XGIMI Readies Next-Gen Horizon and Horizon Pro Projectors for Home Entertainment

With more blockbuster movies hitting streaming services first as pay-per-view, home entertainment is about to get big again. You could get yourself a really large TV, but one that fills an entire wall-sized screen won't be cheap XGIMI has an answer to this, with its MoGo line of portable high-resolution projectors that let you watch movies on the go, and new Horizon line of premium home projectors. These projectors are lightweight, used LED-based main light sources that are a lot more durable and take much less power than conventional projector bulbs, and XGIMI has placed a design focus on getting the resolution right, and on portability.

The MoGo is barely the size and weight of smart speaker. XGIMI is preparing to launch its next-generation Horizon and Horizon Pro line of compact home projectors with a stellar feature-set that could include 4K UHD resolution for the Horizon Pro, and up to 2,200 ANSI Lumens projection, along with and Android TV, with access to nearly every streaming app there is. The projects also feature 16 W surround speakers developed by Harman Kardon. The Horizon Pro is designed for screens up to 300-inch (dia), and uses the company's patented X-VUE image enhancement technology. Its designers recommend the Horizon series for both high quality movies/video, and gaming. Available for pre-order from May 10 with availability from June 20, the Horizon is priced at $1,699. Interesting. For years the idea of using a projector for the rare occasion of watching a movie has been going through my head, but portability, light source durability and quite frankly the lack of high resolution support has been a non-starter for me. And I refuse to have a TV just for watching a random movie every once in a while.

I'm still waiting for the home version of using laser projection to watch video. Would still like to see this in person.

Kinda sad seeing an article about projector... and not mentioning a word whether it is a DLP or LCD based. Are the 4K true or using pixel shifting, most importantly the fan noise, keystone adjustment...

My bad. There are many LCD based techs that simply beams a light through them, I kinda compressed it too much. EPSON, Sony...

Been using projectors for over a decade, so... know my stuff about them. I am on a brink to change my current one, but the lamp doesnt die.

Nevertheless, even for a PR writeup this is so alien for consumer willing to invest into a projector.

LED cobs aren’t as bright/power dense as projector bulbs (which cost as much as cheap projectors) that are bright enough and true color enough to meet HDR standards. Optima makes an4K60Hz or 1080 240Hz DLP projector for the same price that has 3400 lumens, meaning that it doesn’t have to be pitch black with blacks walls so room reflections don’t distort colors and apparent light levels either.
