Much appreciated

How much power does memory use? | Crucial.com
"you want to allocate around 3 watts of power for every 8GB of DDR3 or DDR4 memory"

Not sure how to interpret this, but if moving from 4GB to 8GB costs me 1W, it will be noticable on battery life.
There's no way it's 3 watts per 8 GB.

My laptop's battery is 99.9 Wh.

I can usually get around 8 hours of battery life, so I consume an average of 12.5-ish watts.

At 12 watts I'd get 8.325 hours of battery life.
At 13 watts I'd get 7.685 hours of battery life.

I'm consuming about 12-13 watts, on a laptop that has 64 GB of RAM.

64/8=8x3=24

If 8 GB was 3 watts, I'd be using 24 watts for just my RAM alone, when the reality is more like ~12.5 watts total system draw.

There is no way that a msi GT laptop will ever get 8-9hrs. I have the same wattage battery, 99.9wh, can I barely get 4hrs.

It can definitely get 8 hours. It requires running in iGPU mode and not having the screen at max brightness, etc, but it can very much be made to last that long.

Yes.

There's three GPU modes, discrete only, Optimus, and iGPU only.

Your pc is pretty decent, and in 1 year the new cpus and gpus are going to come out, everything current will be way cheaper, and you'll regret your purchase.

Wait it out bro, save yourself a lot of time and money, then either take advantage of a black friday sale or simply buy the next gen.

Oh wow, my laptop doesn't have that option. I run a ge77hx. Do you need to restart the laptop for that option
Yeah I have to restart it unfortunately.

This is MO right now. I'm sitting on an 8700K as well.

... with a 7900XT. Imagine my bottleneck ;) In TW Warhammer 3, campaign map, mid campaign I'm left with 60 ~ 50% of the FPS I had on turn 1.
But then you consider that's still 50~60 FPS. I can wait a bit for that sweet sweet 7800X3D to come down to senses.

4070 dual with another 16 GB of RAM and a CPU OC to 4.8/5 GHz will do.

You can upgrade the platform later.

If your current ram is slower than 3200 MT it's worth just buying a 3600 MT 2x16 kit they're very cheap.
