Wish you could run one of those awesome Unreal Engine 4 tech demos on your own hardware instead of watching its lossy, pixellated video-grabs on YouTube? Well, now you can. Epic's "Elemental" tech demo for Unreal Engine 4 cropped up on the web, and we wasted no time in re-hosting it for you. The demo doesn't appear to be a public release, but something developers put together for demos to be run by Epic and its partners, only. To begin with, it doesn't come with an installer. You have to extract its files into a folder, and manually edit its settings INI file to specify resolution, window behaviour, and other settings. You then have to install VC++ 2013 runtime if you don't already have it (the redistributables are included in the archive), and then run the demo from the relevant batch file. Unreal included both 32-bit and 64-bit executables. When you're done drooling rainbows at the demo, only an Alt+F4 closes the thing down (there's no in-demo UI). There's no internal benchmark, and you're left to use third-party frame-rate loggers. These little issues aside, the demo sure makes Unreal Engine 4 look promising. Epic Games' Fortnite will be the company's first game to take advantage of Unreal Engine 4. Debuted at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, the cartoony action title is being described as "a co-op sandbox survival game," with building at the core of the game. "Everything you find allows you to build and improve your structure," producer Tanya Jessen told an audience at a Comic-Con panel. Given that no current console can run Unreal Engine 4, the game will be exclusive to PC. According to The Verge, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski told the audience: "This is a PC designed game, shipping exclusively on the PC."

Fortnite will be available in 2013.

US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other US government agencies, licensed the Unreal Engine from Epic. Unreal is one of the most popular cross-platform game engines in the industry, and United States, through various agencies will use the engines in "serious games", games designed to simulate situations such as crime scenes, encounters, casualty treatment, for the agents to learn to deal with. While the full financial details of these deals were not disclosed, the deal with FBI Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) earned Epic around US $10 million.

Epic Games, Inc. announces its participation in the Game Developers Conference (GDC) to be held March 5-9, 2012 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Epic will host press sessions and meet with developers and partners of its award-winning Unreal Engine technology in Business Suite 800, West Hall, at GDC 2012. In addition, Epic Games Design Director Cliff Bleszinski is set to host the Game Developer Choice Awards, and a dozen senior members of Epic's staff are scheduled to speak at the conference.

The draconian internet censorship bill, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) being lobbied for by wealthy big media corporations (mostly fronted by the RIAA/MPAA, News Corporation and the like) and currently being debated in Congress is still losing support wherever one turns. A week ago, we reported that GoDaddy initially supported it, but soon changed its mind as it immediately began to haemorrhage customers. Now, it turns out that many video games companies are also coming out against it and with no pressure against them required.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is the game industry's trade association and stands firmly behind the much-despised bill, which means that the gaming industry as a whole is deemed to support SOPA. However, while some members openly support it, others just won't say so publically and some of its members actively do not support it, having made official statements to this effect. A six-page long article on Unreal Tournament 3 in the latest issue of OXM reveals some interesting facts about the Xbox 360 version of the game. Developers and the magazine editors said that it is looking better than Gears of War in its current state. The reason for this being that Epic Games improved the Unreal Engine 3 for Xbox 360 since they released Gears of War six months ago.

The Xbox 360 version of the game will support four-player co-op and two-player split-screen in the single-player campaign, which will let you take different paths depending on the decisions you take. Unreal Tournament 3 will feature 18 vehicles and 5 types of turrets. Epic also promises "zero-time to spectacle" thanks to the hoverboard (two of them being linked to a Manta in the picture below).

According to IGN a release date for September 3rd 2007 has been set, 22 days prior to the Halo 3.

Unreal Tournament 3, previously called Unreal Tournament 2007, is actually the fourth game in the franchise but 2003/2004 is considered by developer Epic as one game due to them being near identical.

Epic, who also made the Xbox 360 title "Gears of War" is also releasing the game on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in addition to the traditional PC version.

Epic Games has finally launched a new official website for the highly anticipated Unreal Tournament 3. The website has a few in-game screen shots, as well as a trailer in HD and you can subscribe to get your hands on the latest news about the game.

Unreal Tournament 3 for XBOX360 is due to be released in September and the Playstation 3 version is scheduled for the end of year. There is no any fixed timeline for a PC version but it probably won't see the light of the day in 2007.

In the 1990's, virtual reality was a thing of sci-fi dreams, and involved gigantic helmets that would immerse a subject in the virtual reality world. Now, however, virtual reality is taking a very nice new direction. It is being used to help rehabilitation patients relearn how to cope with everyday environments. Unreal Engine (the exact version is unknown), by emulating a grocery store while a patient walks on a treadmill, can help people deal with vertigo. This is just one example of how the Unreal Engine, among other game engines, is working for the betterment of mankind.
