Editorial Why the Litecoin Craze Hurts More Than Helps Brand AMD Radeon

they are pre built "cases" they sell dude, it's a link that.

I finally read the article lol.

This is the heart of it:

Yet another reason we believe that the hike in AMD Radeon prices is not a result of inventory shortage, is because of pricing in other markets. Retailers in the EU apparently have healthy inventories of AMD Radeon, or at least the unaffected prices of graphics cards there seem to suggest that, if we were to believe the short-supply argument. We don't think Europeans aren't enamored by P2P currency, or the art of making money, but that European retailers aren't getting cocky about pricing their AMD Radeon inventory to end users, at least not yet. Eventually, bad pricing of AMD Radeon may catch up in Europe.

That brings us to the operational portion of this OP-ED. How the P2P currency craze hurts AMD more than helps it. AMD isn't manufacturing "Hawaii" silicon on a war footing. There are no indications that the company is scaling up supply to the "demand." The inflation in AMD Radeon prices appears to be backed more by the chips' huge price-performance advantage over NVIDIA at P2P currency processing, rather than short-supply. Whoever is into Litecoin processing, is apparently willing to cough up $700 for an R9 290X.

And it's completely false. The european market is actually inherently unsuitable to cryptocoin mining due to much higher electricity prices, invalidating your whole argument, as it's premise is now actually SUPPORTING the conditions that would produce a shortage: We are only seeing shortages in areas where mining is profitable. THAT indicates a localize shortage, not price gouging.

When I was looking at the 7990 (Powercolor and AMD versions) last september/october from German eBay, I found them at about 450-700€. Cheapest were the Powercolor version. A few months ago I saw a lot of 7990's in German eBay in the price range of 800-2500€. At the moment, I can only find 8 7990's and quite a few of them are Powercolors. All of them, but one Powercolor are used. The prices are somewhere between 560€ (unfinished auction) and 950€ for used one.

If I would've invested that 450€, done mining and put it up for sale, I would have benefited quite nicely, I think.

Here in NZ you can get 290X, in stock, for $540USD (after conversion and with tax removed. 780 (non ti) $546USD (lowest in stock price), and 780 ti $766USD (again lowest in stock price. There is no inflation due to product shortage here. Mining is not a factor, as electricity isn't cheap. The inflated prices and cards instantly selling out at or near MSRP, in the States and Canada are purely mining driven. If it were simply a shortage because AMD didn't have cards it would be happening here as well.

Sold my 7970 for $350, I paid $285 for it :)
