Well, you can still use XP on an SSD, just make sure that the controller has good integrated garbage collection. Otherwise the SSD performance will diminish over time (although it won't ever get to be as slow as a mechanical HDD).

Well, I was planing on buying a Samsung EVO either an 850 or 750. I have good experience with Samsung Magician that also have auto TRIM enabled via the application.

SATA I'm max throughput is exactly the same, maximum read and write. The random read/write of SATA I is much lower than the theoretical maximum rating, so any SSD will max out SATA I even on random access.

That's only for 4kB random reads. The 150mB/s will reduce the maximum read and write speeds.

That's why I suggested the OP would get just as much use from a HDD - and it'd be cheaper.

why put up with seek times if you don't have to. random read is one of the more important stats.

my 2008 vintage lenovo X61 tablet core 2 duo at 1.6 had windows vista and a normal laptop hard drive.. by modern standards it was usable but slow.. with windows 10 and an ssd its very usable and not slow.. its hard to believe its the same machine..
