Sure. I would need to use 2 8 pins then, which I won't because I wont get such a power hungry card. Cheers

hahah ok
Ok you only need the 20/24 pin to 8 pin adapter for the motherboard, the EVGA PSUs come with 8 pin pcie connectors 6+2

Ok so I will try to find a psu and a 1660 super. I don't think I'll be able to find a new psu for $50. I live in Ireland by the way. And the 1660s would be second hand I suppose.

Yeah I won't want to solder anything on the pc. I wouldn't modify the psu. If I get a 'normal' psu I would buy a 24pin to 8pin adapter.
Cheers

Yeah I've heard about them but if I'm buying another psu it would be best to get a normal one I suppose.
Thanks

I really think that the 6600xt is way too much for this cpu. I know it's a really good card for it's price but I feel that it's a bit too much. I'll take a look at the 5600xt.
I think the 6400 doesn't have encoder. I would like to have encoder for streaming.

I don't mind buying second hand. Isn't 150w waaaaay too much for this build? Like the psu is only 290w.
The psu that I got has no 6pin or 8pin.
Thanks for the suggestion about the sata lanes.
Cheers

Are these good psus? I'm in Ireland by the way.

Evga is the best of listed, then i would corsair, and let the aerocool for only this optiplex, i wouldn’t like it good/average modern pc. Yes it won’t definitely explode like youtubers say but. If you don’t want problems - any seasonic. Not already SO much pricier than it was a few yrs ago.

Yes I have the MT one. I wrote that on the first line of the post by the way.

Im going to measure the case now but I think it's a normal psu. If I buy another one I would need to get a 24pin to 8pin adapter. But I've seen a couple of videos in which people say that the 290 watt is enough for some cards. What do you think?

Thanks for your reply. I've seen that there are some Sata to 6pin. What do you think about those.
Yes you will need the adaptor if you want a bigger PSU, you can get by on 290 watt only in the case of a lower end cart (Something not requiring a 6 pin IMHO). So my advice would be changing the PSU to like a 500watt model at least then you can look at GPU's that have a 6 or 8 pin.

Ok thanks man.
Hopefully you did not get a supply yet, there is some videos on how to upgrade a Dell using the 290W supply. The Game Bench did a bunch of videos on just upgrading the video card, called Dell OptiPlex GPU Upgrade Guide. He also has info for upgrading the CPU in dell systems as well.

Myself, I run a Dell 3020 with the same CPU, 2 16Gb of DDR with 2 480GB BX500 SSD's and a RX550 4Gb card using the stock supply. I get 30 plus frames in Metro and most other games without over clocking it, though the RX560 would have been a better choice. It even runs the Unreal Tournament beta on low setting pretty well which is surprising for what I am running.

Chiming in a little late here, but a Geforce 1650 would be about all this system could push anyways. A 1070 or a 5600xt will be CPU bottlenecked. 1650 would run off the motherboard with no additional connecter needed either.

yeah, it's great choice and trouble-free. because, all these PSU adaptations are completely laughy, better just get another case and mb in used deals.

I have an Optiplex 7050 MT (in system specs) and I can tell you that the PSU form factor (external dimensions) are either proprietary or possibly TFX - I have not measured, but a standard ATX will not fit and will have to sit outside of your case.

It looks like your 7020 "MAY" support a full ATX or at least SFX PSU, but you will have to measure it to confirm.

Another option is to go with a GTX 1650 - it should not require a PSU swap. It is less powerful than the 1070, but it is slightly better than the RX 6400 and has video encoders in it.

Great info, thanks. I'm fitting up an Optiplex 7050 MT with parts I can switch when I get around to building new. since you have a 7050 MT, I've looked closely at the MB and want to know what you think is the longest GPU card that will fit. Double slot cards generally are merely PCB in the slot with remainder hanging over onto PCI slot area. Please let me know what you think since you're obviously well-acquainted :) BTW, I have power for a larger GPU figured out.

Ok, will measure tomorrow at work.

Looks like up to 200mm if you are willing to go a bit tight. CPU airflow might be pretty low.
A triplw-slot cooler should fit alright though, as long as you don't need any other PCIe cards.
