on the store / client / services" of other stores. Fun fact - the word "subscription" or "subscriber" also doesn't appear in GOG's EULA even once (but 115x times for Steam). So yes, the way it's worded legally is actually different for obvious reasons (DRM-Free games work without "services", DRM'd games do not). Some people just get hung up on "but license means you own nothing" which is factually incorrect in this case. GOG games are licensed directly, most other stores (inc Steam) it's the store services being licensed with the content "subscribed" to being an indirect privilege dependent on those services.

2. Most people who want DRM-Free offline installers know why they want them for practical reasons, ie, as soon as they are in your possession and backed up, there is literally nothing that can be done to remotely disable or alter them. So again, the practicals are obviously as different as the legalese.

Of course you have more control over content with GOG, I never said anything about that.

Looks like another potential vector for phishing. Get the user all excited and mindlessly click a link in an email.

EULA/TOS here sound a lot like the "Non Compete" a company that I used to work for tried to make every employee sign and agree to.

Long story short(ish):
Older brother and I worked at same company years ago.
He tried getting the company to do sales online. They told him no, it's a stupid idea and to get lost.
He started his own online company and started doing well.
The company we worked for never had a non compete form or anything legally binding between employees and company before. They wrote up a non-compete contract and said everyone had to sign it.
My brother found out the contract would void his rights to own his online store and give it to them. He also caught wind of the owners looking to "leverage" employees into signing it by withholding raises and threats of firing.
Brother sought out a business lawyer who basically told him he could tell the owners to fuck off and any repercussions for not signing would land them in court and losing.
Not everyone signed so it a nullified.

Meh, Ubisoft was already on my do-not-buy list along with Activision, EA, and now Take-Two.

Plus, the only games worth playing from any of those companies are on GOG anyway.

GOG FTW.

Dangit you guys, I'd read the initial post and in a huff, opened my Ubisoft account and saw that I was okay....then, I saw that Far Cry 6 was going for about 30USD with a promo code, so I snagged it. Thanks a lot guys, bought another new game to add to my inventory of yet to play games! Downloading now with the HD Texture pack....about 100GB worth of download. Bought a couple of games from EGS (Aquanox Deep Descent, Werewolf The Apocalypse) and some recent purchases from Steam (The Outer Worlds, Chernobylite, Industria, Dying Light, Hired Gun). Man, I have bought others a while back in my inventory that I've yet to play!
Don't forget to login next week

What's the timeframe for this, or depends totally on dubisoft's whims & fancies?

While I agree with you, I have and will buy from those companies when they put titles on GOG. Take-Two for example put The Outer Worlds on GOG and it's a fantastic game. I've got a bunch of stuff from Activision and EA. If Ubisoft brought more to GOG I'd buy them, such as Farcry 3 BloodDragon.

But yeah, GOG FTW.

Ubisoft? Quit with your silly shenanigans, quit finding excuses to deny people access to what they've paid for and put more of your titles on GOG. Yes, yes!

Well, yeah. A huge part of my hatred for Ubisoft, EA, and T2 are the draconian DRM "solutions" they use. Putting their games on GOG completely mitigates that.

Plus, games as a service can't exist on GOG. Yet another reason it's the best.

I have gone years without logging into my Ubi account and never lost anything. I do use it much more these days though as Ubi has a lot of games I really enjoy. I'm glad I've read this thread though as I will make sure going forward that I do log in once in a while.

Never had an account with them anyway, far to many game services these days imo, i only use Steam + Gog, the rest can all go jump :)

You and I could NOT agree more on this point! GOG is the best! Full stop, end of discussion!
What I don't understand is you don't even need to install Ubisoft Connect to run your Ubisoft Games through GOG galaxy. The reason you have a Ubisoft account is every couple years they will complete your franchise. I own every Assassin's Creed even though I have only bought Odyssey. I got Watch Dogs 2 from my other favourite, Humble Choice and was happy to see Watch Dogs added to my library. I would say that once you have Galaxy and configure it, these kinds of scenarios become moot points though.

GOG galaxy is your friend.

What about the games I own? I wouldn't mind losing my Ubisoft account as long as I can play my Ubi games on Steam. The problem is, I can't (Steam installs Uplay whenever I launch one of their games).

I bet that you favorite game this is Pacman. ;)
