Xeon Owners Club

That is good price for that board. I bought this Fujitsu workstation last year. Because I have never owned two physical CPU computer. It was about 200€ with one 6 core E5 Xeon, 16GB reg. mem, highest Fujitsu power supply and Quadro K2200(750Ti 4GB). I first I bought two 2660V4's and learned afterwards when these were already on the way, that this motherboard has no support for V4->it won't boot even with V4 microcodes installed. Then I bought those two 2666V3's and now I have those two 2696V3's. So I have eight 2011-3 processors now. Forgot that I have at work my 2678V3 with all core turbo mod. This is if I need to test something in virtual machine and for other stuff I do.

CPU list:
-Xeon E5 2620V3 (6 core)
-2 pcs Xeon E5 2660V4 (14 core)
-2 pcs Xeon E5 2666V3 (10 core)
-2 pcs Xeon E5 2696V3 (18 core)
-1 Xeon E5 2678V3 (12 core)

Bios mods I want to try:
-Flash descriptor removal->this should work
-If I can do something about Signed bios update, if it even affects to flashing via external flasher->Also I want to know if there is somekind of security check on boot.
-NVME module support->now computer has to be booted from Clover usb memory. Atleast boot is automated
-Resizable BAR module
-Maybe that V3 all core turbo mod-driver->motherboard probably can't handle two of these 2696V3's with all 18 cores at 3.8GHz
-Enable/Show Intel RC Setup in bios

These Xeon's may not have best IPC performance these days, Not the fastest speeds(5GHz), but you can have lot of cores and lot of L3 cache. Still fast enough to do some things. Also interested which would be the next hot processor thing in used market of China.

I don't care about IPC, I care about workers and have alot of them. I have here the process lasso. Just trow the right amount of cores in one process and it's done. My brother loves IPC, I have make a video for him... look stress test aida64, winrar bench, and two gaming running on the screen. And have some processor to do scrolling the internet. The winrar benching with all these junk in the screen has the same score of a i5 10600 :) "that's the little piece of junk" have move the world and still working perfectly. I see these youtube videos people trying to game with 18 cores when the game loose fps with 6 cores. Some 8 cores. I see some Russian guy on YouTube comparing the 2696v3 with the 2696v4.
On the v3 he have ten cores with 3800mhz on the v4 have 22 cores barely using 20% of cpu. The wattage showing on the screen are the worst v3 116w and v4 14 watts 22cores parked waiting to go.

Well i finish upgrading my Main Rig, Dell Precision 7810. Only thing I'm waiting for is two more 8GB sticks of DDR4 memory, should arrived by Wed. Which will bring me a total of 48GB. New Vega 56 card i recently bought a few days ago, Super fast, even out performs my Radeon Pro W6600. Only thing i would like to buy is a Radeon Pro WX 8200 or WX 8100 or WX 9100 , But they're really expensive right now and i use Ebay, lowest i found them is around $650 , but the guy who is selling is willing to drop it down to 500, but meh, not doing it. If anyone here has any of the follower cards i mention above, for sell cheaper price let me know. Anyways, I'm happy with my rig and everything works great.

You do realize you're gimping your performance running dual channel, yes? Your RAM bandwidth is 50% what it could be with quad channel.
No i didn't know. How do i fix it lol

Use more dimms
ok i'm not new at this , but still confused lol. So do i switch the memory i already have and put them in different slots? Because don't forget i have 2 more coming.

Quad channel needs four dimms in to work. Like if your board has eight slots and you're only using four and it's a dual socket, that's two dimms per CPU. Dual channel.

What is being said is you might wanna fill your ram slots or at the very least read the board manual to make sure you get quad channel running. A huge benefit to Xeons is the memory bandwidth.

I have one, does that count?

It's sitting in my LGA775 tinkering rig. The platform spans from horrible Pentium 4 to decent Penryn-based Quads and was the first that I really started doing stuff with, so I have a certain fondness for it. And overclocking takes some work, because all the things are hanging together. But unlike modern BCLK-based platforms there is lots of flexibility. Throwing 450 MHz FSB on a chip meant to run at 200 MHz is quite the difference. (Like the 10x350 on my low end Celeron 440. Can't see 75% manual OC with anything from the last 10-15 years.)

Yes, it's only a quad, and not even a native one. Yes it runs on DDR2, no IMC, only PCIe 2.0... But for how ancient it is, it holds up surprisingly well.

The Xeon that gained me "entry" to the club was an X5450 modded for 775, so it's not just you. It's currently powering my Filestore.

