Windows 10 Upgrade Begins Rolling Out in Waves

INFACT!

microsoft said that this would apply to home editions, pro editions would not be effected by change of hardware
Is this confirmed? Because I have 8.1
Pro. So my upgrade is W10 Pro
W7 Ulti "technet" to 8.1 pro.

Yeah... after reading these two pages, this is exactly why I am going to be waiting >3 months before I upgrade. They need time to polish everything before I even touch it.

you have to upgrade via the windows update method to get your free key, it seems like.

which is a PITA if you have slow downloading internet :/

I decided to take a gamble and decided to see if manually downloading the update tool and running it with my TechNet 7 Pro key and it ate it up like a fat kid loves cake. I has the Windows 10 now. Maybe if I become a little less lazy, I'll do a clean install. For now, I'm going to play with it. Huzzuh.

can you do it your way, without needing a huge windows update on the system to be upgraded?

Not exactly however, it was probably the most painless Windows upgrade I've ever done.

I got the logo on my windows 7 for the past 3-4 weeks to upgrade to win10 which I'm not going to do right now...
Nothing in life is free or totally free so there is a catch somewhere that they are not telling

I'm sure that Micro$oft after a few months or a year will ask you to pay (~$100/200) for you to continue using W10 or they will start making you paid for updates like Apple does...?

Then it will be to late to revert back to your windows 7/8 unless you still have the original DVD or key...

All I know is that I don't care that much about it as for the past 5-6 years I don't play PC games anymore ~5-10 hours/years maybe? & I never liked playing online games (multiplayers) & never will

Maybe because games are so boring now a days?
Sure they have better graphics but where is the fun now?
Maybe Half-Life 3 will be good if they ever doing another one?

Anyways If I ever do upgrade to W10 later on I will just buy the DVD instead of an upgrade now & paid later kind of thing...

You do realize Apple hasn't charged for updates in years, right? They actually stopped charging for even x.0 OS updates long before Microsoft. You can thank Apple for Windows 10 being a free update in the grand scheme of things.

I'm now activated.

Update was uneventful..So far so good!

can anyone *CONFIRM* 100% how to reinstall with a 7/8 key at a later date?

Its not so bad if you have to reinstall 7/8 then upgrade again, but it'd be nice to know if our keys get upgraded and can be used for either OS at a later date for clean install.
Finally got the answer I've been waiting for, and Others have too.

Got it on 1 notebook out of 3 systems I own, not impressed, actually I cancelled the reservation on the other laptop and the desktop. My main reason would be the fact that "Settings" are not displayed at all, their tab is auto-killed by whatever bug Microsoft has not fixed for months.

Also I disliked having an icon for open apps twice, both in the tray and in the task-bar.

Hi, the best way to reinstall with a upgrade key is to reinstall windows 8 with you w8 key then upgrade to w10.

Edit , i tried and it's the only way, w10 wont accept the key you will get a error

Your W8, W7 key will change to an W10 key after 30 days. That's what it appears to say. Have to wait to try it. So you will not have to install W8,7 then upgrade in the future. Just a clean install of W10

You will lose your W8, W7 key after 30 days

Yes, while we think you will love all the features of Windows 10, you will have one month after upgrading to revert back to the previous version of Windows on your device."

Apologies, maybe it was specified already, but when is the official date (not paper lunch) of Retail launch for Windows 10 ?? I cannot find anywhere the physical box for Windows 10..

that only talks about reverting, not that the key is 'consumed'

Tested!
I got my w10 key with magic jellybean key finder
then, reinstalled with usbkey and used that key and it reactivated straight away.

Seriously, still no nVIDIA drivers for Windows 10 for older integrated video cards. I have an 1920x1200 17" laptop and can use only 1600x1200 res because of no existing nVIDIA drivers. Not to mention sound drivers...

No reason to use magic jellybean
