Zalman just released a new PSU series with 80 PLUS Gold certified models. The ZM1000-EBT we test today is based on a Sirfa platform and promises good performance, along with reliable operation.

Oh hey Zalman long time no see.

Pretty shoddy thing this, despite the warranty. :(

Nice to see that Zalman has released a PSU with decent quality, much watts for a reasonable price. Most Zalman PSU:s have been more or less crappy for some time. But why so damn many molex connectors? :D

This unit's performance to $ ratio is impressive.
Decent (*but only just decent :() performance for a very low cost.
I think that it's something that Zalman/Sirfa deserves to be praised for.;)

It's still a lot of money though, and you still get mediocre ripple and it's loud. It's not bad, but there are so many good PSU's out there at so many different price levels. We'll see what kind of price this gets when it's out here, but it would have to be pretty damn cheap for it to make sense IMO.

EDIT: This is from a normal desktop system point of view, it would find a very good home in environments where noise isn't important. Mining rigs, various servers...

I was only talking for performance per dollar value of this PSU.
As a PSU it doesn't say much, but we have to give credit for its low cost.
For example: i was checking past reviews for other 1000watt units, and noticed the CWT-made Corsair RM1000.
This unit had similar performance with Zalman's , but look at the price compared to this one:
170 $ !!! (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Corsair/RM1000/1.html ).
So we have to give some credit to Zalman/Sirfa, not for the overall performance of their PSU, but for their performance per $ ratio.;)

And the capacitors used in that Corsair are third tier crap instead of those first tier in this Zalman.

Second-tier actually, and these are Taiwanese capacitors, not Chinese. Considering the innards of this unit are probably going to be subjected to higher temperatures than the Corsair, I'd say they're about equal.

Am I totally blind but I thought I saw C(r)apXon caps on that Corsair? And those are absolutely third tier. Teapo is truly kinda ok, but I prefer 100% japcap PSU's, except polymers can be Chinese/Taiwanese if they're not so important (like in modular PCB or something).

edit: Ah, didn't know that CrapXon is Taiwanese, thought always that it's Chinese. But still it is far away even from second tier IMO.

WoW really looks great this PSU.. glad of see zallman gets back.. :D
