What Router Are You Using For Your Computer

the first has a faster CPU, so I assume the same may be true for the RT-N66U and RT-N66R
I had (or maybe I still have it somewhere boxed up) the N66R. The "R" were usually for box store retail but had identical specs. If their was an upgrade (or downgrade) to the CPU they typically would call it rev 2, 3, etc.,

CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS it's overkill but it was a spare after a network reorg, although honestly a RB5009 would have been a better choice for home use

Wifi on the MR3420 is turned off. Yes everything is very old and the chain is very long winded but I didnt want to spend another $120 unless I had to.
For now. This was more of a proof of concept that it would and could work.

Network is quoted to give upto 42mb/s but im only getting between 17-20. Still better than nothing.

Otherwise when im at home home:

I use a AC1700 with a GPU heatsink mod on it...

TP-link is the only thing offered in my area besides Asus & netgear.
But Forbes & other sites say they are getting targeted by the US government! Just when I'm looking to finally upgrade to Wi-Fi 7 & 2.5Gbs seems like asus & other brands models are a bit behind tp-link in features>costs. Be nice to see a solid mid-range Asus model number this year with pricing beating TP-Link

I use an x86_64 based router. Custom gentoo linux distro on it using iptables. I'd give more details but this is my business security footprint, so no.

It hooks to my cable modem, which is technically a smart router but is just configured in "bridge mode" because who the fuck trusts ISP supplied routers from comcast. They don't even let you change your default DNS!

My line speed for cable isn't bad though, 2gbps down and 300mbps up. I made sure the modem was a "Broadcom" based part, because Puma chipsets suck.

Asus RT-AX88U Pro as the router with an Asus RT-AX5400 in mesh mode.

Sadly, I have to use the AT&T gateway behind the router with the gateway in IP Passthrough mode. AT&T won't let anything else connect to their FTTH network.

Yeah, I've been waiting for something like this as well...doesn't even need to be cheaper imo...just some-what competitive.

I don't know how they managed to release a ton of different models, and yet your two options are "overpriced" or "not what you want".

It wasn't the case for AC/AX. They're really milking BE. Was hoping to see something at CES, but all they had was that (again absurdly overpriced) AI thing.

Might give a BE92U a try.

Edit: I see it just dropped in price from $300->$220 on Wednesday. To me, that's about right. I'll probably snag it when it drops below $200.

It would be cool if there were cheaper options with all bands and more redundancy, but whaddya' do.

Mikrotik CCR2004-16G-2S+PC

I was using a HEX S, but it was too slow to run Cake for QoS over 100mbps consistently. Some of the other queues would drop packets which wasn't ideal. I also wanted at least 2x 10gbps ports

None, my PC is directly connected to my ISP's modem (wired) and for my wireless devices i have two TP-Link XE75's.

So what modem/router did your ISP supply you with

I use an x86_64 based router.

In Ancient Times I built a Freesco router on ... I want to say a Pentium 2 based system but maybe s370 Pentium 3. At some point I bought 140 PCI NICs for like €1. Anyway it worked well but I very quickly realized I had no need for any of that and also probably wanted WiFi so I scrapped it. It was a fun project thought.

As for the question at hand ... an Asus Something Something. I live alone in a small apartment, router model and capabilites does not really matter.

They don't even let you change your default DNS!

That is the kind of thing I don't even know what to say about. It's ... I sort of get it I guess because 99.99% of humanity knows not what DNS is and even fewer care about it/needs to know or care about it, but it's also such a very basic thing, and also given what I know about American ISPs (and given what I know about the world any other ISP) I would not trust them.

Just got an ASUS AX58U v2 (second-hand) but had to resolder the LEDs to get them to work.
