WC loop for beginners?

What do you guys think... might get Thermaltake Bigwater 850i, scrap its rad and block, and get a triple rad + cpu (and vga block afterwards) and just reuse their pump and hoses...

What do you think?

no no no no no i used a custom loop with the same block as in the 850i and it cooled worse then a xigmatek DK aka DK at 55'c on an overclocked 965 vs 61 of custom loop with that block for comparison my gimped frio is 50'c same settings with 2 fans at proper speeds i can get down to 48c

your better off to just build a complete loop from scratch and get good parts and cut out the middle man

Couldn't agree more. My first loop was quite a few years ago with Tt... What a waste of money.

Go for the H50 for starters and pay no attention to the other crap.

A custom loop for a cpu only could cost $200 but handle almost any chip.

$70 rad
$50 pump
$40 block
$20 tubing/fittings
$20 fans
$20 ressy

That's just rough spec, pick up a used res/fans/and tubing/fittings and put the rest towards a better radiator for future proofing.

Exactly... the thing is like this. I can get the 850i set for 45eur and keep the pump/res combo.Sell the leftovers for 20eur (cpu block/ rad / fan).Can get Black Ic GT stealth 360 for 50eur, already have OCZ hydroflow CPU block and fans...

So basically i can get my starters WC rig for 75eur (50eur if i sell my HR-01+ cooler for 25eur) by using pump/res/hoses/liquid from 850i set, buying a triple rad and using my OCZ block (which i got for 5eur)...

If i were to go with a better setup it would be more than twice the price, 70-80eur for pump at least, 10-20eur for res, 50 eur for rad, at least 30eur for hoses/fittings (9eur a pop compression fittings) and some extra for liquid and whatever is missing...

I wsa also thinking of maybe still aircooling my CPU and buying EK full block for 5850 (70eur) and first watercool my GPU and later add expand on the CPU.

As sneekypeet says, the selection is quite scarce here and i would need at least 120eur for something like Swiftech MCP655 pump cuz i would need to get it from abroad with tax(18%)/customs(10,5%)/shipping...

Basically i would be just using 850i's pump/res combo...

No, if you are going to go with water, do it right. I had a big water setup and it was horrible. Fried my board because the block cracked. And then the pump cracked.

Sorry for double posting, but since everyone is recommending a liang style pump, just out of curiosity why are they so much better than any other pump? Performance? Longevity? Dependability?

Can anyone elaborate a little bit on that?

I know the pump is the "power supply" in wc loop, and id like to at least get that right from the beggining. I just found out that a local store can import stuff from caseking.de so my choices expanded all of a sudden. But before i spend 105 euros on a pump id like to know more if possible...

buy from here: ekwaterblocks.com/shop/ located in slovenia. They have all the waterblocks, radiators, pumps, reservoirs and tubing you'll need to put together an excellent starter kit.

I am a beginner with watercooling and I stayed away from kits. Went to the H50 and it was no cooler than my Thermalright IFX-14 so I put a custom loop together. It really is not all that hard.

Same here, I went from a H50 to a custom loop and a) it was really easy and b) it's worth it for the temps, appearance, and noise reduction. Good stuff.

Yeah, i have my eyes on Innovatek HPPS Plus pump the only problem is it has unconventional threading for inlet/outlet of 8mm (0.315 inches if that mean anything to you ). Currently waiting on Innovatek support to see if they have some adapters that would allow me to use G1/4" threaded connectors/fittings.

If that turns out as i wanted my setup would look like this:

- Innovatek HPPS Plus
- HWLabs BlackIce GTS 360
- OCZ Hydroflow CPU block
- 3m of 16mm/11mm tubing (7/16" ID 5/8" OD tubing)
- 6x 13mm barbs (16mm11mm comp.fittings) - not decided yet
- 1L Feser ultra pure water + corrosion blocker
- 2x Silverstone FM-121B fans (already have one)
- (add an EK-FC5850 later on)

might also throw in a small Innovatek HPPS compatible reservoir too

Just a note: The H50 and its equivalents are not an intro to water cooling. They provide no more WC handling experience than an air cooler with a backplate since you don't need to do anything other than mounting it in the case. There is no getting rid of air bubbles, no filling coolant and starting a "dry" pump, no cutting and fitting hoses and no real loop planning (the only thing you need to do is figure out where the rad goes and that's it).
