I would throw that install media as far as I can, then download a new iso here. Leave the media creation tool alone and do the direct iso download, then use Rufus to write the image to a usb stick.

That's not how TCP works.
Spot on. If Bill were correct the internet would've congested and died a long time ago

Looks like what's happening here is that your machine is acting as a Windows Update seed because you have ample bandwidth and high uptime? To reduce strain on their servers and make the update process faster, Windows Update has had a P2P mechanism very similar to BitTorrent since Windows 10.
The default setting is to share to other pcs on the local network. Unless OP have connected his computer directly to the internet without a router, or changed this setting manually, WU will never upload outside your local network.

Last time I tried the ISOs from MS would not work, but a stick from the media creation tool did.

Maybe a regional issue? I have never run into any issues with Windows isos direct from MS. But that tool have given me broken install media before. Probably just "luck" of the draw to be honest

Yeah, I don't disagree. I'm in the US. I was pretty miffed because I couldn't believe the ISOs were broken and stuck with trying to make them work for way too long.

I also wondered how people with just one (disabled) Windows computer are supposed to bootstrap a solution if only the image making Windows software works. Luckily I had a couple more.

FWIW I have only encountered a broken install media in Linux once, with Ubuntu.

:( I know its not. Sadly, it seems neither you nor Calenhad bothered to read and understand what I said, even though you quoted me. :(

I clearly said, it (adding bold underline this time),

could certainly look like an endless loop to some

Please remember we aren't all here to attack MS.
I understand that. But there definitely are some who readily take every opportunity to blame MS, Windows, Defender, name-any-MS-branded-product, every chance they get - even when there is no concrete evidence the fault belongs to Microsoft. I will defend anyone with the same vigor when accused unjustly.

It can be any of that. The point is that Microsoft should under no circumstances go into an endless loop without wait between iterations.
This is what I mean. You admit it can be any of that, but then turn right around and chastise MS for not being perfect 100% of the time when you admit it might not even be Microsoft's fault.

One case out of 10s of millions of users and look at how MS is being condemned.

I have to wonder if those complaining are just complaining to complain, or did they actually do anything about it - like report the problem to MS via the Feedback Hub? Since this clearly is not wide spread, Microsoft may not even be aware this has happened.
