lol how is it sad? That we have better components on the cheap? I mean, I recently built the Xeon build here mostly cause I was curious.
Sad because they were the real deal for all of those people that couldn't afford to get into HEDT when it was a thing, and get all of that for cheap. Better gaming performance thanks to larger cache in comparison to their consumer counterparts. So much different SKUs for each platform to choose from, the overall availability of chips that were so rare and expensive, I could go on. The nostalgia is real, the enthusiasm never left the field. And enthusiasm never ask for the price, so it's OK I guess.

I mean even here in Brazil I got a B450 + 3600 + aftermarket cooler for R$560.

True, I got the 2666v3 + P9 + aftermarket cooler for about R$340. Which is considerably less but not savings I'd recommend (especially with how often those chinese X99 mobos die).
Sure, the low low price of admission is great if you rly can't afford paying more, but it's not savings I'd advice if you can help it.

PS: it's not just the cap on single core performance, they're also very limited when it comes to RAM speeds as well.

EDIT: Talking like that, it seems like a lot. But R$1 is roughly equal to USD$0,20. So the difference we talking about is 40 dollars. And 40 dollars is not a lot of money, unless you're really struggling for money. And let me tell you, I live in Brazil. And we have a lot less money than you do lol. And still, 40 dollars is not that much in the grand scheme of things. Especially when you start thinking about graphics cards.

While I agree that Ryzen Systems get more and more competitive there are still some REALLY good deals for old Xeons out there which, for budget gaming systems, are hard to beat..... I mean, for less than 150€ CPU/MB/Ram? And you can chose between the V3 series (possible to turbo-unlock if you dare modifying the bios and have good cooling) or the V4 series which runs a lot cooler than the V3 series.

Just two examples I found "quickly" (just search and used two of the first which popped up) which I'm now actually thinking of using to upgrade my wifes old system (still a good old OC-ed 2500k in there which just uses a bit too much power for what it does - the xeons will run a lot cooler and smoother and less issues with Ubisoft where The-Division always has issues if you don't force a seperate threat onto a fixed core of the 2500k) :D ... great, thanks for tempting me into spending some money :D .

While yes my 5950x beats my 2x 2698v4 build in total CPU processing, it doesn't have the memory bandwidth, amount of threads, or amount of PCI lanes that I need for other things. Sure a Threadripper would meet those requirements but not at the cost I need.

This is the reason I have stayed on X299.

Also the reason I stay on X299..
Haven't been able to afford x299. x99 is just easier for me and 2011-3 has strong enough options. If only the power draw was a bit lower.

see my text - exactly what I said. For whoever feels uneasy about modding the bios go for the V4 versions, but else turbo-unlock on the v3's is nice.

But in general the V4's run more cool because of the node it's build on

So for everyone who wants a cheap, easy to build fire-and-forget system without playing around/modding too much the v4's offer slightly better performance compared to not-modded v3's with lower power draw and heat output :)

I still run X79 2667V2 in one of my systems. It still runs everything I need it too. Granted, X99 was the first platform to employ M.2/NVMe and that alone is a compelling reason to prefer it.

I sold my x79 Classified with a 1680v2 to someone that's going to use it as a multipurpose server two weeks ago. Seen the build pics and boy are they taking care of it, giving it the love it deserves.

I'm sad to report I've sold the white xeon PC. Maybe 3 computers was too much lol

Might build another one. Maybe with a RX 6600 at least.

LOL! I have 6PCs, 2 laptops and 4 tablets... Just saying..
Not like me 1 laptop that I got from National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) which still works given it about 18 years old still on ide hard drive with 60gb storage, 1 tablet, my current xeon setup (many revisions on upgrades) PS2 with 120gb ide hard drive, soft modded og Xbox, PSP 1000 with dark Alex m33 firmware and lastly my first Pentium 4 PC I bought with my own money no longer with me, Still have old parts from it. But have repaired alot of laptops, pc and other devices which I have lost counts over 11 years since 2006 but retired about 7 years ago. So yeah I'm old but a sucker for old retro hardwares
