MSI and HIS Radeon HD 7970 Pictured, 3-way CrossFireX Tested

Until now, any site that has reviewed the Radeon HD 7970 has done so, using the sample AMD provided. There are very few CrossFire reviews out there, because it's simply too hard to get more than one AMD sample. 3-way and 4-way CrossFire reviews could be even rare, if such reviews even exist to begin with. This will change on the 9th of January, when AMD's add-in board partners are officially allowed to launch their Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards, when retailers can start selling these cards, and for reviewers to end up with enough cards to do CrossFire reviews.

Apparently British retailer Overclockers.uk got its stock of Radeon HD 7970 from at least two manufacturers, MSI and HIS. The site proudly showed off stacks of HIS and MSI Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards (first picture below). We certainly hope those are not all the cards it has in its inventory. OCUK did get a chance to pull three cards out of those boxes, and set up a 3-way CrossFireX setup using an Intel Core i7 "Sandy Bridge-E" system. At least one of those three cards is an MSI card, which isn't much different from the reference card than the MSI badge on the fan. Since the system is PCI-Express Gen 3.0 compliant, we can expect there to be close to no interface bottlenecks. And the guy who set that system up for a few snaps did what every enthusiast would do - run some benchmarks.

Zalman to Also Sell NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Cards

Earlier this month, we learned that Korean PC cooling solutions expert Zalman was entering the graphics card market. At the time we could only see AMD Radeon graphics cards, those too, re-branded HIS Radeon graphics cards. We're now seeing the first true Zalman graphics cards, that implement Zalman's generations of expertise with VGA cooling. Pictured below are Zalman's HD 6700, HD 6800; and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti graphics card designs that implement Zalman-made VGA coolers. This also confirms that Zalman will be a neutral board partner, selling both AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce. Zalman will show off its graphics cards at the upcoming CES event.

HIS Unveils the Radeon HD 6930 IceQ X Graphics Card

Rumored but still not officially launched by AMD, the Cayman-powered Radeon HD 6930 has now been outed by Hong Kong-based add-in board maker HIS (Hightech Information System). Known as the Radeon HD 6930 IceQ X, HIS' card comes equipped with a dual-slot IceQ X cooler (boasting a 92mm fan and four heatpipes), and features a blue PCB, a GPU clock of 750 MHz (the, a 256-bit memory interface, 1 GB of GDDR5 memory set to 4800 MHz, CrossFireX and Eyefinity support, plus dual-DVI, HDMI and dual mini DisplayPort outputs.

According to previous reports, the Radeon HD 6930 packs 1280 Stream Processors and will sell for under $200. No word yet on availability so it's not certain where HIS will ship this card.

Claiming to help owners of 'legacy systems', Hong Kong-based add-in board maker Hightech Information System (HIS) has constructed a Radeon HD 6450 card which is equipped with 2 GB of DDR3 memory and makes use of a PCIe x1 interface.

Suited for compact systems, HIS' new card features a low-profile design, a blue PCB, a passive cooler, 160 Stream Processors, a 64-bit memory interface, GPU and memory clocks of 625 MHz and 1000 MHz, respectively, and three display outputs - D-Sub, dual-link DVI and DisplayPort. No word on pricing.

HIS Unveils New Low-Profile Radeon HD 6670 Graphics Card

The HIS 6670 Fan is another excellent choice within HIS' low profile GPU range for home entrainment enthusiasts looking to build their personal bespoke Home Theater or Media Center PC.

HIS Intros Radeon HD 6670 iSilence4 Graphics Card

HIS released its latest mainstream graphics card, the HIS HD 6670 iSilence4. As the name suggests, this is a silent (fanless) graphics card based on the Radeon HD 6670 graphics processor. The card's design is based around Zalman's VNF100 GPU heatsink that provides passive cooling to the GPU, the DDR3 memory and simple FET configuration VRM fend for themselves. VNF100 features a variable fin profile design, that works to improve heat dissipation efficiency.

On the obverse side of the PCB, there is just the base of the heatsink, from here, heat is conveyed to the main portion of the heatsink that's over the reverse side of the PCB, using three heat pipes. The Radeon HD 6670 GPU is built on the 40 nm process, is DirectX 11 compliant, packs 480 stream processors, and features a 128-bit wide memory interface. On this card, 1 GB of AMD-branded DDR3 memory is used. The GPU is clocked at 800 MHz, and the memory at 1600 MHz DDR (25.6 GB/s bandwidth). Display outputs include one each of DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. The card relies entirely on the PCI-Express slot for power. HIS did not give out pricing details.

HIS Intros HD 6970 IceQ Eyefinity RTS Graphics Card

HIS unveiled a new Radeon HD 6970 graphics card that makes use of its IceQ cooler design, which features what the company calls Eyefinity RTS (ready to see). Simply put, this card lets you set up 3-display Eyefinity without needing to connect any of the displays to the mini-DisplayPort connectors. The third display can be connected to the HDMI 1.4 port, instead.

The feature weeds out the need for hard-to-find mini-DP active dongles. An increasing number of full HD monitors support the HDMI interface, they naturally support DVI, and hence this card makes setting up a 3-display Eyefinity a lot easier, in essence, "ready" out of the box. That aside, the card sticks to AMD reference clock speeds of 880 MHz core and 5.50 GHz memory, and features 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. Pricing and availability information is not known.

HIS Intros HD 6870 IceQ 1 GB Graphics Card

HIS today released its latest performance segment graphics card, the HD 6870 IceQ 1GB. This card makes use of the large IceQ cooler found on Radeon HD 6970-based IceQ graphics cards. Its cooler makes use of a large heatsink to which heat is fed by four exposed-copper heat pipes, and ventilation is care of what HIS calls "Black Hole Impeller", a blower that draws in air from both sides of the card (obverse, reverse), channels it though the heatsink, and out of the case. This cooler, HIS claims, can keep temperatures down by as much as 24°C, and noise levels down by as much as 10 dB, compared to the AMD reference cooler.

Under the hood is an AMD Radeon HD 6870 GPU, which follows reference clock speeds of 900 MHz core, and 1050 MHz (4200 MHz effective) memory. It is backed by 1 GB of GDDR5 memory over a 256-bit wide memory interface. Perhaps the idea here is to let users take advantage of the cooler and overclock the card themselves. The HD 6870 packs 1120 VLIW5 stream processors, and is DirectX 11 compliant. The card draws power from two 6-pin PCIe power connectors. Display outputs include two DVI, one HDMI 1.4, and two mini-DisplayPort 1.2 connectors. There is a single CrossFire connector, that allows you to pair with any other HD 6800 series graphics card. Expect the HIS HD 6870 IceQ to charge a small premium over the reference base model graphics card.

HIS Intros 2 GB Radeon HD 6570 Graphics Card

HIS prided itself is being the world's first with a Radeon HD 6570 graphics card with 2 GB of memory. The GPU addresses the 2 GB of memory over a 128-bit DDR3 memory interface, clocked at 1000 MHz, doling out 32 GB/s of bandwidth. The HD 6570 GPU features 480 stream processors, and is DirectX 11 compliant. On this card, it is clocked at 650 MHz (core), with 1000 MHz (memory). The new graphics card uses a half-height PCB and a single-slot passive heatsink, low-profile expansion brackets come bundled. Display outputs include DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI 1.4a. The new card is priced at about $105.
