Just checking in. Is the right click menu still trash? I know there's a registry edit to revert but I don't wanna bother.

Otoh what's the experience with touch input. Still half assed like W10? For example in W10, right click menu with touch input spreads the options but can't be scrolled with fingers. You have click a small arrow to choose properties for example.
Right click menu had some changes over the years, but it's still really common to use that registry edit for the older menu.

I have a touchscreen laptop on 11, i'll have to charge it and see if it works, bump this thread again tomorrow and i'll find out for you.

I didn't used Cortana. I switched it off to autostart. I didn't use Bing even one time. Instead of driving this kind of marketing Microsoft should make better code i..e. for MSI Mainboard users. In the days of Windows NT 4.0 it was the same sh*t. MS brought out a service pack and smashed the hole TCPIP queue. Originally one should not have applied a even Service packs.

I'm migrating to Linux. therefor i code all my worksheets and other software from MSO towards LibreOffice. Checking all the software i need for their availability on Linux and the workflow there. MS lost me as a future user of a possible Win 12. My new rig im right now building is designed to have only linux working hardware.

It's big money in the enterprise world.
They don't care about users data in the way people think of it, they want data on how people ask questions, how long they spend doing certain tasks, what language got them the most positive results

For them, if they can train an AI like chatGPT to do their basic tech support for them it's worth millions of dollars every year in cost savings let along using it for new products - we may never know what their end goal is, because often these things veer off into an unexpected direction.

Nvidia trained up DLSS not to help gamers, but because it helped their enterprise consumers - if you're rendering a disney movie with a bunch of Nvidia supercomputer clusters, the option to have it done in 1/4 the time with minimal quality loss would be absolutely worth it, we just got the leftovers and they let the nitpickers in the public find the problems for them.
Imagine what a camera company would pay for the tech to make a low res camera take better quality photos by upscaling them on the fly... oh wait modern smartphones all do that.

Business in general is only about making money.

Btw. i don't take pictures with a smartphone. My smartphone is laying at home all the time. And if i want to take pictures i have a Lumix full sensor camera. I own a smart tv and that is not connected to the Internet. Also i don't own a console (XBox, Playstation,...). I don't need to play all that gimmicks to feel a certain level of self esteem. ;)

Kinda?
Have some samples

Common file context menu (seems to be more or less the same for pretty much most file types, be they executables, documents, music or video files):

The cut/copy/paste/rename/delete buttons that appear at the top can also appear at the bottom, depending on where the context menu pops up

You can still access the old-style menu through "Show more options", but that's an extra click.

Ah, it's not altering anything in the browser but rather an annoying popup

C:\Windows\Temp\MUBSTemp\BGAUpsell.EXE

View attachment 311231

Someone got told to get more people using the Bing AI now that cortanas dead and did something desperate to meet their quota.
It'll probably be gone within a month, with their track record for removing the things that make bad publicity like this has
Yeah, this is stupidly shady activity for microsoft. It borders on unethical.

but it's still really common to use that registry edit for the older menu.
This! Absolutely and highly recommend this!

press and hold is the right click equivalent, opening when you release

once the menu is up, you press and hold and can swipe up and down and it highlights the currently selected item, so you can see it past your finger.

Press and hold in the center of the menu and moving my finger 'off' the menu still worked, so i could go up/down and see the options without my finger in the way

TLDR: a handful of extra settings to adjust whether audio should be recorded when using the Snipping Tool and autosave for Notepad.

This isn't shipping yet to the stable updates channel of Windows 11, just to Dev and Canary, and only some of those insiders, but it's nice stuff nonetheless.

Is the interaction same for old menu if you revert it back with regedit? @windwhirl has posted excellent pics of the menu and I may sound like an old fart but I envision the new menu's gonna mess with my muscle memory.

One thing I forgot to mention: if you have custom items in your classic context menu, they need to be ported to the new Windows 11-style context menu. For example, WinRAR did port the context menu options so that they'd work with the W11 menu, but I have other stuff like 7-zip or Bulk Rename Utility that doesn't show up in the new menus, only on the classic ones.

I accidentally moved to the classic style with a debloat tool

I have no idea what you mean by 'interaction the same' - vs what? These items tend to vary depending on the installed software

How do I make two separate accounts on the same Windows 11 install? Like I tried making a Standard User account for my work account, so I can keep my games (the Admin account) separate from my work stuff. When I logged into the Standard account I made to download Zoom and stuff for work I noticed my GoG games showed up on the desktop... I don't want either account to have any crossover programs at all... is this even possible or am I out of luck?

That seems like you have account-sync enabled somewhere. Did you link a local account to the MS Store? Doing so automatically enables account-sync.

anything installed to 'all users' will have shortcuts appear on every account

i don't remember GoG games giving me an option during the install process to be for one user or all users... same goes for when I install Zoom, etc. :/ strange

also, I have to return my work laptop for store credit, it turns out virtual backgrounds in Zoom are not supported by the hardware of my new laptop.

ugh life is annoying the crap out of me today.

also, I have to return my work laptop for store credit, it turns out virtual backgrounds in Zoom are not supported by the hardware of my new laptop.
How does that work? Are they requirements of certain GPU's, webcams ?

Googling it basically says "any dual core CPU" can support them

I have no idea. I know my gaming desktop it says I can use virtual backgrounds on Zoom, on my old 8th gen dual core Intel laptop it worked, on my chromebook it will not work (it will allow for a little circle but people can still see behind you some, so no go for me), and on my new laptop with a 2023 intel cpu it won't work. just says "hardware requirements not met"

very annoying. i would use Microsoft Teams, but my employer insists on using Zoom, I have no idea why, its garbage

That sounds very bizzare. Stinks of some kind of "DRM" shenanigans if I didn't know better...

From what I understand, the reason Chromebooks have the circle for Zoom and not a full virtual background is because Zoom states Chromebooks don't have the power needed for virtual backgrounds. Which was probably true for older Chromebooks, still eh a shitty answer if you ask me.

There is absolutely no reason it should not work on a brand new 2023 Intel N305 CPU though. I have no idea on that one. I even plugged in my 1080p webcam to see if maybe it was just the built in webcam that would not work with virtual backgrounds, and nope wouldn't work for either one. I had the latest Intel inf drivers and graphics installed and windows 11 was fully up to date. so I have no idea.

but yeah going to try an AMD APU laptop next... really wish I could get a decent Zen 4 APU at like $399. damn you AMD for pairing it all with dedicated graphics.

Guess it came with the Windows update (KB4023057) it installed yesterday. Like I am trading in my PC for a Microsoft Surface. Sure, lol.

Suggested content. I think it happens if you sign in with a MS account. Annoying, yeah. You can block the notification though, I think.

On enterprise there is a gpedit key to block it entirely. But that doesn't apply to most users.
