The guys over at Nordichardware got their hands on the latest Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 12MB L2 Yorkfield CPU, trying to overclock it using both air and LN cooling. The result is 460MHz FSB and 4140MHz stable clock frequency achieved with ASUS P5E3 Deluxe motherboard, all air cooling. Using liquid nitrogen, the same QX9650 CPU goes up to 5600MHz, breaking all SuperPI and 3DMark 05/06 world records. The new world records are now 37,095 points in 3DMark 05, 27,542 points in 3DMark 06 and 8.110s in SuperPI. The benchmark system consists of ASUS Maximus Formula R.O.G X38 motherboard, paired with Mushkin's fastest Redline DDR2 running at 4-4-4-5 timings with a 4:5 divider and two ASUS Radeon HD 2900 XT video cards (1120/980MHz).

are u sure about 4445 though?

my god, CMON AMD keep up

I wonder what cooler they were using on the air system.
Wish the article incuded more h/w specs.

it will be some crazy watercooled nitrogen induced cooling thing witch i wont be able to get ma hands on for another 10 years lol

nice to see ATI cards there :)

i'd call it more a surprise, breaking off from a more common Nvidea front with Intel, finally they screwed their heads on proper

nah, the last few world record breakers used ATI hardware :rockout:

I want to know what the temps are at 4+ghz on air cooling!

put it this way, they can now use their computer as a convection oven  j/k

BOUT TIME ANAW im a huge ATI fan. always have been since my first 9600. man, i miss that card. awell stuck with a 9550 in the mean time, NEED MONEYS

Quad core, yet only one of those benchmarks is multithreaded. I'd prefer to see some more multithreaded benchmarks, see its true potential. (3Dmark06 isn't a good multi threaded becnhmark, in fact, it's not even made as a CPU benchmark)

so what benchmark would you recommend??

probably something like 3ds max doing something or cinebench? dan?

but aint it just meant to be showing it breaking the world record for "those" programs?

fair enuff, id like to see other cpu oriented benchies, but as it was just showing the wr being broken for those programs i dont see a problem

I used a Thermalright Utra 120 Extreme. Any high-end air cooler will do this.

what were your temperatures?

But you don't waste lots of LN2 to do a standard Cinebench benchmark which can be done at stock if you really want information. They only did it to break world records. Its not like you'd be running the cpu at 5.6ghz for a dvd transcode.

SSE 4.1? What happened to SSE4? Also, AMDs Barcelona's have SSE4A. WTF is up with all the different variants?

well i've found my next upgrade

these different variants do my head in!! i just want to know will it fit in a p35 if i got one??
