Currently using Zen 2 for 2 systems and 10th gen Intel for my laptop.
Considering upgrading my main system to Zen 3 since I really don't need anything more recent.
A 5900X or 5800X3D will make you smile with so much glee you will wonder why you didn't do it before. Especially in Gaming.
I think you're right on here. Zen 1 had the same issues actually except for the r7 1700 and r5 1600... Zen 3 had benefitted from people piling onto the zen platform.

The thing that saved zen 1 was the pricing and the fact that intel was on 4 cores. AMD were selling an 8 core that was cheaper and crushed everything in MT by a mile at that price.

Zen 5 with higher core counts and existing platform support has the potential to be a great product.
I just finished putting together a Gaming PC using an X470 board with a 5900X. The 5900X is snappier than the 5800X3D (not since I got 3600 14-15-15) but a current X670 board will do nice with one of those new chips with the knowledge that whatever X3D chip will happily slot into that board that you bought in 2023. We will probably see B750 boards with X3D on AM5. What would be nice is the board I want (MSI X670E Ace Max) should be cheaper than the $1000 CAD that Newegg wants for it.

Zen 3 (5800X3D)

I'm actually surprised seeing so many Zen 1 and 2 in the poll.
They can all move to Zen 3 and break the chart..... :)
That is why when the 5800X3D dropped in price it started selling out.

I've got a bit of everything. I recently upgraded to Zen 4, but I voted Rocket Lake (11th gen Intel) because that's been powering my PC for the last 2 years and I still consider it perfectly fine. I'm also keeping it as I've got plans to upgrade my living room HTPC into a secondary mini gaming rig.

I've also got a half-built Zen 2 system (the original HTPC from the living room), and another HTPC with a 4th gen Core i7-4765T in it.

My own PC is Skylake, i7-6700. I have a few months deadline and wait to see what Raptor Lake non-K and Ryzen 7000 non-X have to offer.

Otherwise agree with @80-watt Hamster, we need more options:
3700x (shared) at the office
i5-2400 for our oldest son
i3-2120 refurb for the other two kids
i5-m 520 on a 2010 macbook pro.
(I know that's a rather old collection, but SSDs make wonders on old PCs.)

I didn't mean to ask for more options, but the ability to choose multiple. A comprehensive list of architectures from the last ten years would be unnecessarily long.

Zen 4 for Windows, Zen 3(3D) for Linux, and a mix of Alder Lake & Zen 3 laying around because the new tax reporting laws in the US for '22 make it a pain to sell stuff on the internet.

Crap like this really ticks me off!
They want to play this game, you can bet if i sell something for less than i paid for it and have a receipt (most stuff i purchase online, so there will be a receipt) I will file it as a loss.

I know that feeling. You don't have to tax stuff sold as an individual here in the UK, but I can only sell either on Ebay and pay their ridiculous fees, or on Facebook Marketplace where no one buys anything. We also have CeX, a second-hand store chain that buys everything, but you only get scraps from them. The best option is usually just keeping what you have and repurposing some secondary rigs, or giving it away to friends. With rapidly rising hardware prices of recent years, no option is really good.

Actually I meant multiple votes too, maybe I didn’t express it correct.

Intel 8th gen. Still 'fast' to me. Gaming at 1080p 144Hz/FPS perfectly. I also do some 3D/CAD work which is calculated quick enough for my expectations. In the long run, if I'm printing something for 15-20 hours I don't care much if it finishes slicing in 2 minutes versus 1 minute, or even 30 seconds. Certainly not worth the expense of an entirely new PC (thousands) to me.

"Intel/AMD HEDT" is misleading. I could theoretically put myself in that category, but the 3930k is pretty damn old at this point.

Still cruising fine with my X99 platform / 6950X CPU. Cyberpunk was the first game that actually forced me to overclock in order to ensure no performance drops, so that was my yellow flag warning that it was time to plan an upgrade - I'll be upgrading this Jan / Feb in all likelihood.

Use to be Intel 2nd Gen (Sandy-Bridge, still in active duty) and jump to Raptor Lake just a week ago.
Gone are the days where Intel cultivated bridges, now only lakes on their mind.
