Galaxy Readying Another GeForce 9600 GT Low Power Accelerator

Galaxy is readying another variant of the GeForce 9600 GT Low Power Edition. Prior to this, the company had launched the 9600 GT Low Power, Low Profile (LPLP edition), and the 9600 GT Green Edition. Unlike the two, the new variant uses a full-height PCB, and a cooler made by Cooler Master, that doesn't span into more than one expansion slot.

The card draws all its power from the PCI-Express slot, and uses a 2+1 phase power design. Under the cooler is a 55 nm G94 GPU, with clock speeds of 600/1625 MHz (core/shader). The 512 MB of 256-bit GDDR3 memory is passively cooled under the cooler's air-flow. It is clocked at 900 MHz (1800 MHz DDR). Output is care of DVI, D-Sub, and audio-relayed HDMI connectors. It's pricing and availability isn't disclosed yet.

Galaxy Second in League for GPU Keychains

Earlier this week, news on NVIDIA selling keychains with real GPUs in them, made waves. The company has these keychains up in its online store that caters to the North American region, for US $9.99. It looks like the ploy to sell or give away GPU keychains is bigger than we thought it was. Galaxy, one of NVIDIA's largest board partners, has its own GPU keychain up for grabs, which it plans to sell in Mainland China, United States, and Japan. Currently Galaxy isn't selling it, but instead using it as a company souvenir in events held by the company. Perhaps the most interesting part of this keychain is that the GPU in it is not G98. Expreview notes that the GPU has the same area as the G94 GPU on the company's GeForce 9600 GT Low Profile Edition. We'll leave the guesswork to you.

NVIDIA Preparing GeForce 9800 GT Green Edition, Readying GTS 200 Series

NVIDIA is going ahead with the launch schedule of the GeForce GTS 200 series, that consist of products based on the current-generation G92 GPU. It is known that the GTS 240 and GTS 250 are re-branded 9800 GT and 9800 GTX+ respectively. The 9800 GTX+ SKU will officially be renamed GTS 250 on March 3. One can expect NVIDIA partners to come up with cheaper SKUs that fit into the US $ 130 range, lower than the current $150 range 9800 GTX+ and ATI Radeon HD 4850 compete in.

The GTS 240 on the other hand, will be introduced soon with a newer price-range of around $100, lower than the $120 mark the 9800 GT revolves around. This should make it more competitive against the Radeon HD 4830, which is currently winning in the price/performance figure. Additionally, the company is preparing a GeForce 9800 GT Green Edition, which carries forward the design methodology of the 9600 GT Green Edition: lowering the GPU voltage and slightly reducing the clock speeds. It is expected to carry clock speeds of 550/1375/900 MHz (core/shader/memory) against the reference 9800 GT specifications of 600/1500/900 MHz. The new SKU might be priced at a premium over the GTS 240, at around $ 120.

NVIDIA Prepares GeForce 9600 GT Green Edition

NVIDIA is preparing to release soon a special edition of the GeForce 9600 GT card with lower power consumption. Code named GeForce 9600 GT Green Edition, it will be based on the new 55nm G94-350-B1 core and work with core voltage that is 0.1V lower than the current 55nm G94 cores. This suggests reduced power consumption, and from there the name - Green Edition. Other specs of this new card remain the same as on current 9600 GTs with 650MHz core speed and 900MHz memory clock. The Green GeForce 9600 GT will come with a new device ID 0x0624, and that's the only way to distinguish it from actual GeForce 9600 GT cards that have device ID 0x0622.

NVIDIA to Cut Graphics Card Prices to Counter AMD/ATI ?

Industry watcher DigiTimes has some good news today. Apparently, disturbed by the rising presence of ATI in the discrete graphics card market, NVIDIA is planning a counter attack with the easiest way possible - cut the prices of its products. If the information is right, NVIDIA is going to slash the prices across its entire high-end GeForce GTX 200 line-up, as well as the mainstream GeForce 9800 GT and GeForce 9600 GT series. Unfortunately, the other piece of information as of when and by how much the prices will go down is unknown.
With AMD making gains in the discrete graphics card market - rising to around 40% in third-quarter 2008 according to a recent report from Jon Peddie Research (JPR) - Nvidia is planning to cut its graphics card prices in an attempt to curb further loss of market share, according to sources at graphics card makers.
AMD anticipates taking 50% of the market after reducing prices for its ATI Radeon HD 4000 series products, but to counter Nvidia has also made moves to cut prices for its GeForce GTX 200, 9800 GT and 9600 GT series.

Galaxy Prepares Low-Profile 55nm GeForce 9600 GT Video-card

Low-profile add-on cards are a boon for builders of PCs with slim form-factor, the kind which takes form of home-theater PC (HTPC) and slim business PCs. Targeting the HTPC consumer segment, Galaxy prepares a low-profile graphics card featuring the 55nm G94 graphics processor (GPU), the new GeForce 9600 GT.

From the picture it can be seen that the card comes with two connectors, the S-Video/composite and HDMI. There could be a HDMI-DVI dongle included for standard output, a digital audio input offers audio pass over HDMI for a single connection to the display making the card HDCP compliant. The GPU uses 650MHz/1625MHz/900MHz(Core/Shader/Memory) parameters. It features 512 MB memory, and a surprising 8-layer PCB to minimise electronic noise in dense environments such as compact HTPC chassis. It features an all solid-state capacitor design.

GeForce 9600GT Gets a Die-shrink, the Name Lives on

Following the die shrink from the 65nm silicon fabrication process to the newer 55nm that brings down thermal envelope and allows higher GPU parameters for the GeForce 9800 GTX to 9800 GTX+, NVIDIA apparently provided the G94 core a die shrink, the product based on this core will continue to maintain the GeForce 9600 GT brand name. The mark on a 65nm die is G94-300-A1 and 55nm die is G94-300-B1. It keeps 650MHz/1625MHz/900MHz (core/shader/mem) parameters and more overclocking headroom can be left to customers and vendor partners.
