Where are the drives supposed to go?

The holes are huge, and I begin to wonder if I am missing some hardware.
there should be either a sled or rubber plugs

For a typical home user/gamer, paying for a fast drive is IMO pointless as a cheaper drive gets the job done just as well.
I've used a sn550 as my previous boot drive and it write speeds were terrible.
down to less than 500mb/s
So only "quality" budgets ones, like the nv2.

I feel so stupid; I just got a second-hand gamming computer with lots of space on the case; but where are all the drives supposed to go?

Sadly many modern cases are extremely minimalist now and they as if the only thing that matters is housing the board and cooling. I expect there might be some mounts behind the motherboard tray.
 
I finally figured out that the mounting hardware was left out by the seller.
 
First have to figure out if he still has them, if not I may just get a whole new case.

It was a good deal, so no regrets; even in its present state it is usable.

How full do you keep them? I've read that the speed can really drop unless they are mostly empty.

Personally I like to keep at least 10% space on my SSDs, no matter which model the drive is.
 
Slow progress, but now I know that Cooler Master case uses grommets and pins to mount the SATA SSD; now I just have to locate a source.

Personally I'd opt for a larger NVMe SSD over any spinning rust. Playing games from a conventional HDD is painful these days. Otherwise toss in a larger capacity 2.5 SATA SSD in one of the 3.5 bays under the PSU shroud and they won't care of they're just lying there. It's not like you're going to move the PC around a lot and SATA SSDs don't vibrate or have any moving parts.
 
Short of those times i knew the case wont stay with me for +6 month, i dont use any drive bays since switching to all-nand for storage,
and since the last 4y, even ODD is gone, which means any case i sell will probably not come with any of the parts to be able to mount them,
short of some spots like back of the MB/bottom of case etc.

50-60%, I have three NVMe and two SSD in my PC plus spare SSD I use for back up in USB dock

I did finally figure out a solution (as I could not find the Cooler Master sleds); Cooler Master rails for a 3.5" drive and a converter sled (which I already have)

I have a 2TB SATA SSD that will come over from the old PC, so I'll probably stick with the 500GB NVMe (WD blue) that is already there as a boot drive, keeping it mostly empty for speed.

Things are a little complicated at the moment as I let my son use the 'new' machine until he goes off to college in a few months (he helped me get a good deal on this machine).

One USB port was damaged, and at first it didn't look like I would be able to locate a replacement.

Don't think so as it says on there site that it only holds 2 drives ( i noticed that and fould it odd that they made the holes so big ). How ever you could add 2-3 SSD's by drilling some holes near the front side use some black screws and it be like if it should of been. ( maybe you have some single drive bays if taking the SSD's apart is a issue.

Two 3 1/2" drives in the bay and two 2 1/2" drives on the plate (if one has the grommets/pins), but I only have need for a single drive to supplement the NVMe drive on the motherboard.

I would have gone for the grommet/pin method for the plate-mounted 2 1/2" drives, but I couldn't find the parts; the rails were just over $3 with postage.
