kudos to you for contributing so much to this thread.

now, back on topic,

i believe that the xeon is more optimized towards server application performance whereas the q6600 would be more for general home usage you know.. i think theres a benchmarking difference between the two.

sorry for my part in that,

I would say for most, the only advantage of the xeon that I would use is the lower voltage needed, and higher clock potential. But that would make it totally worth it!!!

Well it would have to impressive and cheap thats all i can say.

To move from a cpu already doing 3.6ghz to a 4ghz cpu which is only 400mhz more isnt worth spending a great deal of money on really. The scores /preformance would have to justify it.

Its nice to have that extra preformance but for general internet surfing watching movies downloading etc 4ghz x 4 is going to waste. Just uses more electricity and tbh 400mhz more doesnt give that much wow factor in games either. But its nice for 3dmark and rendering encoding etc.

To some thats enough, If I had the money I would buy one today!

Not for the 400mhz, but for the ability to overclock farther and get better results.

I enjoy the trill of pushing my procs as far as I can. I enjoy getting the best results possible, thats half the fun for me when it comes to computers.

Same here buddy im all up for the same thing.

But clock for clock say both cpus at 4ghz ok Q vs X the preformance increase would have to be a big improvement at the same clock speeds for me to even consider it.

Because for one i know i can get my quad to 4.3ghz maybe keep it there with good water cooling. But i just think whats the point might as well save the money for my next cpu if im guarenteed lower temps than im getting now.

But so far i aint seen any benchmarks that justifys it.
and if im not planning on gaming like tonight i put the C1E back on in the bios and cruise at 1600mhz with 16c temps and save on my electric.

cant argue there. :toast: It is smarter to save up some and get the next gen. But I do thought I read here, they were not to interested in going to the next level because of the prices involved at the low multi level

Well i used to run 3.6ghz all the time then i though WHY? Im just sat here typing on tpu with all this power when theres no need for it im just running up my electricity bill. I mean you could even dissable multi threading if you wanted turn fan control on so its nice and quiet cos the temps are real low. Its just so much better. who needs a 45nm chips to save energy?

It's just a higher binned chip. For us overclockers we can take that and exploit it and crack it up about as high as an Extreme chip for a fraction of the price. I'm just trying to say that going from a Q6600 to a Xeon is a waste of money.

I don't see why people get so worked up about 3DMARK scores. There is no noticeable difference between a 4GHz quad and a 3.6GHz quad in terms of gaming performance.
