Taiwan-based low-power computing technology company VIA sought a sales ban of Apple's iPhone and iPad, for what it alleges to be patent infringements of its microprocessor intellectual property. VIA sought a jury trial along with a sales ban on Apple products containing the inventions in the U.S., according to a complaint filed yesterday in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware.

In its complaint VIA says "The products at issue generally concern microprocessors included in a variety of electronic products such as certain smartphones, tablet computers, portable media players and other computing devices." This specifically impinges upon Apple's cash-cow products, the iPhone and iPad, and it isn't coming at a good time because Apple, according to market analyst Gartner Inc., will dominate tablet sales this holiday season. The case is Via Technologies v. Apple Inc. (AAPL), U.S. District Court, District of Delaware (Wilmington).

I'm rolling my eyes and laughing at the same time. It kinda hurts.

I love how they wait for the most opportune moment to bring something like this up. They don't catch it when it launches or during dev, only when its a success and a major competitor. Prolly end up getting a settlement of some sorts. Makes me think VIA is in need of money so they think...time to sue Apple!

Not that Apple isn't at fault in some way, they take a lot of ideas then brand it innovation.

Apple is bending over a few other companies due to shitty practices, now another company is going to take them from behind....really funny.

As much as I loath Apple for chasing Samsung through the courts, I loath companies that try and will inevitably fail do it to them.

Hells bells people stop wasting time sueing and crap, and just get a product that people will buy.

I bet this wouldn't happen if Apple wasn't so lawsuit happy.

Apple is going to come back with the argument that Samsung and VIA are colluding.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Ditto. Sammy has already gone on the offensive due to bans of the Galaxy Tab, et. al. in a number of countries, thanks to Apple... I hope this levels the playing feild.

Me thinks they're late to the game...

I sense of lot of sour grapes from the Apple zealot camp. Apple pretty much as of late brought this upon themselves. Hopefully *something* will happen here or on the Samsung front, Apple really has bullied themselves legally a bit too far lately. That and there are some dumb judges out there who are blindly ignoring Samsung (as an example) and their counters in the European courtrooms over the recent bans.

I hope VIA wins and brings Apple back down to earth...

The best product that Steve Jobs invented was an iQuit

Right? so you can enjoy your VIA tablet and VIA phone

These guys just want to make a quick buck. They brought it up now hoping that apple would over-react and settle since the case is probably crap and would not stand up in a trial. They're hoping Apple will just pay them to go away.

Same way Apple sues everyone over trivial things.

"Apple" and "Sue" in the same sentence, nothing new.
"Apple", "Ban" and "Patent" in the same sentence. Again, nothing new.
"X Seeks US Ban of iPhone, iPad Over Patent Infringements" .... :twitch: ->:roll: -> :toast::respect:

It doesn't matter, in the end Rambus will sue them all anyway.

Nah. If it came down to lawsuits, AMD will be the first target for Rambus.

how dare you the ipads look & feel, is not something trivial... It's apple main selling point.

this is all i have to say on the matter

yep... Karma.

It that lives in a glass and aluminum house should not throw stones.

Actually the correct term is

"He that lives in a glass house, shouldnt throw stones at others"

I love how the new market plan isnt to make a better product but to sue the crap out of your competition for trying to compete.
If apples products where as innovate and superior as they claim then why are they worried about everyone else inferior products.

It would be like Mitsubishi suing Subaru for making a AWD 300hp 4 door rally car.
