Yes, I despise Apple to the point of reaching for synonyms, but in this case I don't see how VIA will win. I mean, I'm glad somebody is suing Apple, but how exactly will VIA continue with this? What patents do they hold that Apple stole? I couldn't find out when researching the article, it all seemed very vague.

Apple suing samsung over the way you open your phone or other touchscreen device is vague. They just went after Samsung as the tab kicked their ass in reviews.

Due to their shitty practices I don't think i will ever own a Apple product.

These guys just want to make a quick buck. They brought it up now hoping that apple would over-react and settle since the case is probably crap and would not stand up in a trial. They're hoping Apple will just pay them to go away.

VIA is not some patent troll trying to make a quick buck, my guess is some company has them riled up and going after apple.

To all the people saying VIA is trolling, and that they should have sued at DEV or Launch... Do you have any idea how much it costs to persue a legal action? Especially against a company with pockets as deep as Apple's? For example, one of the local lawyers in town charges $500/hr. They're not even "well known" or "high-powered" laywers.

VIA had to wait until they knew it would be worth it, and until they had evidence to back them up. It takes a long time to build and follow through on a court case even if it is a sure bet, and somehow I doubt VIA had a spy in the iPhone Dev team...

VIA doesn't have a history of patent trolling. If this was Rambus, sure, I'd say they were just trolling. They've got a history of it, VIA doesn't. IIRC part of the legality surrounding patents, is if you don't protect your patents, and persue those who infringe on them, they effectively become null. (if the use of your patents becomes commonplace, and you don't sue anybody for it, it becomes harder and harder to win a patent case. again, IIRC. IANAL)
