I'm downloading the Duke now!

The last three characters of the activation code are DNF. Just coincidence? Does anyone else have the same three last characters?

Awe damn - the download has finished, but it's still showing preload for another couple of hours. Fancy getting the game in your hand, yet not being able to play it! :banghead:

You can play it in a couple of hours?!, Here in the U.S. it doesn't release for another 5 days.

Edit: I just looked at the release dates and the U.S. gets it last surprisingly, it was launched in Australia today and EU and Japan get it tomorrow :(.

Yeah, that's weird. I saw that it's released in Europe first, yet it's an American company.

This doesn't compute.

Anyway, why the hell not release it at the same time anywhere? No one likes release windows.

Although, considering most games release here first, you guys deserve an early launch, for sure.

No, we should get a simultaneous launch. Why should anyone lose out? :toast:

I put DNF in my my Steam wishlist. It would disappear from there if I bought it off Steam, like you'd expect. Yet, activating my retail copy has left it there! I guess they're seeing it as a different product, but it isn't. The software is the same and I just get a box, CD and thin manual in my retail purchase.

Everyone: to avoid spoilers, when I start playing it in an hour or so, I'll make a comment or two on how well the mechanics of the game are playing eg bugs, video settings etc, but I won't spoil it by describing the gameplay, storyline etc. I'll simply say if I find it enjoyable or not.

Meh, I have the patience of Moses. When I pre-ordered, that date was different. Then it changed. Oh well. I realyl was at first expecting to paly tomorrow, or late tonight; even though the board I am reviewing right now has been in my home for less than 24 hours, I've almost got the review done, even, so that I'd not have to worry about meeting my personal deadlines.

Now, instead, I'm running 24 hours of Prime95 on that rig. Guess I haven't run outta bubblegum yet.

STEAM kinda sucks sometimes:laugh: I think it's cumfused:

Right, Steam is now finally allowing me to play it. I'm goin' in men - wish me luck! :D

EDIT: reading the manual (yes, I do) I see it uses checkpoints rather than proper game saves. Can anyone say "console port"? Go on, I dare ya! Indeed, the manual lists the XBOX 360 controls first.

And now to play...

Ok, I'm trying to enter the code for Duke Big Package accoding to the instructions in the email from Game:

To access Duke's Big Package please follow these steps:

1/ Start your Duke Nukem Forever game.
2/ Select 'Extras' from the game's menu.
3/ Enter your unique code, as above.

The bonus content will then become available in the 'Extras' menu section.

Only problem, is that the Extras menu is missing. I've looked all round the menu, but it ain't there. :ohwell: Sounds like a patch may be needed already...

That's just for adding non-Steam games. There's supposed to be an Extras entry within the game's menu.

Hey, you can turn off motion blur! :rockout:

I know, but steam needs keys entered to unlock stuff.

In case you needed it from an "official" source:

Oops, I misunderstood the question before. Looks like some of you have beaten me to the punch here, but just in case anyone needs it, I'll put this here:

To activate the Big Package content, you'll need to enter the key directly into Steam. Open your Steam library and select "Add a Game -> Activate a Product on Steam"

If you're on the 360, you'll need to enter it in using the Xbox 360 Guide (press the Xbox button on your controller, select Marketplace, and then Redeem Code).

If you're on the PS3, go to "PlayStation Network" on the XMB, then "Account Management" then "Redeem Codes".

(Sorry about that - need to have that second cup of coffee before I allow myself on the forums, I think.)

Thanks, that worked!

Ok, time to upgrade graphics drivers. Switching from windowed mode to full screen caused the world to render mostly in black! Only a few elements showing and the game is unplayable. :shadedshu

EDIT: OK, upgrading to the latest 275.33 nvidia drivers sorted this out completely. :)

Tried various things before, but nothing would fix it: switching windowed/full screen a couple of times and rebooting.

Well, I've played it for a bit now and I can say (without spoiling it) that it is good. The action, one-liners and micky takes (listen closely, they can be quite suble) are all good and it was worth the money. :D

Slight glitch with gameplay, where the framerate will drop to around 5fps for a bit and then recover. No obvious difficult-to-render scenes or intense HD activity either to account for it. I'm sure this will be worked out, soon.

Well, it's 'slight' because it doesn't last very long and hasn't screwed up my gameplay (yet). It might hit at the wrong moment and foul up everything, who knows.

Does anyone know if they are releasing a general demo that everyone can try? Looks interesting and I remember watching my bro play Duke Nukem back in the day and pissing myself laughing.

EDIT - Qubit, when you have finished the game, how about writing us a mini review with a few screenies over in this thread? User Submitted Game Reviews......then I can praise your review, lick a bit of bummage and you can offload that orange box of yours. Ya dig

The demo is useless as it's either heavily outdated or the game simply isn't what it shoudl be.
So releasing a demo in such form is only counter productive really. Or Duke just isn't as good.

Well, it's very much alive now - and kicking ass!

The Unreal Engine 3 graphics look very good, too.
