What is this used for? I have never owned anything like this, I am just curious. I know Steam Deck can have its sticks replaced if you know soldering techniques, but thats only use case I could think of

This tool sucks away the solder after it is heated and therefor liquid.

The 7900XTX was spiking so high under load it was putting the 850w Lian Li SFX PSU in to protection... So I have this monster now. Barely fits in the case. I need to pull it out and rerun the 24 pin cable at some point because it's putting a lot of pressure on the back of the GPU right now. It's... Tight. Very tight. Any bigger and I would have had to return.

recapping a motherboard, or any small electronics work.

I found I needed more for recapping a mother board as the ground plans steal a lot of heat; which is where a desoldering iron is useful (the hole in the bit helps heat the whole capacitor leg).

I use a hot air tool for desoldering SMD to warm whatever board it is to aid DE/Soldering.

And you Americans, it is not called soddering :p

Whilst I appreciate getting a beefier PSU I don't quite understand why you didn't just lower the power consumption of your GPU by lowering its clocks. Only a couple hunnit MHz, and you're all golden. And this isn't even much performance lost, only 6 to 8 percent in the worst case.

It is when you have to give that sod a ring to see if he still fixes this type of stuff. :p

Not many consumer electronics are manufactured with the consideration of repair so it's tough to find someone skilled enough

I found the keyboard at a random store with a 10-quid discount on it. It's not a fortune, but I've always wanted a decent mechanical keyboard with white backlight (I hate RGB on peripherals). It's a bit less clicky than the noname one I had before, but feels very nice in general. The only thing that feels weird for now is the left Shift key being half the size than that on the old one, which makes me mistype at times.

Then the mouse, just to make the set complete. I didn't even know that it had a weighted scroll wheel for getting to the bottom of web pages quickly, but it's awesome! You can also switch between clicky and smooth movement on it depending on your preference or the situation.

Weighted scroll wheels are GREAT, and one doesn't even need to spend a ton to get one.

LG Gram 16" laptop with i7-1260p. Got it cheap on Ebay.

Plus: thin and light and good display, very similar to my Macbook Pro 16" (no, really). Two M.2 NVMe slots.

Minus: no BIOS boot (eUFI only), UFI support doesn't work for Debian although it does work for FreeBSD. Lousy speakers. A bit like an ugly black plastic bomber. Soldered RAM (16 GB). Num block on keyboard.

Really? Never had issues running distros on UEFI, and my first laptop with it was a Haswell-equipped Dell.
Mint, openSUSE, Manjaro and now Garuda. Many issues along the way (Nvidia Optimus says hello), UEFI dual-boot wasn't ever one of them.

I googled it and I found other people who had the same problem - some Linuxens boot on the uEFI of the LG Gram and others do not. Apparently Ubuntu works for me, so I might dig into the differences between Debian and Ubuntu later. FreeBSD and Ubuntu is a good set to operate on.

Also a minus: the BIOS has no setting to power up when external power comes in.

ok ... they misslabeled the power in and pc in USB-C on the device and on the user manual
i had to format the SN770M using my Raidsonic enclosure, not a problem.

seems to be working ... verdict once finished, 50% went quite fast, let's see the total time later.

Ordered a pair of Teamgroup MP44 1TGB Gen 4 7400/6500MB/s NVMEe's to go with some of the other parts. Thought maybe I'd raid them, but I'll have to think that over a bit.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
so, waiting on the cloning (perfect cloning Bitlocker active  and then creating a partition on the last 1.3tb for the main game folder ) and having received a mail notification :

ayo, and the IEMs to go with the Kz memory foam eartips has arrived

KZ x HBB PR2 13.2mm planar magnetic IEM, well they came with their own memory foam tips installed on (and 6 silicone one ), so, why did i wast money buying a box of them?
aherm, 1. it was cheap and basically bundled with the IEMs 2. well i knew the one on the IEM were M sized and i need L size  and 3. well the box is neat to store not only the memory foam tips but also the plain silicone one. (the original are in the bottom compartment top row and they even look smaller than the M size on the second row  )

as usual with KZ ... the cable is, well, at best just barely usable, it works but feels overly cheap ...
20231114_155306.jpg

on the other hand ... the IEMs look quite nice, resin shell with alloy faceplate 7+7 N52 magnet 13.2mm planar driver, and they feel almost premium

but they sound premium, tested normal headphone jack on the desktop (not optimal) with the KA1 they sound a bit better, but they trully shine with the Q11, now i see why some review mentioned them being hard to drive ... but just like the Spirit S3 ... i love how they sound

paid 30$~ roughly, now they are back at 44 on TEMU or 38.25 on Linsoul/AliExpress

and they sound premium, tested normal headphone jack on the desktop (not optimal) with the KA1 they sound a bit better, but they trully shine with the Q11, now i see why some review mentioned them being hard to drive ... but just like the Spirit S3 ... i love how they sound

paid 30$~ roughly, now they are back at 44 on TEMU or 38.25 on Linsoul/AliExpress
I have a pair of KZ's ES3 for some good years now, and I only had to get a new cable for them. Great sound for a great price then, and still going strong when I need them.

And you Americans, it is not called soddering
Why do the American's use the french word for solder which is souder, and then verb it to soudering? It's awful to hear. They do it on purpose to annoy us.

You're giving the average guy too much credit.

It has nothing to do with France - they just pronounce it as "sodder" rather than "solder" which is the correct way.

Got triple pack Thermalright fans and Kingston KC2500 2TB.
Finally color matched the fans and almost completed this build. Only minor cosmetics left to suit my likings.

Got the drive on discount on Amazon. I expect to get a 4TB PCIe 4.0 drive later when they are more affordable and shift 3.0 KC2500 to motherboards second M2 slot which runs at PCIe 3.0 x4 anyway so it would be perfect there. Overall it has expected speeds. It is also a TLC drive.

We are a melting pot - mix both English and French

For an elderly relative's computer - finally moving away from a HDD boot drive.

For said relative, replacing a screen on an older phone so he can use it.
