Xbox Outsells PlayStation in the US by $200 million in June, Sets Hardware Sales Record

As usual the more powerful console sells more, despite the claims of console fans that "specs don't matter". That being said I still think this is rather odd, Xbox doesn't really have exclusives anymore, if I were to buy a console it'd be a PS5 simply because I know there are going to be games only available on that platform.
This isn't about better console, this is all about availability. I bet ya MS paid a hefty price to get priority chip allocation from AMD.

I'd take that bet. There's no way that wouldn't be public knowledge.

I mean, that's nice for Microsoft and all, but I can imagine this is because of PS5 availability.
Was going to mention the same thing.

Xbox Gamepass Ultimate is a great deal. I'm loving my Xbox series X so far. I think Microsoft did the worst job ever naming and marketing it, but it is really good. Everything I've played so far runs buttery smooth at 4K. It makes barely any heat or noise. The load times are next to nothing. Instant resume is probably my favorite feature so far. I turn on the console and I'm back where I left off in less than 30 seconds!

It's all about the games, and Sony has fallen asleep at the wheel again after a succesful generation. The PS4 exclusive library was total garbage compared to the PS3, and sony seems more interested in censoring japanese games then producing anything of value.

Well PS4 had a much much better exclusive library than the Xbox One had. Xbox basically had what, 3-5 AAA titles?

Roles seem to have switched this generation with Microsoft buying up studios by the handful.

That's just speculation, I fail to see why AMD would decide to help one of their partners in the detriment of the other. I mean you do realize that if MS gets priority that also means they'll get less money from Sony.

*shrug* Your assertion was more power = more sales. If closer comparisons or more counterexamples are needed,

This was about Xbox outselling PS, nothing more nothing less. And yes, typically the more powerful console attracts more buyers and this trend goes as far back as the 70s and 80s not just the past few generations. Well, back then it was more about features rather than just raw computational power but the concept is the same, the more technologically superior the consoles the more likely to be successful.

Unfortunately (or rather fortunately) I have him on ignore.

TEAM PC FTW! :shadedshu: :p

While I voted PC+Playstation, I'm also a Nintendo owner. XBox however, is not allowed in my home, at all..

Realistically speaking, I think another aspect of it is due entirely to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate being usable across both PC and Console, in some cases, the same games even, and with PC parts being SOL due to miners/scalpers and Xboxes being the next closest thing, it's mostly a no-brainer to just chill on Xbox and play games that allow syncing between the two (Play Anywhere games or games with cross-save functionality).

If it wasn't for miners and scalpers, I think PS5 would have coasted to another victory lap, with most Xbox players instead being on PCs given the increasing effort of MS to focus gameplay development on PC with Xbox support and many games being jointly available across both platforms for 1 cost. Heck, that was what the initial death-cries of the Xbox fanbase were due to MS shifting priorities towards PCs with Xbox Game Pass and Play Anywhere.

On the other end, it really doesn't help Sony that their exclusives are lacking, and they're reversing their stance of being the mostly uncensored console (from the PS2/PS3 era), trading places with MS on that front (MS kind of allows it now, when they used to be somewhat conservative in the OG/360 era; notably in JRPGs that both systems got). They made a bad bet that they could coast off MS' shift towards PC gaming with Xbox as a side-grade/gateway, and were caught off-guard by multiple events coinciding at once.

Except, playstation outsold Xbox worldwide, this is the first time xbox has outsold playstation in the US this gen, but world wide, playstation almost doubled xbox sales

Games pass is the key to the success

I cant believe that anybody can say that reason is Sony's lack of exclusives when Sony has launched multiple exclusives and great ones this generation Spiderman Miles , Demon souls , Rift apart , Astros playroom and Returnal what high level exclusives this generation Xbox launched, and while if i have to chose one console it would be Sony i still owned and i still own x360 and xbox one and i will buy xbox series x.

Can always tell the guys into kids into waifu anime junk when you see this..

I ain't a fan of Sony for a lot of things but this ain't it... Just a bunch of mad little boys upset they can't see Jill valentines underwear in her "skort"... Etc... Etc

I'm still waiting for Sony to release more PSP games.

Leave Waifu's out of it!

On a serious note. If anything the Xbox is dragging as much as Sony is, if not worse. Just look at Forza, usually the first thing releasing for next gen was Forza Motorsport, this gen we will have Horizon 5 instead, which basically uses tuned up FH4 engine (RT added in showcase mode only). And Horizon 5 releases when? In November? If anything it's Sony that actually managed to deliver actual "next-gen" exclusive titles within the first 9 months from the launch.

When at times a 300 gpu costs 2000. Consoles breaking sales records does not surprise me. I think both consoles are too big and ugly.

This stat CHANGES EVERYTHING!

I was recently able to snag a Series X from a BBuy drop. Really enjoying it, and I can sell off my launch week Xbox One to a friend, and move my Scorpio Edition One X to the upstairs TV that is only 1080P. That's the perfect place for that Xbox now.

I also sub to Gamepass Ultimate. It's really nice to be able to play games on my PC, but if I want to plop down in front of the TV and play there I can do so. With the Series X now I don't have to deal with long load times and such. It operates so fast and so like a PC now that I can just sit down and game wherever and whenever I like.

And seriously, how does the PS3 at 720p render games sharper then 1080p consoles years later? That doesnt even make any sense.
Some ps3 games run at 1080p

I still think sonys been dead in the water since ps3 considering one of the next gen ps5 games is a reamster and honestly the fact the xbox supports the pc is amazing it means my friends and I don't all need the same device most of the time. and considering the series x supports almost every game released on any xbox console I would def pick it over the ps5 not to mention DEV mode

Dead in the water?
PS3 - 87.4m sold
X360 - 85.8m
PS4 - 115.8m
Xb1 - 50.2m
PS5 - 10.01m
X/S - 5.93m
These numbers don't say "dead in the water"
I think pure sony fanbase sells consoles on it's own not to mention most asian countries will be predominantly sony. I reckon it'll end up pretty close this gen, both machines are pretty similarly specced, the differences aren't really much to harp on about but you just know fanbois will. Going to wait until the hype dies down a bit and just buy both again.
