Yeston Straps a Monstrous Cooler Onto its HD 7970 PCB

After showing to the world its Radeon HD 7970 PCB with all components placed, Yeston disclosed pictures of exactly what it's going to use to cool the beast. Yeston's cooling solution uses two big (probably 120 mm) fans inspired by the design of aircraft turbofans, with 18 blades on its impeller. Such impellers with PC cooling fans aren't new, and have been used in case fans designed by the likes of Cooler Master. However, this could be the first time such fans have been used in a VGA cooler.

Underneath the frame holding the two fans is a large aluminum fin stack-type heatsink that spans almost the entire area of the PCB. A copper base makes contact with the GPU, from it, six copper heat pipes originate, conveying heat to two aluminum fin stacks, which are then ventilated by the two fans. When fully assembled, the cooler is so large that it appears to span across almost four expansion slots. Yeston is reportedly still working on improving the design. Let's hope it gets a lot slimmer than that.

Now why wasn't this cooler available on the gtx 480 ? :laugh: Although this actually looks a little like the ASUS Direct CUII cooler.

More company's need to take notes from these guys and start making making cards with extreme cooling.
I remember having a 1950xt with that came TEC cooler and it was awesome, or Sapphire's toxic series with the self contained WC loop i could really go for one of those in 7970 flavor.

.......Why on the 7970 it really isn't that hot of a card. if anything these company's should be coming out with ides on how to make single slot coolers, and keep temps in a ok range like 70c full load.

Four slots.....unless this thing can reach 2g on air then its a double back flip facepalm belly flop topped with a curve stomp. They are just asking folks to over do it with that cooler and fry something

Pass ... think I will see what MSI does with the Lighting.

But that thing looks like it takes up 4x slots .. not not use anything with more then 2 slots .

Here you have an example of a helices that do work well to cool on a copper radidor as they give a lot of air pressure design, which is what really counts:

PS: Give me the Powercolor brand secure better cooling.

Tenxu, Larger fans do provide a higher CFM at a lower RPM and noise level compared to smaller fans turning at a higher RPM level. This fan design is that of a turbofan engine...
 
whatever, this cooler is sheer bs. half the air goes past the cooling block, it makes no sense whatsoever. a waste of all the cfm these fans provide.

Yeston is a Chinese manufacturer of Graphics cards, they have been around since the Radeon x800 series.

The first GPU using these fans? Don't msi use them for their hawk cards (albeit smaller ones)
 
Holy crap that thing is huge! But no memory cooling is the biggest fail! Looks like they're taking a chapter out of XFX's cheapo cooling solutions.
 
OK then. I assume these will not be used in Crossfire, then. I wonder if it keeps the card below 50c? That might almost be worth it.
 
3 Slots and no memory cooling -_- .... I don't see a point in buying such a huge cooler for overclocking when the memory isn't even being cooled properly. Just another gimmicky looking cooler that offers nothing to enthusiasts.
