It's just too bad that GOG can't get NOLF and NOLF 2. I would have liked to have them in my library to replay on occasion. GOG tried to get them but it was impossible to sort out the mess with the licenses. They still remain one of the most requested games on GOG. You can get the games on abandonware sites but I don't really trust those.
Works fine here. There was a thread about those. https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/nolf-1-2-useful-resources-patches-etc.285588/

Works fine for me too. I grabbed the patched installers from nolfrevival.tk.

None of the three games (NOLF, NOLF2, Contract Jack) requires a network connection. If you’re ultra paranoid you could block outgoing connections in Windows firewall however I see no reason for this.

I wish today’s game authors put more effort into clever writing. Too many games now are just a bunch of polygons plastered with high resolution textures stitched together with combat mechanics and little more.

If it's my favourite playable game character, then I think I will pick the ultimate silent protagonist (handy with a crowbar)

Still remember the snoe level from NOLF2. That was dope with driving with the snowmobile etc.

These are the ones that come to my mind in this order:

Splinter Cell's Sam "!@#$%^&" Fisher (quote from Conviction). I was utterly distraught when they didn't use Michael Ironsides for the voice over in Blacklist. The games all touch on the subject of what it's like to be a super spy without going too far (*cough*Hitman*cough*). The character creators made Sam Fisher exactly what you'd expect an American spook to be and it all just fits like a glove.
The forced personal conflict in Double Agent and his betrayal of his handler for the sake of the mission was also compelling.

Mass Effect's Commander Shepherd: Not necessarily because the character is great but that the games do such a fantastic job of making the character reflect the player.

Assassin's Creed II's Ezio Auditore: I can't really put a finger on it but I've always loved this character. He seems so genuine and likable while at the same living in a cruel dark world. I guess there's something I respect about that: the character never takes his eye off the ball. The faux Italian is a nice touch too.

Horizon Zero Dawn's Aloy deserves honorable mention here. Needs more content to make the list.
I'm intrigued because of the fact she's a clone and knows it. This is something I want to see explored more.

CJ, John Martson, Arthas, Agent 47, Leisure Suit Larry, Max Payne, Duke Nukem, and Trevor Philips, which probably the best character since his personality fits the way people play GTA.

Solid Snake. .
Yeah I took quite a while to arrive at him, but really? No nonsense, 007 styled coolness minus the British vibe, one of the best attempts for an Asian to do something Western, and some of the most unique gameplay you can find in gaming is done by him. Also, voice acting is something special too.

And what strikes me most about Snake, the guy has a history you can actually feel and live through. What transpires during MGS3 and 4 is just triple A movie material. Every game in the main story arc is a masterpiece.
