NVIDIA Sets Up Price Cuts in Response to Radeon R9 Series

In the wake of AMD rolling out the $299 Radeon R9 280X, $199 Radeon R9 270X, and $139 Radeon R7 260X; NVIDIA is giving final touches to price cuts to several of its SKUs, beginning with the GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost. Originally priced at $149, pricing of the card could be adjusted closer to that of the R7 260X. Our review of the card revealed NVIDIA's offering to be a staggering 24 percent faster overall. NVIDIA could also lower the price of the now $180 GeForce GTX 660. All eyes, however, are on the $249 GeForce GTX 760, which is sandwiched by AMD's offerings.

There's also talk of NVIDIA developing a new SKU, possibly the "GeForce GTX 760 Ti" or "GeForce GTX 765" (likely names), to occupy the $240~260 price range. We expect this chip to be essentially an overclocked GeForce GTX 670 with GPU Boost 2.0; which may not quite go after the R9 280X, since it's already performing on par with the GeForce GTX 770. The new price cuts could take effect very soon; although DigiTimes isn't ruling out a second round of price-cuts in November, either.

Existing EK FC Water Blocks Compatible With GeForce GTX 760

EK Water Blocks, Ljubljana based premium water cooling gear manufacturer, is pleased to announce that the existing EK-FC series water blocks are compatible with the majority of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 based graphics card officially launched yesterday. Because the GeForce GTX 760 is based on a GK104 GPU, the very same GPU used on the GeForce GTX 680, -670 and 660 Ti graphics cards majority of graphics card manufactured have simply re-used it's existing - either the GTX 670 or GTX 680 - circuit board design. The reference design graphics cards are as well based on the older GeForce GTX 670 reference design circuit board (NVA-P2004).

As a result a lot of these graphics cards can be used with either the EK-FC670 GTX or EK-FC680 GTX series water blocks. In order to simplify the search for suitable and compatible water block EK has added more than 20 different GeForce GTX 760 graphics cards from various manufacturers to EK Cooling Configurator database and compatible graphics cards are being added to the list on daily basis.

GeForce GTX 760 Last 700 Series SKU for 2013?

NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTX 760 could be the company's last GTX 700 series retail desktop SKU, at least for this year. A leaked slide by the company lays out how this year's three new GTX 700 series SKUs pretty much seal the product stack. It reveals that GeForce GTX TITAN will remain NVIDIA's flagship graphics card throughout the year. The thousand-dollar single-GPU card is based on the GK110 silicon, with 2,688 CUDA cores, and 6 GB of memory. The GeForce GTX 780, introduced this March, replaces the GeForce GTX 680 on the product-stack, even at its much higher launch price of $650, compared to its predecessor's $500. The GTX 780 has no competition from AMD at its price-point.

The slide also reveals that the GeForce GTX 770, which was launched late last month, will replace the GeForce GTX 670 from the stack. Based on the GK104 silicon, it features 1,536 CUDA cores, and 2 to 4 GB of memory. Given that it has a lot in common with the GeForce GTX 680, albeit with higher clock speeds, GPU Boost 2.0, its $400 pricing surprised us. The GeForce GTX 770 outperforms AMD's HD 7970 GHz Edition, and is generally priced on-par. The only definitively faster AMD card is the $1100 HD 7990 "Malta," which makes the GTX 770 the king of its segment.

ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini Launched

ASUS today announced the GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini, a compact high-performance graphics card designed primarily for small form factor PCs with mini ITX motherboards. The dual-slot card measures just 17cm and features the NVIDIA GTX 670 GPU for DirectX 11.1-compatible gaming. The reference GTX 670 measures 24.13cm, for comparison.

Small form factor PCs based on mini ITX motherboards are a popular choice for gamers and home users. Their compact cases are much easier to transport to LAN parties than a standard desktop PC, and stylish designs with comparatively low power requirements make them a natural choice for home theater PCs. The ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini is designed to maximize the potential offered by mini ITX motherboards by delivering high performance graphics. It uses an exclusive DirectCU thermal design that combines a heat-spreading vapor chamber and the CoolTech Fan, which provides wide-angle airflow and venting to cool critical graphics card components.

ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini Smiles for the Camera

We got our first glimpse of ASUS' mini ITX-friendly GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini a fortnight ago, when it was pictured installed. The older pictures didn't really provide us with a vanity of the card, until now. Pictured below, is the first press-shot of the 17 cm-long high-end graphics card. The picture reveals a swanky cooler shroud with gloss/matte accents, covering the main heatsink.

