Apple today announced that it's bringing the Internet's most popular originally-created content from YouTube to the living room with Apple TV. Beginning in mid-June, Apple TV will wirelessly stream videos directly from YouTube and play them on a user's widescreen TV. Using Apple TV's elegant interface and simple Apple Remote, viewers can easily browse, find and watch free videos from YouTube in the comfort of their living room. Thousands of the most current and popular YouTube videos will be available on Apple TV at launch in mid-June, with YouTube adding thousands more each week until the full YouTube catalog is available this fall. Apple today also announced that it is offering a new Apple TV build-to-order option with a 160GB hard drive. Apple TV with a 160GB hard drive will be available tomorrow for a suggested retail price of $399 (US), while the older 40GB version will still sell for $299 (US).

Does this mean not all, but only few, verified videos will be available on it? Like no videos with - zomg - licensed music?

Meh, just throw OS X on it, and watch whatever videos you want.

In fact low-res videos look much better on a TV (SDTV) than a computer monitor.

I find it hard to believe that YouTube Quality video will look good on any HD LCD or Plasma TVs.

I also find it hard to find those same videos watchable on a CRT TV (old school TV).

While I think its a neat idea to sit in the living room and watch crappy quality youtube videos, I just dont find it viable with the current quality.

Some youtube videos have fairly good quality, and on a CRT TV, even 320x240 looks perfektly fine. Yet, I would never watch youtube on my TV...

at 320x240 maybe. No matter the res, watching on a larger screen will result in any imperfections being.. well being a lot bigger.

Unless you full screen the window (which the TV one will) you're watching it in native res on PC - and it looks bad. Watching it up-sized on a big screen will not be pleasant to look at.

don't mean to hijack a thread about Apple TV, but does anyone here have any experience with one of these, which is also known as a Freecom 35

Similar idea to Apple TV (which I'm sure has a much nicer GUI) but its cheaper, much bigger capacity and more flexible. There is a wireless version too which has a DVI output. I don't have an HDTV so its makes no odds to me.
