13th gen CPUs will be LGA 1700 socket and said memory support will be DDR5-5600

There news about Intel's urge to AIB partners to abandon DDR4 on 700 series motherboards for Raptor Lake, even if 13th gen CPUs work with DDR4 memory ( as continuation / upgrade path of 600 series motherboards. ) there might not be a Z670 motherboard with DDR4 memory support. Can't say the same with B760 motherboards. Since AMD Zen4 will only support DDR5, INTEL might follow a similar path.

I recently purchased a Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL DDR4 3200 2x32GB Memory KIT ( the DDR5 memory that is available to buy is double the price i paid for almost nothing / nothing in performance gain to my DDR4 KIT. I can't believe they ( the motherboard manufacturers aren't going to support DDR4 on z790 )

When AMD releases Zen 4 CPUs the DDR5 prices will also decrease because of the increase of demand and unit cost will become cheaper
until the launch on 13th gen INTEL CPUs.

AIBs don't have to manufacture DDR4 motherboards since there is already DDR4 supported LGA1700 motherboards ( 600 series ). If INTEL opposes for the manufacturing of the DDR4 supported 700 series motherboards, there is nothing can be done.

But z690 DDR4 motherboards will going to support raptor lake through a bios update? ( as they z690 and z790 will both use the same socket ( socket 1700 ) right?

Intel already confirmed that Raptor Lake will work with 600 Series Chipset Boards.

Raptor Lake is just ADL with a better IMC and more cache per Core. (plus even more chromebook cores...)
it should be completely identical to use like alder lake. same ram, same board.

It's technically lga 1800 but compatible with current Z690 boards. Guessing Z790 will still have DDR4 boards.... If you plan on keeping the platform 3+ years DDR5 might make sense especially if pricing gets a bit better.

NO, Raptor Lake is LGA 1700 socket.

After LGA 1700 socket, there will be LGA 1851 Socket that will support 14th Gen Core "Meteor Lake" and 15th Gen "Arrow Lake".

Sure it will "work' but won't be optimised, just like the story with Z590 & comet lake. Intel are not silly, they will "encourage" enthusiasts to part with their money for the latest products in their portfolio for desktop computing.
Raptor Lake will be Alder Lake's ironed version ( slightly better base / boost clocks, may be lower voltage / temps and slight IPC uplift at best. ), it won't be a new architecture.

Only big difference I'm expecting is the M.2 PCI-ex SSD support. Alder Lake has 16 PCI-ex 5.0 lanes for GPU and 4 PCI-ex 4.0 lane for SSD. Current M.2 PCI-ex 5.0 SSD supported motherboards steals PCI-ex lanes from GPU and disables second PCI-ex 5.0 16X port. There will probably be 20 PCI-ex 5.0 lanes on Raptor Lake, 16 lanes for GPU and 4 lanes for M.2 PCI-ex SSD. They can't increase the PCI-ex lane count, because this can only be done by increasing the pin count and socket change.

Everything I'm seeing suggests Raptor Lake will use all 1800 pins of the socket

13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs are going to be LGA 1700 Socket.

LGA 1700 and LGA 1851 is going to use the same ILM (Integrated Loading Mechanism) that's why the metal mechanism is laser etched as Intel LGA-17XX / LGA-18XX ’15R1′ and that's why LGA 1851 will retain the cooler compatibility with LGA 1700. LGA 1851 will cover the same area on motherboard, but will have a denser pin array structure than LGA 1700.

Since, 13th gen Raptor Lake CPUs are compatible with 600 series motherboards, INTEL won't produce H710 chipset, instead they will continue to use the H610 chipset.

...
It will be like when Zen went to Zen+, similar transition. It's also rumoured to have more cache... great for gaming!

Has Intel officially said what socket 13th Gen will use? If it's the same socket, DDR4 will be supported in some form. It would be stupid for Intel to use the same socket, but drop DDR4 support. Essentially making a ton of Z690 and B660 incompatible.

I don't think there has been an official announcement but there are 1800 pins in their current socket 100 not being used by Alder Lake leading to rumors that Raptor Lake will use all of them.

Are you sure about that? That means z690 motherboards won't gonna work on raptor lake? Tell me that because i just bought a Gigabyte Z690I AORUS Ultra Plus DDR4 motherboard waiting for the core i9 13900K to arrive ( should i cancel my order? ) should i return my DDR4 memory kit that i also bought a few days ago and buy the double of price DDR5 memory? i need to have feet on the ground.

Always assume forward compatibility doesn't exist until it is confirmed. If you are buying everything right now but the CPU, there is no guarantee yet a 13th gen will work on Z690 MBs. We will know soon enough. Intel might be vague on compatibility, but the release window is this year.

I bet the Intel higher ups are debating right now if 13th should have DDR4 support cut. Or they already made that decision. The silicon has been in engineering form probably since November at least. I still think it's foolish to cut support for 13th gen. We already seen leaks that 14th and on is a different socket which tells me DDR4 support is going away after LGA 1700. AMD already decided not to support DDR4 in AM5.

INTEL ALREADY confirmed it. Check the last sentence. This is from INTEL's Investors Meeting 2022.

But LGA 1700 has 1800 Pins.
If there were 1800 pins on Alder Lake, it would have called LGA 1800 not LGA 1700. LGA numbers shows how many contact pads there are on the CPU family that compatible with the socket.

Intel could still pull a fast one and only making DDR5 ones compatible. Wouldn't put it past them honestly.

Alder Lake has indeed 1700 Pins. but the socket has 1800 Pins.