The main heatsink appears to be a combination of an aluminum base plate covering the memory chip and VRM, a copper vapor-chamber plate over the GPU, and a radially-projecting aluminum fin array. The contraption is ventilated by a fan unlike anything we've ever seen. Its impeller appears to be a hybrid between conventional top-flow fan, and lateral-flow blower. While ASUS won't tinker with the 6.00 GHz memory clock speed, the core is said to be clocked about 26 MHz higher than reference. Display outputs check out as dual DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort. The company is expected to launch this card some time in April.

ASUS Readies Size-Optimized GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini for Mini-ITX Builds

ASUS is working on the GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini, a high-end graphics card that's size-optimized for mini-ITX gaming PC builds. NVIDIA's reference-design PCB for the GTX 670 already established that compact (<20 cm long) PCBs are very much possible for the chip. ASUS designed its own short (17 cm long) PCB with a 5-phase VRM, which draws power from a single 8-pin PCIe power connector, instead of two 6-pin. This allows you to make do with compact PSUs that only feature one PCIe connector, and avoid wasting Molex cables on the second 6-pin.

What's more interesting about the GTX 670 DirectCU Mini is its cooler, which appears to use a combination of a thick metal plate that draws heat from VRM and memory on the obverse side; and a round aluminum fin-stack, which could be cooled by a single ~80 mm fan. ASUS did not release pricing or availability information, and is still gauging community interest in such a product.

MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming and GeForce GTX 670 Gaming Teased Some More

We've known since a little earlier this week that MSI has been working on a new product line targeting gamers, which builds on the success of its Gaming Series notebooks; that the company has been working on a variant of the Z77A-GD65 motherboard based on the series; and that the series could also include graphics cards and gaming-grade all-in-one desktops. MSI revealed a few more byte ahead of its big CeBIT unveiling.

To begin with, our suspicious voiced last week are true, the company's first Gaming Series motherboard is in fact a variant of the Z77A-GD65, with a few changes: an overhauled VRM and chipset heatsink design inspired by the dragon-head logo; a black+red color scheme, Bigfoot Killer E2200 low-latency network controller, and possibly Creative Sound Blaster Cinema audio. Moving on, we're hearing that the first graphics card in the Gaming Series will be based on GeForce GTX 670. It could be positioned above the company's fastest GTX 670, the Power Edition/OC. In addition to a slightly new cooling solution, the card could feature an improved VRM.

Eurocom Offers New High Performance MXM 3.0b VGA Options

Upgrading notebooks can be easy when dealing with the right hardware, which are designed from the beginning to be VGA upgradeable. The upgrade process is rather straight forward and consists of removing the existing heat sink and thermal solution, removing the graphics card and then installing the new card while adjusting the thermal pads and re-applying thermal paste to the GPU die. After the hardware is installed users then need to download the requisite driver software and they are ready to go. Occasionally the heatsink needs to be modified or a new heatsink is needed.

The simple fact is, many notebooks are just as easy to upgrade as their desktop counterparts. Eurocom notebooks, most notably are extremely easy to upgrade nearly any component and its flaunted in online instructional videos and any corporate communications.

GIGABYTE Outs Corrective BIOS Update for GeForce GTX 670 WindForce 3X OC

Apparently, GIGABYTE's GeForce GTX 670 WindForce 3X OC graphics card (model: GV-N670OC-2GD) is riddled with stability issues that can only be corrected with a graphics card BIOS update. The stability issues apparently relate to the way the GPU is addressing overclocked Hynix GDDR5 memory chips. The company released a pair of BIOS files, version F4 based on NVIDIA source BIOS 80.04.31.00.58 and version F12 based on NVIDIA source BIOS 80.04.31.00.09. The two were posted recently, but are date-stamped 13-Jul-2012. The two don't change the clock speeds the card ships with: 980 MHz core, 1058 MHz GPU Boost, and 6.00 GHz memory. Graphics card BIOS updating is a trickier process than motherboard BIOS updates, and you need to be really sure what you're doing. Find the BIOS files, and related documentation in the link below.

ELSA Announces GeForce GTX 670 SAC Graphics Card

NVIDIA AIC partner known more for its Quadro professional graphics cards, launched the GeForce GTX 670 SAC (silent air-cooling) graphics card (model: GD670-2GERX2). The card combines a reference clock-speed GeForce GTX 670 graphics processor with a custom-design cooler that comes with a tool-free removable shroud that makes it easier to clean the heatsink beneath. The card appears to be originally manufactured by Inno3D.

