Upgraded to ryzen 5 7500f think temps are on the high side

Hello,

I was able to snag an ryzen 5 7500f and a b650 motherboard so upgraded from a regular 5600. I used my noctua nhu12a to cool the cpu. Now i see guys like randomgaming and iceberg who tested the cpu and cooled them with air that their cpu is only reaching 50's. Mine goes up in the 70's while gaming. Should i be concerned? Or is this normal with the nhu12a? I have applied the thermal paste as recommended by noctua on their website with a bigger pea in the middle en 4 smaller pea's on the side.
Motherboard is b650 tomahawk wifi. No overclocking only enabled expo on my gskill flare x 6000mhz.

I have a peerless assasin lying around is it worth replacing the noctua with this one for better results? Or is the noctua good enough?

You have nothing to worry about. AM5 runs hotter by design.

From review:

We're using a Noctua NH-U14S for temperature measurements.

The7500F is pretty much the same as a 7600.

Thanks for the ease of mind. Just thought gaming temps would be a bit lower.

The question is if they were running at stock settings. Other factors are CPU sample variance, room temp, case airflow, etc.

Yes, my case is a fractal meshify c. Not the worst but not the best for airflow either. I know comparing to others is difficult as the pc is almost never 100% the same.
But yeah as you said, the temps are within reason so i think i will leave my noctua cooler on it. Could try the thermaltake one but not sure if it will help.

When you say up to 70s you mean peak reading or like an average? And if its peak how is the avg? Whats your settings on power plan? Settings on CPU cooler? Default or custom fan curve?
What is you room ambient?
Have you ever monitor the power consumption of the CPU?
I know it should be as low as <80W (even at peak) but you never know...

Been playing Dead space remake now for half an hour. Peaked at 74 degrees celsius. Average between 65-70c. Cpu is running at stock. Cooler fan profile set to auto.
Powerplan is set to balanced, not ryzen balanced. I have windows 11 installed. Ambient is around 19 degrees c. Power consumption of the cpu peaks at 86w but mostly between 70 and 75w.

Hoped to have answered all you're questions but if you have any other just shoot.

Edit: played a little longer and peak wattage was higher

Ok, and that leads me to next questions...
When CPU PPT is reaching 80+W what is the CPU PPT limit %?
And what are the PBO settings in BIOS?

Im not familiar with 7500Fs but ive seen 7600s hitting 75~77W PPT limit (100%) by default (PBO auto or disabled).
Those gyus you've seen testing the CPU and got ~50C, what was their settings, power limits or even their ambient temp?

Not that there is anything worrisome with 75C... These CPUs are made to hit 95C operating limit with a critical temp over 100C (I think its 115C)
Im just keen to understand the how(s) and why(s).

Pbo is set to auto in bios PPT as well. I did not change things there only enabled expo. I do not know the other guys settings just saw it on youtube :) .
Yeah 95c is the limit i know, luckily did not hit that yet. The cooler is already loud enough now. Not extremely but definitely audible :).

This is my first experience with the am5 platform so i'm learning still. But made the jump from my 5600 because i was able to get the mobo and cpu relatively cheap.

I just saw YT video of randomgaming and that CPU on his test was mainly hover at 45~55W at his game tests. Having +20~25W (+45~50%) more heat generated can make a real difference

Just watched the video again, is this because i have a bad sample? Because the cpu clock speed is the same at 5050mhz. Or do i need to do change things in the bios?
Just played cyberpunk for 30ish minutes and max power draw i saw was 65w an max temp 60 degrees.

Maybe dead space really likes juice going through the cpu?
Or is see that randomgaming has a motherboard with 1x 8pin for cpu and my b650 tomahawk wifi has 2x 8 pin for cpu. So maybe that's the reason my 7500f is drawing more power?
Both the connectors are connected to my psu.

Edit: additional info

No one really can know why 2 systems are behaving differently. A lot can make real difference.

BIOS/version (AGESA) and each board vendor can handle it differently
DRAM configuration and speed
Different GPUs can make load on CPU different
Game resolution and settings
Windows version, build and CPU and/or power settings

....to name a few

If I were you I would set a CPU temperature limit in BIOS/UEFI to the desired level so the cooler doesn't go crazy, and let the CPU regulate it self to keep that limit.

BTW...
Pbo is set to auto in bios PPT as well.
If PBO is on Auto it means you dont have access to PPT.
Also means that PBO should be disabled by default and CPU is set to stock PPT/TDC/EDC.

Just watched the video again, is this because i have a bad sample? Because the cpu clock speed is the same at 5050mhz. Or do i need to do change things in the bios?

Thats not bad. If those are max values then the avg is lower.

Hello from frozen Poland (no it is not frozen at all). I got 7500f with AIO and 7800xt. Cpu is about 70-75 in games, 45-55 idle, gpu is 60 all the time. My polar bear was suprised by the ryzen temps, me either. (we do not have polar bears in Poland.

So my aircooler here in Belgium is doing great ;-). It's not freezing here either, but man we have a lot of rain... Maybe i can try watercooling to :) .

Dag Robert alles goed?

My temps are also around 75 degrees max in dead space remake. With an noctua nhu12a cooler. Motherboard is msi b650 tomahawk wifi.

For any AM5 nonX3D the max operating temp is 95C. X3Ds at 89C
Critical (shutdown) temp is over 100C... i think its 115C

It can reach 80c in a streestest when it's hot, i set my limit to 85 or 90 where fans only spin at 100% at 85 c i think

Max CPU operating temp and fan speed is 2 different settings

For example
From BIOS you can set CPU max temp to 90C and have CPU cooler fan curve to 100% rpm at 80C or whatever

My mb is stock set to 80c as if my mb thinks the temp limit is 80c

I only get high temps above 70c when i do cb r23, that test also makes my cpu run at 4950mhz on all cores, prime95 and occt and ibt it doesn't

P12 fans an artic freezer 36

Makes a huge difference if you have cool air in the room your pc is in

How are you sure that the board has set the CPU temp limit at 80C?