Well i got 2 coming today and i ordered 2 more last night. So 64GB quad channel should be showing once i get it. :rockout:

Here is my Xeon machine:
Xeon E5-1607
MSI Ventus GTX 1650
Triple Channel DDR 3 Ram (12 GB)

all of this in a dell, a rare variant of said dell that supports V2 Chips (I am guessing bios update), no body on the internet seems to have a Dell Percision T3600 with the C602 chipset, but I somehow do

Servers are fun apart from their Loudness

Buy 4 sticks of matching RAM, install in the proper slots, you're golden.

With your Dell T7810, the setup is easy. You just need matching RAM. If you open you case and take pics of your setup and what RAM you have I can help you set it all up to get the most from it.

Well i got two today, one works perfectly fine, i have 40GB now. But the other one is not working. The photo below is from ebay, but I'm using a del 7810 as well. I have two more ram sticks showing up later this week. He offer to send me another one. Just seems like a bad ram stick my guess, because even when i finally fit it easy now, orange light or just not working. Again just seems like one of the sticks is bad, because the other he sent me works fine.

Ah, that's right, you have dual socket. This is going to seem like suckage, but you need 8 identical DIMMs is each of those slots. 8 x 8GB would give you 64GB, but 8 x 4GB will work too and grant you 32GB total. If you already have 2 x 16GB DIMMs then you will need to buy 6 more of those identical DIMMs to get the most from your system. Of course this applies only if you have both CPU sockets populated. If you only have one CPU, you only need 4 identical DIMMs.

So what is your current configuration?
EDIT: Nevermind, I just looked back back through the tread. Yeah you'll need 8 sticks of identical ram(4 per CPU) to get the optimal performance from that system. Otherwise performance will be disadvantaged. Also, go for DDR4-2666. Those CPU's should support it.

I have an E5 2683 V4 rig. Maximum memory speed is DDR4-2400, same as my E5 2699 V4 one.

Question: I have a z440 which can overclock unlocked xeons using the Sleep/XTU-reinstall hack (currently a 1650v3 to 4.2ghz for 3 cores), and looking to play around with more cores now that prices are at rock bottom. If I buy let's say a 2660v3 or 2680, would that be able to clock to 4.2 for at least 2-4cores (don't need all-core at high speed)? Or are the more-core xeons lower "binned"? In that case, would the 2667v3 or so a better bet? Appreciate any advice.

I've just bought a Thinkstation Xeon E3-1230v5 16GB off ebay to replace my 2xXeon E5472. It's not a huge performance improvement, but for EUR100 I've halved my power consumption and moderately upgraded my Quadro P620 to P1200 K620 to K1200 (wishful thinking! lol). I'll also keep an eye on cheap Xeon E3-1260L v5 that halves the power again. So far, prices are too high for that model, but in a year or two, they'll pancake to floor, just like my once horrendously expensive E5472s now go for the price of a cup of coffee.

I've not been able to turn in on yet: K620 used DP, K1200 uses mini-DP. Waiting for cables from Amazon to arrive.

The 2xE5472 has done a great run. From one of the most powerful systems at the time, to now being a power hog (especially the RAM), with underwhelming performance. Sad to see her go...

Question: Is this Xeon E3 Skylake-S series really a Xeon? Does Socket 1151 Xeon have anything a core-i7-67xx CPU hasnt got? Did I just buy a "rebranded" i7-67xx?

Hello people :) I have a new cpu and lots of pics I found a 2697av4, 90 bucks... my asus x99 a2 have some big problems on bios because 14 core cpu can be a little buggy but have reflashed the bios and the cpu works... so if you down voltage the cpu like the v3 cpu you can increase barely somenthing on clock some cores can clock on max turbo. Got five cores blowered to 3.7ghz on light workload. Will post some pics here

Update on my Fujitsu R940 project. Last week I was thinking which would be good cooler for those E5-2696v3's. I have several times measured that my Be Quiet Dark Rock 4 would not fit to the Fujitsu motherboard. But I tried it and I was amazed that it would fit. It blocks 1 ram slot from both sides of socket(s), but I don't have memory in them. Also Dark Rock and sidepanel has probably 1 mm of free space. So I ordered second Dark Rock. It arrived yesterday. Also 2pcs Arctic P120 fans was inside my package.

About bios programmer: 16-pin bios clip was delivered about 2 weeks ago. Programmer is on the way still->it decided to be stuck in customs for a week. Should be here today or tomorrow.

Hello,

Does anyone have an Idea if newer nvidia cards would have issues in a Dell T620?

I currently have a dell t620 with 2 cpu 128gb ram and an Nvidia P2000.

in gpuz the P2000 only shows x8@3.0. it should be x16@3.0 I also did put load with using the render test and furmark.

Anyone have ideas?

Thank you
Bill