As mentioned earlier, the ELSA GTX 670 SAC ships with reference clock speeds of 915 MHz core, 980 MHz GPU Boost, and 6.00 GHz (GDDR5-effective) memory. The cooler design consists of a dense aluminum fin array, to which heat is conducted by a number of copper heat pipes, which is then ventilated by a pair of 75 mm fans, which offer 12 dBA lower noise, and up to 12°C lower temperatures than NVIDIA reference design cooler. The PCB appears to be essentially the same as NVIDIA reference design PCB, except its blue color. It is slated for 11th August.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 WindForce 2X Graphics Card Pictured

Here are some of the first pictures of Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 WindForce 2X graphics card, which was released towards the end of July, without much fuss. The pictures reveal what is a combination of a non-reference design compact PCB design by Gigabyte, making use of its Ultra Durable VGA component selection (2 oz copper PCB, Japanese solid-state capacitors, binned memory chips, ferrite core chokes, low RDS (on) MOSFETs), and its WindForce 2X cooler. The PCB uses a 4+2 phase VRM to power the GK104 GPU. It draws power from two 6-pin PCIe power connectors.

The card ships in two variants, one that sticks to NVIDIA-reference clock speeds, and an OC variant (941 MHz core, 1019 MHz GPU Boost, 6.00 GHz memory). The cooler uses a compound heatsink. Its design consists of a main central aluminum heatsink which draws heat from the GPU, while two satellite aluminum fin heatsinks draw heat from the GPU through two 8 mm-thick copper heat pipes. The heatsink is ventilated by a pair of 100 mm fans, which spin at low speeds and claim low noise levels. Gigabyte's WindForce 2X graphics card is expected to cost less than its flagship WindForce 3X. Find a review at the source.

Colorful Shark Bionic Cooler Detailed

Colorful released pictures of its new Shark Bionic graphics card cooling solution, which will feature on the company's upcoming GeForce GTX 670 iGame Ares X graphics card. The designers seem to have opted for a more conventional-looking dual-slot cooling solution (judging by its standards, at least). The Shark Bionic cooler uses a compound heatsink design. At a nickel-plated copper GPU base, nine 8 mm-thick heat pipes of the same material make indirect contact with the GPU. The heat pipes then transport heat to three aluminum fin stacks, one directly over the GPU base, one over the VRM area, and a smaller one along the top of the card. The three are ventilated by two 80 mm fans. The design of the cooler shroud and fan blades are inspired by the shark, which work to guide the most amount of air with the least turbulence (resulting in less noise).

AMD Readies Radeon HD 7950 GHz Edition

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 670 presents a big problem to AMD's Radeon HD 7900 series lineup. It clearly outperforms Radeon HD 7950, outperforms Radeon HD 7970 in most cases, and maintains a healthy cost-performance lead over Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition, even if it lags behind in performance. To combat this, AMD is reportedly working on a new SKU, called Radeon HD 7950 GHz Edition.

The "new" Radeon HD 7950 GHz Edition will be priced competitively to the GeForce GTX 670 (around $350-400), will retain the core configuration of the original HD 7950, with 1,792 Graphics CoreNext stream processors, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface holding 3 GB of memory; but will feature higher clock speeds, with a core clock speed ≥1.00 GHz, and could feature AMD PowerTune with Boost feature. It is also reported that a majority of HD 7950 GHz Edition graphics cards launched to the market (later this quarter), will be cost-effective non-reference designs by AMD's add-in board (AIB) partners.

ZOTAC Gives GeForce GTX 670 Extreme Edition Treatment

ZOTAC seems to have a 2-pronged approach to the GeForce GTX 670, depending on the region it's being sold in. While it took advantage of the compact reference PCB by NVIDIA to come up with the space-saving GTX 670 TwinCooler (ZTGTX670-2GD5TCR001), it did the exact with the GTX 670 Extreme Edition. The card is based on the same exact design as the GTX 680 Extreme Edition, down to its lavish voltage regulation circuitry, with just the GTX 670 ASIC taking the place of the GTX 680.

The card ships with out of the box clock speeds of 1111 MHz (GPU base), 1202 MHz (GPU Boost), and 1652 MHz (memory actual), or 6.60 GHz (memory effective). It draws power from 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power connectors, and conditions power using a 13-phase VRM that consists of noise-free chokes and PowIRstage DrMOS chips by International Rectifier. Power is further conditioned by a trio of multi-phase FPCAPs, and tantalum capacitors. Like the GTX 680 Extreme Edition, the card features the entire overclocker-friendly feature-set, including OC+ Module, dual-BIOS with LN2-friendly BIOS, voltage measurement points, temperature and phase loading LEDs.
