After months of unofficial information, Microsoft today has finally announced the Xbox 360 Elite game console. Corroborating on all previous information, the Xbox 360 Elite will feature a 120GB hard disk drive, up from 20GB in the 'Premium' console and an HDMI output for connection to high-definition televisions. The new upgraded Microsoft system will be easily distinguishable from the current Xbox 360 consoles by its color- the Xbox 360 Elite will come in a premium black finish for the console, wireless controller and Xbox Live headset. Additional Xbox 360 Elite accessories, such as the black Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, Xbox 360 Play & Charge kit and the Xbox 360 rechargeable battery, will be available separately. Xbox 360 Elite will have an estimated retail price of $479.99 and is expected to begin arriving in U.S. stores on April 29. For existing Xbox 360 owners who simply want to upgrade their hard drives, the detachable accessory will be sold separately for an estimated retail price of $179.99.

arr crap i was hopping 65nm, i hate fake rumours

wonder if i can buy the faceplate then my 360 will be all black :rockout:

why hasn't a third party manufacturer there own hdd xbox caddy?

I *think* because the HDD is formated in a special way. And using the same method of formatting it is probably prohibited due to some license or shit.

oh well i guess we could just hope for some underground group to make it possible.

The reason there are no 3rd party xboxs hd is they have a special bios altho recently someone has been able to flash a specific brand and model of 2.5 sata drive to work in a 360 the bios is what allows ms to "lock" the hd so u cant run 3rd party shit and inject 3rd party code hence the reason the mod chips go on the dvd drive since the main 360 board has remained impervious to hacks altho you can read and write to your hd with 3rd party software by hooking your hd up to a sata connection on your mobo or buying there usb adapter which you can pick up At the local best buy

That was one hell of a run on sentence there :). I was hoping these would have 65NM or hell, even 45nm cpus :(. Oh well. My 360 is working fine, so I cant see me going and getting the elite. The Component hook ups work great for my hdtv (not as good as HDMI, but right there with it) and of course optical audio is great with my surround sound. So Ill be satisfied for now. Im sure, when I will need to get one, I will and they will be alot cheaper. However, Im thinking the black accessories Ill get and maybe the HDD.

LOL at that. quoted for redundancy!!

i prefer my original xbox hardrive :)

imo they should have just waited and released this in the first place! now every1 who had the premium is going to want black or the 120gb or the hdmi....so every1 will want something from it.

For now all Xbox 360s have the same parts, CPU, Etc. The only difference between the Elite and the Pro/Core is the 120GB HD and HDMI (and black obviously). So it should be as hot, if not hotter, than the current Pro/Core Xbox 360s.

I'm probably just going to get a black Xbox 360 Case for mine and a larger Hard Drive. HDMI isn't that much better than Component/VGA IMO. It can still deliver 1080i. Even though I have a 1080p HDTV, I'm still not complaining.

Here's a guide on how to add a larger HD. You need a 2.5" LapTop HD and a 2.5" Enclosure, then format to Fat32.
