X299 Owners Club

Hi,
Yeah x299 systems only issue is it's in storage
I just preferred z490 because it's a lot better gamer.
Right! See I have tasks that require RAM bandwidth so dual channel just will not cut it, or I would have gone the Ryzen 3900x/5900x route. This is why I had been considering the Threadripper platform. Not for the cores, because a 12 core CPU is all I need, but for the RAM bandwidth. Might still make that move as I'm now getting deeper into research that has been in the works for the last several years.

Hi,
Yeah x299 has a lot of pci-e lanes to so fast m.2 storage abundance has lots of possibilities
Hell I'm just not getting into large m.2's with my first couple of 4tb bought just recently.
To bad m.2 prices are suppose to explode in a bad direction this year.

My z490 is full I suppose I get one more on it's dimm_2 card haven't noticed ? and so is my laptop I guess is all that matters atm.

I haven't gone that route yet. When companies bring TLC drives in 6TB or 8TB variants for under $250, then I'll get into it. Until then hard drives will remain my mainstay as non-OS storage.

Hi,
Yeah backups will always be on hdd
I've got 3 - 500gb sata ssd's I'm probably going to start using for os system images on z490 they're just collecting dust atm.
I'm using one for larger files mostly movie transfers to my laptop after upgrading them with better files seeing usb sticks are so slow at it.
Just need to look into faster enclosures maybe one with m.2 connection to hehe

I should join. I have an i9 10900X, ASUS Prime X299 Edition 30 mobo, 32gb / 3600MHz ram,... etc

Hi,
Yeah only bummer of 10x series is ms broke -adaptive voltage
Anything set is ignored if to low last I read so on to PL adjustments and likely watchdog violations hehe

That's been my experience too. I have to force settings in the BIOS.

Got some new X299 toys!

AsrockX299Extreme4&i9-7900X&DDR4-3600.jpg

Complete with a Core i9-7900X and 32GB of DDR4-3600 with 16-16-16-36 timings. Currently running at 4.2ghz with a 4ghz all-core.

I'm cooling it with the following bit kit,

With the current OC, this AIO keeps the temps below 80C under Prime95. Not too shabby. @freeagent I was tempted by a Thermalright, but this one had great reviews and a nice price($75 shipped).

Hi,
Yeah 7900x that brings back some delid memories hehe
Looks like the cpu power cable has a hard on

Wow! You did that to one? Colour me impressed. :rockout:

I'm going to refrain as this one gives a solid OC without any fuss or a massive amounts of heat like my old 10920X.. Thinking I'm still going to get a 9920X sometime in the next few months.

:laugh::roll: Can't unsee that now...

Hi,
Yeah I got some nasty images of silicon lottery work
I had to redo mine their delid didn't last 4 months
Damn hit me up nice 9940x over here.

Hey guys I just picked up this puppy:
Mobo/X299/ Asus Strix
CPU:Intel I9 7940X 14c/28t
Ram:64 Gb DDR4 2133 Ecc Ram
All in all I believe It didn't cost me that much for all of this I payed 350€.......dude have all the boxes and told me that he worked on this machine some rendering for 3-4 years and said that ecc ram working with this/ older bios and yeah I just turn on the machine and everything working fine....now I need to install windows and all other things....so plenty things to do.....

Nice find! Going to OC it?

Well ATM maybe just a tiny OC because I am going to use my old AIR cooler from X79 platform but definitely going to play with OC voltages and undervolting as this mobo have plenty options

What cooler? I can help you dial in a good OC for that CPU that will not heatsoak your cooler.

Some Xigmatek 'tho I mounted 2 fans on it it' should be fine it was serving me really well with my old Xeon 2697 V2.....but now atm I am installing and preparing system still didn't put this machine in the case and I am just using some small simple old AMD cooler and even with that temps are good on stock

When do you people think this platform will become obsolete? I'm planning on upgrading sometime next year.

Not for a few more years yet. All of the CPU's are officially supported still and are compatible with Windows 11. Additionally, even when the X299 platform goes unsupported, it will still be relevant for a few years after that.

So if you have one and your worried about support, don't be. You're still good. If you're worried that your CPU's will not perform well, also don't be there are upgrade options unless you're 10th gen. If you have a 7820X at least, you'll be good for a while.

In reality obsolete is a relative term and apply for each of us differently.....for example I was still using daily my X79 platform and for my needs that platform was sufficient...it was working just fine under the W11 I was playing all games on 1440p or 4k 60Fps didn't find anything that didn't work for me....but yeah sure some people always wants latest and greatest and there is nothing bad in that....

Just a little tweaking and I get this CPU-Z result

7940x_standard.jpg

Not that far away from Ryzen 5950.........

Hi,
Win-11 compatible.

Likely win-12 but then again anything without e voodoo cores won't either hehe

12 likely will not support hyper threading.

Update......

My gosh this platform is a heaven for tweaking so after few days of playing with a CPU speed and voltages I settle my OC clocks by individual core speeds so my speeds goes from 4Ghz to 4,4Ghz depend of the cores on very low V that goes from 1v up to the 1.095V on fastest cores also I raised my Reg ECC memory on 2666Mhz and tight a bit timings.......Temps are pretty good considering that I am using "smaller" air cooler with 2 fans to cold this 14 headed beast so in real torture tests like Cinebench 24 or Aida stress test temps are in mid 80c on most of the cores 'tho some cores touching the 90c still far away from throttling........in gaming this CPU is chilling mostly around 50c-60c.....here bellow in attachment some results.......
