Found a slightly odd GTX1070. Why odd you ask? It’s an Asus Republic of Gamers with blower type cooler. I didn’t know they made one, all the RoG versions I’ve seen are pretty standard three fan design.

It was just £40, in a bad state but cleaned up really well. Runs at 72 degrees, it’s not quiet but also not the loudest card. It’s replacing a GTX980 in the living room pc (i7 4790, 8gb DDR3). I didn’t really need it but £40 for a 1070?!?!

Previous owner was deffo a heavy smoker…

In reality it is darker and teal-er, closer to the Cold War Soviet cockpit panels' colour I was going for, but it's just borderline impossible to accurately reproduce the colour in pictures

Fantastic colour!

Got a cheapo turn table to try phone+app 3D scanning. No silicone feet....extra set of tops don't really fit that well. But works as intended. Uses USB-C or 1x18650 battery:

IMG_0228a.JPGIMG_0230a.JPGIMG_0231a.JPG

Also....downsizing the GPU :D :D Before you ask, that's a working GTX985X2...you read that right, still works. Now.....I wonder....how do I make a backplate for the RTX A2000 :D

Please say 3D printing because close cardboard proximity to GPU hotspots may not a good idea.

The Inventum GF500HLD with absolutely the loudest beep. The whole neighborhood will know when my tasty snacks are done.
This one has a separate tray, 5 liter capacity and a display. But oh lard that beep is loud.

I bought a Qnap TS-932PX and converted the 2.5 bays to 3.5 with Sata extension cables, Synology 8 bay was around $1200 with 10gbe nic card, going with 9 bay qnap this was only $650 with 2 10gbe ports and two 2.5 gbe ports included and gained 1 extra bay. so about half the price with great speeds.

Needed a flash drive larger than 4GB to hold all the CDs my wife had, she wanted them digital to play in her car.

Stopped at target, spent $7 on a 16GB flash drive, got home, plugged it in and found out that it's actually 32GB. Not that she needs that much storage room, but I guess a nice bonus. Even says 16GB on the packaging and flash drive itself.

wait, wut!!??

make sure the capacity is right using other apps, you might loose more important files rather than saving/backing up more.

Here's an update on my April 7th post in this thread where I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and a Walmart Onn tablet for dirt cheap at a local thrift store. I had expressed my disappointment about being unable to unlock the S2's bootloader and praised the Onn for how easy it was to root.

I did some reading on XDA and saw some threads mentioning that, for this specific tablet, if OEM unlocking isn't available in developer options, treat it as if it's already unlocked. So I downloaded Heimdall (hacked/FOSS replacement for Samsung's diagnostic software) and TWRP, tracked down a build of LineageOS for this tablet and got to work.

I figured that with the worst-case scenario, I brick a tablet that I don't even want to use. And the best-case scenario, well...

I went into Heimdall and flashed TWRP (thus voiding my warranty in the process, oh no.)

20240518_232512.jpg

Off to a fantastic start. Once booted into TWRP, you can do pretty much anything. So I went ahead and flashed LineageOS and Magisk, and...

I was absolutely ecstatic when I saw this screen for the first time.

Gone is the horrible stock Samsung ROM that's loaded with bloatware and annoying crap, and in its place is a nice, clean, customizable, fast booting, basically stock Android ROM.

The only issue this doesn't resolve is the fact that it's still stuck on Android 7. But this ROM is soooo much better than the stock ROM, and of course I have root access now.

And, of course, with TWRP installed, I can now engage in all sorts of shenanigans with this tablet.

I think it's safe to say that I actually own this tablet now.

EDIT: I decided to have a bit of fun and found an unofficial build of LineageOS 20 for the SM-T810 on XDA. Flashed it, and...

20240519_140814_HDR.jpg

...now I have Android 13 installed on this nine-year-old tablet. It's even up-to-date on security patches, with the latest being from May 5, 2024.

I can't say I care enough to verify more than what disk manager shows me, but a quick search I found a reddit topic about the same drive that another person purchased off Target. Sounds like the same 16GB Memorex flash drive, but shows 28GB when they use it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/18bp50i
Seems I'm not the only one that's come across this same discovery.

After two years, it's time to maintain the liquid cooling circuit. I'm going to take the opportunity to try phase change TIM by taking advantage of the first order price (0,99€ 80X40 mm.) on AliExpress.

Dell Precision 3550 laptop! It's very nice, speedy, and very well built and excellent thermals! it's backlit and allready trip tested...

works great with bitwig on linux. Linux mint runs good...

I haven't run into much linux issues on dell laptops cuz they even certify all thier stuff to work w linux and that's what I like about em!!!

The Inventum GF500HLD with absolutely the loudest beep. The whole neighborhood will know when my tasty snacks are done.
This one has a separate tray, 5 liter capacity and a display. But oh lard that beep is loud.
