ASUS is readying five new Eee PC netbooks for launch at CeBIT, these include the Eee PC X101CH, Eee PC 1011CX, two variants of the Eee PC 1015BX, and the Eee PC 1025C. The X101CH and 1011CX are driven by Intel Atom N2600 processor, the 1025C by Atom N2800, while the 1015BX has two variants, driven by AMD Vision C50 or C60 APUs. All of these are 10.1-inchers. Also common between these models are 1 GB RAM, 320 GB storage, and Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system. The five Eee PCs also feature ASUS Express Gate, a lean web-oriented operating system. In related news, ASUS is also working on 11.6-inch Eee PC 1225B/C, which feature larger screens, with 1366x768 pixels resolution.

Facing a two-front competition from other netbook manufacturers and the ARM tablet industry, ASUS, one of the pioneers of the netbook form-factor, is readying a new line of fashionable-looking netbooks under the EeePC Flare series. Press pictures of these netbooks got leaked to the web by Notebook Italia, which reveal EeePC Flare series to be a colorful bunch of machines that are so designed to look curvy and fashionable, breaking the "compact" design mold of today's netbooks. They will be shows at the upcoming CES event, next week.

EeePC Flare will be available in two sizes, 12-inch and 10-inch. Among these, the 12-inch 1225B will be driven by AMD Fusion platform (likely E450), while the 1225C will be driven by Intel's new "Cedar Trail" Atom platform (N2600 or N2800). The 10-incher 1025 will stick to Cedar Trail. ASUS will pack these netbooks with features such as 500 GB of storage, LED backlit 720p displays, chiclet keyboards, etc.

Active Media Products, manufacturer of SSDs and endangered species series USB drives, today released a new line of Windows 7 compatible SaberTooth S4 SATA Mini PCIe SSDs that achieve sequential read speeds up to 130MB/sec. Available now in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities, these drives are guaranteed compatible with many models of Asus Eee PC including 900, 900A, 901 and 1000 models.

The company posted a detailed Benchmark Report on the SaberTooth S4 tested on an Eee PC 1000 under Windows XP here. The benchmark results show the S4 soaring to read speeds over 120MB/sec, nearly four times faster than the default SSD in the Eee PC 1000. "We optimized the SaberTooth S4 for exceptional read performance", explained Active Media Products Vice President of Sales, Jerry Thomson. "But it also runs circles around the default SSD in write speeds, scoring about 2X faster than the default SSD in write tests."

ASUS is preparing an addition to its EeeBox family of nettops with the EeeBox EB1501. The new EeeBox is based on the NVIDIA ION platform, and is powered by an Intel Atom 330 1.60 GHz dual-core processor, aided by NVIDIA ION chipset, 4 GB of DDR2 800 MHz memory, and a GeForce 9400M graphics processor embedded in the chipset, which makes it full HD capable. On the storage front, is a 250 GB hard drive, and a slot-in DVD writer. The front-bezel holds this, alongside a 5-in-1 card reader, a couple of USB 2.0 ports, and audio connectors.

The rear panel holds four more USB 2.0 ports, D-Sub and HDMI for display connectivity, gigabit Ethernet, an antenna for the 802.11b/g/n WLAN, and eSATA. The EeBox EB1501 comes with Windows 7 Home Basic pre-installed, and is expected to be launched at the earliest after October 22. It is expected to be priced around 400 EUR.

ASUS' plans to release a desktop version of the Eeepc have been known for quite some time now. However, that's all we really did know. Now, we can confirm that at least ASUS decided to name the desktop version of their fairly successful little laptop. ASUS has decided to call it the Ebox. Said Ebox will look suspiciously like a Nintendo Wii, but will be much more like a computer. We can also confirm that the Ebox will have up to 2GB of RAM, up to 160GB of hard drive space and a slot-loaded optical drive. Current rumor has it that this machine will be powered by the diminutive Intel Diamondville motherboard family. ASUS is expected to unveil more details on the Ebox when they launch it on June 3rd at Computex 2008. It should cost somewhere in the ballpark of $200-$300USD.

EeePC is now more individual than ever with the addition of five new exciting pastel colors, ASUS announced today. The new colors are: Pure White, Galaxy Black, Blush Pink, Lush Green and Sky Blue.

ASUS has released a press release clarifying its position on the "Warranty void if removed" sticker on the bottom of the ASUS Eee PC that covers the RAM slot:

ASUS wishes to assure its customers that merely breaking or removing this kind of seal will not void the ASUS Limited Warranty.

This is great news for those looking to upgrade RAM or are checking to see if their Eee PC came with a Mini-PCIe connector. ASUS also plans on removing the sticker from all future Eee PCs.

The ASUS EeePC is getting a good share of press. It will the the first UMPC that will be offered at a reasonably low cost, unlike other industry contenders, which can cost $1000USD or more. On November 1st, America will start seeing ASUS EeePC models on store shelves, and ASUS finally confirmed prices, specifications, and release dates on the high-end $400 model. The other two models are $350USD and $300USD, respectively, and ASUS has yet to announce the specifications of those.

When Microsoft discovered that the ASUS EeePC would come with Linux as the standard operating system, Microsoft was "astounded". And so, Microsoft is working hard to create a special version of Windows Vista that's small enough to run on an ASUS EeePC. This is much better (and cheaper) than alternative ways to get Windows on an EeePC. ASUS revealed earlier that with a little bit of tweaking, it is possible to get a retail copy of Windows XP working on the small 2-8GB SSD drive, and still have enough space for applications, and posted Windows XP drivers on their website in response. Neither ASUS or Microsoft have any comment as to when we can see this special version of Vista on the laptop, or how much it will cost.
