What happened to 2-slot aftermarket GPU coolers ?

You need to give it some thought. You said the size of the cooler does not matter. It does. Your argument seems to imply there is no air flow through the case. That is false. You also seem to imply a large hot chunk of metal with no fan will not dump heat into the case. It will. If it doesn't, the GPU will burn up or shut down.

Regardless, the size of the cooler - which is designed to suck heat away from the processor and radiate it out away from the processor - with or without a fan - does indeed matter. The surface area of the cooler, the more heat is radiated away or simply rises away.

i dont think i said that a large chunk of metal with no fan will not dump heat into the case it quite clearly will.. just not as effectively as the same large chunk of metal with a fan on it..

my original comment was made in reply to a poster that suggested that the larger three slot coolers would help keep the case tempts down.. i said they wouldn't.. you picked up on it from there.. after that a little confusion crept in.. he he

ether way nuff said on the subject.. :)

Honestly, when the cooler on my 390 works well enough to keep it cool under full load, I have very little reason to want to replace it. Keep in mind that a chassis can have airflow but, the air might not be flowing in a way that will exhaust all the heat from your system. I see a huge difference just by removing the intake fan on the side panel of my machine because it's contributing to moving cool air over the GPU whereas the ones behind it by the CPU are exhausting it. Without it, there would be far less airflow going by the GPU which means higher temperatures.
