PQI Rolls Out Air Bank Portable NAS and AP

PQI's newest creation combines the functionality of a USB portable hard drive with a battery-powered NAS server supporting both 802.11n WLAN and Ethernet; and an AP (access point), that relays your wired Internet connection to multiple WiFi-enabled devices. The Air Bank 6W31 line of devices ship in black and white body panel color options, and storage capacities of 500 GB and 1 TB. Synology Launches DiskStation Manager (DSM) 4.2

Synology today released the official version of DiskStation Manager (DSM) 4.2. HP Pocket Playlist WiFi Drive Launched

HP rolled out the Pocket Playlist, a wireless portable storage device. Although its exact capacity is a little fuzzy, the company mentions it can hold up to 16 full-length movies, 7,600 songs, or over 10,000 photos. By our calculations, that should work out to 32 GB. The Pocket Playlist may not be the first wireless storage device, but what gives it a worthy selling-point is its PlayLater feature, which lets the device cling on to your Netflix and Hulu subscriptions, store full-length legal copies of movies from those services, which you can later stream down to your devices. Available from mid-February, it is expected to be priced at US $130.

Cisco Preparing to Sell Linksys Brand

Cisco Systems is preparing to sell its consumer networking solutions brand Linksys. The networking major hired the services of Barclays Plc to look for prospective buyers of the division. According to industry analysts, Linksys might fetch much less than the $500 million Cisco paid to acquire it, back in 2003, because its target market is saturated. Linksys sells consumer networking products such as low port-count switches, WiFi routers, and dongles. Other sources believe Linksys could attract buyers from TV set makers looking to add a recognized brand to their ranks.

I-O Data Intros WiFi-enabled Card Reader

I-O Data Japan introduced a thoughtful new device for road-warriors, called NUBES, an SDHC/SDXC card reader that is completely wireless. The device is packs a 1,350 mAh battery that can keep it going for 4 hours on full charge. Supporting 802.11 b/g/n (up to 150 Mbps), the card reader has just enough bandwidth to stream 720p HD video. The reader works as a short-range WLAN router, supporting all modern router security features, including WPA-PSK (TKIP / AES), WPA2-PSK (AES). It supports up to three simultaneous connections. Along with the reader, I-O Data released an iOS app that allows you to manage files, and stream media from an inserted SD card. Measuring 83.5 x 12.3 x 5.8 mm (WxDxH), the reader weighs about 57 g. It is priced at 4,180¥ (US $50).

JBL SoundFly Air Wireless Speaker Up for Pre-Order

Harman International Industries has now started taking pre-orders for its newest JBL-branded audio hardware, the SoundFly Air wireless speaker. This device has a total power output of 20 W, it plugs directly into a wall outlet, and it uses WiFi to wirelessly connect to PCs, Macs, iPhones and iPads (Apple AirPlay is supported).

The SoundFly Air measures 190 (D) x 92 (H) mm, it has a frequency response of 60Hz - 20kHz, and it costs $199. To sweeten the deal JBL is also offering a free companion app that allows users to 'browse music with cover art, adjust volume and tone, and fully customize the digital signal processing (DSP) to get the best sound'.

Gigabyte S1082 Windows 8 Tablet PC Unveiled

Gigabyte unveiled the S1082, a 10.1-inch tablet PC powered by Windows 8 (and optionally, Windows 8 Pro). Based on the x86 platform, the tablet is driven by Intel Celeron 847 dual-core processor clocked at 1.10 GHz, with up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory, and Intel HD 2000 graphics. Its 10.1-inch multi touchscreen packs 1366 x 768 pixels native resolution. Storage options include 320/500 GB HDD; or 64/128/256 GB SSD. Connectivity includes WiFi b/g/n, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0, and 3.5G WWAN; with HDMI and D-Sub display outputs; two USB 2.0 ports, 5-in-1 card reader, and 1.3 megapixel web-cam. Measuring 270(W) x 173(D) x 14.94(H) mm, it weighs 790~850 g (SSD/HDD). Its dedicated docking station includes additional battery and DVD SuperMulti drive. Expect this one to go for anywhere between $599 to $799.

German company Wortmann has just added a new, business-oriented laptop to its portfolio, a 15.6-inch model known as TERRA MOBILE 1541 PRO.
