I doubt any true audiophile will defend a 3.5mm jack in terms of audio quality, also.

Besides, USB-C earbuds are a thing as well.

Honestly, I didn't think I could live without either a earbud jack or SD slot, but I got a phone without either and the USB-C works pretty good.

If I didn't have wireless charging, it could be an issue though.

When that technology came I thought it would be like actually *Wireless but nope just a pad that's connected via table or where it is. Wired is still best just saying

Yeah, I was referring to the fact I could charge it while using the USB-C port for earbuds (or a USB drive).

It is also pretty handy to be able to just set it down and pick it up without messing around with cables, as I use it reasonably regularly while at work.

I doubt "true" wireless charging will ever come to be. A man by the name of Tesla tried to do that and it resulted in a real hair-raising experience.

Nonsense!
I mean I remember in 2006 I bought MP3 Players from company COWON "based on South Korea" with amazing audio bc of the dac's they used. I miss my COWON D2/S9 which both has amazing battery life up to 55hrs to 33hrs

If the device has enough internal storage and let's face it, most phones today come with at least 128 GBs of internal storage... I have to ask, what's the deal breaker here? OK, maybe if you have a lot of photos that you've taken with the phone you might run into issues but that can be solved by pulling the photos off.
I have large quantities of audio and video I listen to while working. Streaming isnt an option, between total lack of signal and lack of willingness to pay for garbage streaming. It takes me 2 seconds to put the SD card in a newer system and I'd rather not pay the $200 premium for a few more gigglebits.
As for no headphone jack, with the advent of Bluetooth headphones and earbuds, that negates that issue. And before you say that audio quality isn't as good as wired headphones, you haven't listened to headphones that use either AptX, AAC, or LDAC as their Bluetooth codec; either of those three will change your mind when it comes to Bluetooth audio quality. The days of the shitty low quality SBC codec are gone.
Well unless AptX suddenly added bluetooth to my vehicles, my home sound system, ece, then it is absolutely still an issue. My phone is also used for troubleshooting audio systems at work, and those are not bluetooth either.

We didnt get bigger batteries out of the deal, and most phones are not more waterproof. Just put the jack back, its not hard.

OK, you have special needs that are niche by today's standards. Most people simply use Bluetooth and forget about it.

Hell, I use Bluetooth all the time, even with my desktop computer. The sound card on my motherboard hardly gets used.

I can agree to a point sir. I mean I don't have any issues but I get it. Mine can disconnect when I'm about say... 7feet or whatever but haven't really tested

Wait. What? I use Bluetooth all the time, in fact I have a pair of Bluetooth Sony headphones on my head right now while sitting at my desktop computer. No issues.

And with the latest codecs, there's even more redundant data in the data stream to recover garbled data.

I've got a Sony set myself. Nice one. Hate them. RF Interference is a real thing and it's a pain. Cords don't get that. Eff bluetooth as a audio connection.

What? Nope. No issues at all for me. I have Windows 11 which has built-in AAC Bluetooth codec support which my headphones support. I have my computer in the basement, and I can walk all around the house, even to the third floor, and have perfect sound.

Then again, I'm using the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi card on my motherboard that has a dedicated external antenna assembly. Maybe that's why. Those cheap little dongles that connect via USB suck.

And you're lucky. Most people deal with at least some RF issues. I'm very unlucky, live in an area with a METRIC ton of RF Interference. So for this area, bluetooth is just a no-go so 3.5mm jack is essential. USBC connector is a no go because how the hell do you charge your phone and listen to music at the same time..

Nonsense! Anyone who is going to use a headphone jack is going to use(drum-roll please.....) headphones. No audiophile cares, at all. And bluetooth/USBC are not "better".
I was thinking of USB DAC for phones.

Set it on my wireless charger and plug in my USB-C earbuds. As it doubles as a stand, I can also watch a video more conveniently.

A phone, two tablets and a laptop? Two different headsets have the same problems. It's environmental.

Fair enough, but that's very niche.

Ok, that's a good thing. Still, all my headsets are 3.5mm jacks. I'm not converting over to anything else. Standards exist for a reason. There's not one good reason for a phone NOT to have a 3.5mm jack.

Fair enough. I wasn't arguing for it's removal, just pointing out that it generally seems like a much bigger issue than it turns out to be.

Also, I have a couple of USB-C to 3.5 adapters laying around.

Wired is still best just saying
From the inception point of the tech I've really come around on it's utility. 100% wired still best for fast charging, but I charge my phone every night now and barely ever need a top up, so it sits on a wireless charger overnight. Have fast wired chargers around the house if needed.

Also for wired charging I went all in on a magnetic ecosystem, so literally every device that takes USB Micro or C has a mag tip in it, and any cable around the house/car etc charges and of my devices. Game changer.

Work- Galaxy S10e (due for replacement- USB-C port trashed but still usable thanks to wireless charging)

Personal- Galaxy S21 FE 5G (upgraded from Galaxy S7)

AFAIK replacing the USB-C port on the S10 series isn't too difficult (unless this is different on the S10e from the S10+), if you can get the phone opened somehow. The part should be pretty cheap, too. It's worth fixing it and keeping as a backup, IMO. I've had my S10+ serviced and the battery replaced, the phone's performance actually increased quite significantly, my old battery must have gone really, really bad.

You'll definitely feel the age comparing it to a Galaxy S21-type phone (Z Flip or Fold 3 included), but other than the 60 Hz screen, it doesn't seem to be much worse off than a midrange Snapdragon 778G platform like the A73 5G.

Speaking of that though, I'm simply in love with my new Z Flip 3. Such a wonderful phone... excited to see the Z Flip 5. I'll probably be only upgrading when the 7th gen foldables come about, but I am super happy so far. It's snappy, and feels satisfying and enjoyable to use.

Happened to my last phone as well. Too much bending force too many times, I think. If I had to guess, the connection to the PCB was damaged.

Happened to my last phone as well. Too much bending force too many times, I think. If I had to guess, the connection to the PCB was damaged.
You mean to say that the port isn't reinforced by having it screwed to the frame of the device? Because that's how it is on the iPhone with the Lightning Port. If you look at the bottom of the phone there's two tiny screws on both sides of the Lightning Port that I can only assume are used to reinforce the structural integrity of the port.
